Mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos, a study by an award-winning cancer expert has concluded. He says people should avoid using them wherever possible and that governments and the mobile phone industry must take "immediate steps" to reduce exposure to their radiation.

The study, by Dr Vini Khurana, is the most devastating indictment yet published of the health risks.

1.Mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos, a study by an award-winning cancer expert has concluded. 2. The Mobile Operators Association dismissed Khurana's study as "a selective discussion of scientific literature by one individual". It believes he "does not present a balanced analysis" of the published science, and "reaches opposite conclusions to the WHO and more than 30 other independent expert scientific reviews".

i thought the cancer from cell phones thing had been debunked a long time ago. i seriously don't think there is any merit to that theory. however, i DO believe cell phones are going to be responsible for a much larger number of deaths than smoking, because of the distraction they cause while driving. especially phones that have text messaging!

I've been hearing more and more about the danger. It's the radiation or something. It never hurts to be safe. The industry should do something to reduce it.

I am skeptical about the link between cell phones and brain tumors. The problem with the argument being made is that there are other factors to consider that could account for an increase in tumors. One possibility is the food we eat. It is being treated with pesticides and animals are being injected with hormones and anti-biotics. Then there is the large number of people using products with nutri-sweet, which has been shown to be extremely hazerdous to some. Over time, I might be proven to be wrong, but for now, I am skeptical about the link, and like LadyC, I heard the link was shown to be untrue.

Not to mention what they are doing to our food with GM.

I'm sorry, Kat, but the cell phone-brain-cancer-radiation-link is bull. My dad tells me when color TV first came out, there was a hew and cry about radiation from that; his mother made him sit 10 feet away from the thing. Same thing with mircrowaves (don't open that door until the fan stops!)...etc., etc., etc. Some Luddites feel the need to worry--and make everybody else worry--about every thing.

This whole "cell phones microwave your brain" thing has been debunked already, I think.

Big difference between cell phones and the other two (microwaves and tvs) is that you hold a cell phone right up to your head.

The link is certainly plausible, and I think more research should be done on the subject.
