Do you have to give money to the church or can you give it to people who really need it. Is that considered tithing?

Tithing in the New Testament age of grace is according to what the Lord has placed upon your heart (2 Cor. 9:7), not upon a law quantifying a certain amount or percentage.

In the New Testament church gifts were given to the church for the benefit of all the saints mutually, for the propagation of the gospel, etc. However, a certain portion was set aside to take care of the saints in need (1 Cor. 16:1-2; Acts 11:29-30; 24:17; Rom. 15:26). In our church locality we give freely to the church, but also can designate a certain amount for the saints who have a specific need. This is always done in secret, however.

The principle in Malachi is to not rob God of the tithe and to bring it to the 'storehouse'. The local church and its ministries is where the tithe belongs.

Offerings can be given to other ministries above the tithe (i.e. do not tithe to a TV ministry).

Alms are another Scriptural category of giving. Giving to the poor or those in need is an alm above the tithe.

Tithing should not be legalistic. We are to give systematically and proportionately as God blesses us (2 Cor.). It is not just giving our time, but also the fruit of our labors (income). 10% is an OT guideline that was not rescinded in the NT.

It is an act of worship and obedience as we submit to His Lordship.

I commend you for tithing. I have done so for 20 years whether I could 'afford' it or not. The majority of people are too selfish to give more than a 'tip'.

Thank you God-man and godrulz for your replies. I have a question godrulz, why shouldn't I tithe to a TV Ministry? I love going to church, but thats just Sundays. It's not enough. I need to hear the good news everyday. It keeps me going. TBN has been there for me twenty-four hours a day everyday. Jesus said that every human on this planet will oneday hear about him and then he's coming back. TBN is sharing with the world that Jesus is Lord and Savior. How can I not give just a small portion back to them what they've given me? How can I not help them keep spreading the good news?

God Bless,

Jacqueline

In the Bible, God commands that you tithe 10 percent of your income. Imagine how easy your "tax burden" would be if this world was governed by Theocracy instead of human kings that were demanded by humans. I don't have a problem tithing at all. I do have a problem the way the money is being taken and turned into million and billion dollar Christian empires. That just makes ALL Christians look like hypocrites.

Jacqueline,

You may want to do a search here on TBN. There are a lot of problems with that ministry as a whole. Some of the preachers they feature (rhyme not intended) are doctrinally fine, but many of them are not. A little leaven...

I don't want to stumble you here by saying too much. If you have some specific questions or concerns I would be glad to help via Private Message.

Above all, the best way to continue to grow in the Lord is to seek out believers who can fellowship with you on a regular basis. Listening to a teaching on the radio or watching it on T.V. will only take you so far. You need to be built up with other believers through fellowship, prayer, and study in the Word. The Body of Christ is built up through the functioning of each of the members, not through the functioning of one man on a pulpit.

Jacqueline,

I often tithe my opinion. As well my time. Sometimes my minivan to pick up youths. Sometimes my very will.

Like Lord I desire to go to that gas station. Yet He says go to this one. Across the street. But Lord that one is more expensive? Yes but you will see.

So then as I pump I meet someone whom the Lord really wanted me to meet. To speak of His very Glory. For I am obedient! That is what a good son does. He does everything His Father wills. It cost me and extra 3 cents a gallon. So I tithe it for His Kingdom. :P

Well now it is about obedience isn't it?

You see there is an aisle of the Lords favor and aisle of His will. Blessings flow from that place. :il: It is done because He asks and we are obedient to His Will. We still have free will even being saved. I can choose not to go to that particular gas station. Then I will miss the miracle that is His Glory!

Much Love and Peace,

Dave

Grace to you,

Just so I'm not misunderstood. :P

It all belongs to God anyway.

Tithing is an act of obedience. Of Worship not begrudgingly. Of Love to His house preferably the local one you attend. Simply because we don't go to Church to feel good about ourselves. We go because this is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad. :il: Let us give thanks to our Father. To our most precoius Lord.

Spiritual Sacrifices pleasant in His sight. A pleasant odour. What's more pleasant to a Father? Than an obedient Son?

Much Love and Peace,

Dave

We went to see a pastor from South Africa speak about children with HIV-Aids. This

wonderful man and his wife have taken children into their home to love and care for them. Their church is at present saving to build a home in which "parents" will

live and care for as many of these orphan as possible. This is what our money went towards last night - very needy children.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
