Hey. I read back a few pages but I got tired. I dunno if there has been a thread started on demonic opression. I am not talking about posession or any of that. And I don't want to get into the whole controversial thing about what are actually spirits and what are not.

So, what kind of spirits are there? I need verses. I can talk about it all day, but if there are no verses then it doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

I am not sure, but I think there is a spirit of lust, anger, hate. I dunno. Any insight to this???

Also, do they have names? Has any of you heard of "draco" ? I know that it is a constellation and it also means dragon. But in terms of demons, have you ever heard of one called a name like that?

There is many thoughts going on in my brain. I hopefully willn be able to explain a bit more once there have been some answers.

Hey Hippo, I want to recommend a book that talks about different kinds of spirits, such as the spirit of fear, spirit of infirmity, etc..... It is called "Shadow Boxing", by Henry Malone. It is an amazing book. It deals with each different type of demonic spirit. I was consumed by a demon of fear for a while, but I got prayer for it and felt such an amazing peace, and I still have that peace. You should find it and read it.

Hi hippo. I just wanted to say to be sure and not confuse any of the works of the flesh with spirits. Some people call these things spirits when the Bible plainly says they are works of the flesh:

Gal. 5

[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

[21] Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

From Strong's:

1) adultry: adultry

2) fornication: 1) illicit sexual intercourse

1a) adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse

with animals etc.

1b) sexual intercourse with close relatives; Lev. 18

1c) sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman; Mr 10:11,12

3) uncleanness: 1) uncleanness

1a) physical

1b) in a moral sense: the impurity of lustful, luxurious,

profligate living

1b1) of impure motives

4) lasciviousness: 1) unbridled lust, excess, licentiousness, lasciviousness,

wantonness, outrageousness, shamelessness, insolence

5) idolatry: 1) the worship of false gods, idolatry

1a) of the formal sacrificial feats held in honour of false gods

1b) of avarice, as a worship of Mammon

6) : 3) sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it

7) hatred: 1) enmity

8) variance: 1) contention, strife, wrangling

9) emulations: 1) excitement of mind, ardour, fervour of spirit

1a) zeal, ardour in embracing, pursuing, defending anything

1a1) zeal in behalf of, for a person or thing

1a2) the fierceness of indignation, punitive zeal

1b) an envious and contentious rivalry, jealousy

10)wrath: 1) passion, angry, heat, anger forthwith boiling up and soon

subsiding again

11)strife: 1) electioneering or intriguing for office

1a) apparently, in the NT a courting distinction, a desire to put

one's self forward, a partisan and fractious spirit which does

not disdain low arts

1b) partisanship, fractiousness

12)seditions: 1) dissension, division

13)heresies: 1) act of taking, capture: e.g. storming a city

2) choosing, choice

3) that which is chosen

4) a body of men following their own tenets (sect or party)

4a) of the Sadducees

4b) of the Pharisees

4c) of the Christians

5) dissensions arising from diversity of opinions and aims

14)envyings: 1) envy

15)murders: 1) murder, slaughter

16)drunkenness: 1) intoxication

17)revellings: 1) a revel, carousal

1a) a nocturnal and riotous procession of half drunken and

frolicsome fellows who after supper parade through the streets

with torches and music in honour of Bacchus or some other

deity, and sing and play before houses of male and female

friends; hence used generally of feasts and drinking parties

that are protracted till late at night and indulge in revelry

18) and such like: LIKE: 1) like, similar, resembling

1a) like: i.e. resembling

1b) like: i.e. corresponding to a thing

I believe the flesh can be under the stronghold of demons. There are fourteen Root Spirits found in the Bible. They are:

1) spirit of infirmity- Luke 13:11,16

2) spirit of fear- 2 Timothy 1:7

3) spirit of whoredom/idolatry- Hosea 4:12

4) spirit of perverseness- Isaiah 19:14

5) deaf/dumb spirit- Mark 9:25-27

6) lying spirit- 2 Chronicles 18:22

7) spirit of error- 1 John 4:6

8) spirit of divination- Acts 16:16-18

9) spirit of bondage- Romans 8:15

10) spirit of haughtiness- Proverbs 16:18-19

11) spirit of anti-christ- 1 John 4:3

12) spirit of heaviness- Isaiah 61:3

13) spirit of jealousy- Numbers 5:14

14) spirit of stupor/slumber- Romans 11:8

All right! That's good, Called. A list of flesh and spirits both. And, I agree, the flesh can be under the influence of demons, but not possessed - for Christians anyway.

I believe also any sin, is a thought which manifested itself. The Word says to change the spirit of your mind. Thus our thoughts are spirit, now if they are sin spirits, then that is what they are, so some spirits are any an all sins, spirit of hate, spirit of war, spirit of contention, etc., etc., we are not to be in subjection to any evil spirit, we change the spirit through The Spirit of Jesus Christ, obedience to His Spirit. This for different people is done in different ways, like some may need someone to love them in action, some may need prayer, some may need a spirit, and/or more cast out of them, some need to memorize, or quote scriptures, some need to walk in obedience to scriptures, and there are more ways to be obedient to The Messiah.

This is what I don't understand. First, I don't know about our thoughts being "spirit", I need to look up some things on that, and second, 2 of the things you have listed as spirits, are numbers 7 and 8, in the list that the Bible calls works of the flesh. What do you make of that?

Very interesting thread!

Also, do they have names? Has any of you heard of "draco" ? I know that it is a constellation and it also means dragon. But in terms of demons, have you ever heard of one called a name like that?

The only name I recall from scripture off hand is "Legion" in Mark 5 where Jesus asked "what is your name" and he replied, "Legion, because we are many". Draco reminds me of Dracula, lol....hmm, is that a root of Dracula, maybe, anyway, not sure about all that, but Legion is the only name I could think of from scripture.

This....

I found to be helpful, personally! I guess I knew (or had some idea about) the difference between works of the flesh and "spirits", but not really clearly. I think I got them mixed up all the time!

#5 on Called's list there, made me reread the story in Mark about the boy with a deaf and mute spirit. When I was first married, my husband and I went to a new church and whenever I walked in the building I felt an extreme heaviness and I was unable to talk about God! Can you imagine that! In church, I was unable to say anything about God! I could talk to people about things like, "how was your week?" "is your brother feeling better?" "did you hear what so and so said". The only place I felt this way was inside this church building, so I know I wasn't possessed or it would have come out the door with me, but I did feel oppressed by it for several weeks. Finally, one day, I felt it again (I had prayed before I went inside) and I went into a room by myself and prayed out loud and asked God to help me and to take this feeling away. He did! I don't know if that helps anything you were asking, but just an experience I had!

There is a scripture which says, spirit of your mind. Works of the flesh are works of sin, any area which is a sin, will be a work of the flesh, God is over all sin, thus we can defeat our flesh, or sins, or sin nature, in Jesus Christ we can do all things.

Everything we do is spiritual, we do things either in the flesh, or in The Spirit. Either in sins, or in obedience.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
