If they wore thin sandals ( we call them flip flops here but I know they are called by different names all over the world ) would that also be inapropriate The only difference between them and bare feet is that the soles of your feet are protected. As you say, people are required to maintain a certain dress code in everyday life. But what is wrong with 'kicking back' and just being yourself, or being comfortable, in church? People are generally put under enormous pressure to conform in their day to day existence. As long as they are not showing any disrespect by going around barefoot, or offending anyone's sense of modesty or decorum, I wouldn't, myself, have any problem with it. They are teenagers. Just kids. Life is too short to be taken up by such petty issues, in my opinion. This is not to make light of your concerns. It's just that it is something that I have never thought about, nor would I give it a second glance if I were confronted with such a scenario. I thought Jesus said it was what was on the inside of a person that defiled not the outer. I have known many people who won't go to a church because of the dress code.
