Guest man
Are there certain teachings or commandments in the bible that we can push aside and ignore as if they were not there? Are half truths acceptable? When is it ok to just sit back and do nothing when we know that what's being put forth is not entirely true?

I would say one should never ignore anything in the scriptures. What we need to do is seek to understand how each passage applies to us and what God is trying to say to us

No Are half truths acceptable? No When is it ok to just sit back and do nothing when we know that what's being put forth is not entirely true? It's easy for one to sit back and throw up there hands in the day that we are living in but even in our mixed up church world today we as believers have to give heed to the scriptures below: Ephesians 6:14-17--"Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace: Above all, taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.............. If one knows something to be false it is their responsibility to not accept it as truth as the word says also, "that if a man have faith let him have it to himself." Not everything I hear is 100% truth but I don't have to agree with everyone to get along with others. There also comes times in our lives where seperation is inevitable as light cannot dwell with darkness. You should read Ephesians 5 OC

Your three questions are exactly what others want me to do, stating that some scriptures do not pertain to today. I questioned the church about 1 Timothy 2,3 & 4 and Titus 1, for they were allowing women to have authority over men, and I was hammered in church for even thinking that. They told me that these scriptures do not pertain to today. When did God change? How much more of His word is not for today? Where does one draw the line and say ENOUGH? I don't understand your question. When the Word of God (which is truth ) is woven together with lies.....when is it ok to not say anything about it? I would hope never, but we all, at one time or another, may find it best to walk away in peace. It all depends how the issue was brought up and for what purpose. We are NEVER to ignore the Scriptures. However, as Eric stated we are to seek the L-rd and how He wants us to APPLY the Scriptures to our lives. Some people interpret them one way and act accordingly, and others interpret other ways and act accordingly. The problem comes in when someone interprets Scripture and tries to make it binding on everyone else. Not all Scripture applies to all.
