Didn't you know our elected officials know what's best for all of us? The average American is incapable of doing much on their own any more; then need to be told what to do, what to eat. Those who are uncooperative, need to ante up, or get with the program... It's really only gentle persuasion, after all. It worked for the Third Reich. Imagine what a wonderful country it would be if we all ate the same things, looked the same, went to bed at the same time, didn't rock any boats, never littered, never took another risk of any kind... Yeah, boy, what an exciting place America would be. Fat tax today. Too-much-TV tax tomorrow. Third Child tax the day after that.

We aren't really a democracy we're socialist. I'm confused though because I live in Canada and we get charged tax on fast food and junk food; just not on other food. It sure doesn't stop people from going to Mcdees or the like.
Guest
Why don't you know? We aren't really a democracy we're socialist. I'm confused though because I live in Canada and we get charged tax on fast food and junk food; just not on other food. It sure doesn't stop people from going to Mcdees or the like. You normally only pay a sales tax on fast food in the US. (That's been my experience at any rate.) A "sin tax" hasn't stopped people from smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol, and it won't stop anyone from going to McDonald's either. It's just another attempt for big government to tax more so they can spend more. God forbid someone should stand up and say the gov't should be more financially responsible! Tax revenues are falling because the economy is bad? Let the government do with less, just like the citizens have to.
