Big words (i.e...words comprising more than seven (7) letters), should be banned from these boards.

I'm off now to join the Amish community...............things are so much simpler there

I see "Elect those who believe" as trusting in the blood of Jesus.

I'm just curious, what meaning to the word "Elect" is left when it is used in that sentence?

It can't possibly retain its original fundamental meaning "to choose", because there is no choice left in the matter, once the other party makes the "choice", there is allegedly nothing else God can do for He is obligated to to take in each and every one of those who "chose" correctly.

Say what???

:) Historic Amish Anabaptist theology has much in common with both Calvinism and Arminianism. It's no mistake the Amish have similar Swiss roots to Calvinism, and share the same work ethic and emphasis on doctrines of grace. Predestination and OSAS is frowned upon in favour of an elevation of works of piety and holy living, but the Calvinistic doctrines of grace favour piety as well.

One might familialize them as either 3-point Calvinists or 3-point Arminians, much as some do with some forms of either Amyraldism or semi-Pelgianism. Amish are very close on these issues to most modern Baptists, Christian, and Community churches. The Amish tend to simply call it all holy living and prefer not to fight about it, but they do indeed have soteriological views they mostly discuss while milking their cows. Rumour has it they often stir in a spoonful of sugar... unless it's buttermilk.

:noidea:

I don't know about the Amish, but I know the Anabaptists were hated by both Calvinists and Lutherans. I can't speak to their theology in relation to Calvinism, but I do know that both Calvin and Luther saw Anabaptists as too radical, and disagreed with the Anabaptist's insistence on believer baptism.

Also, many people don't know this, but Arminius was actually a Dutch Calvinist, but he got in trouble when he interpreted Calvin in a way different from what other Calvinists interpreted him.

Be Blessed Beloved Of The KING

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them. Numbers 6:24-27
