Maybe as a society we are getting desensitized because of the shows like Buffy and the rest of the supernatural themed tv shows that have aired over the last decade...

Have you ever watched any of those shows?

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time and I didn't let my boys either...it hasn't affect them any for missing out.

So you've never watched a movie or TV show, read a book that had any kind of supernatural theme to it?

When I'm in control - no, not since becoming a Christian.

I have been to the movies where that theme may be in a particular movie although not the focus of it - in those cases, I have no control over it - BUT I will confess, in certain scenes in the movies that DO show it..I close my eyes.

I could take it or leave it.

I just believe we should gaurd our minds. Things may appear innocent enough. I go with my "feelings" - I don't feel comfortable with vampire/witch themes.

How do you believe that book would affect your son?

He's only just turned 12 and he's not Spiritually mature...I don't want him to get hooked on something he can't handle. It's like an opening for satan to get in and wreak havoc (worse case scenario)..I am trying to protect him - is all.

Satan will use any means to get a foothold.

I don't condemn any here on Worthy who watch/read this stuff - all I say is be careful because all that glitters is not gold.

I would not tell anyone who doesn't like that type of books or movies to put aside their feelings and see them anyway. An opinion was asked and I gave mine. But I think that we each know what kind of things bother us in our spirit, and we should avoid them.

These books and the movie don't bother me. I enjoy the fantasy worlds and have no problem leaving them behind when the story is through. Others are bothered by them, they should simply walk away. There are other things that bother me, and I won't be involved with them, even when those around me laugh and say it's silly. Not silly to me, it bothers me, so I won't participate. Easy as that.

Spot on. :)

I do feel protected by the Holy Spirit and maybe I am not "strong" enough to view/read stuff like this anymore...who knows? but I go with what I know.

Ok.

But you do know that when the movie comes out on DVD, somebody he knows is going to rent it.

Satan will use any means to get a foothold.

That includes his friends and everyone he comes in contact with.

I think you're making big deal out of nothing.

But that's just me.

Hi.

i read the book . I loved it. It was really cute. But Im almost 20 what are you looking to know about it?

The movie...

I have spent some time recently with family and 2 of my nieces have been reading a book called Twilight and one has seen the recent movie 3 times...they are quite "into" it - (they are not Christians). Apparently it is THE book/movie at the moment with teenagers and 20 something..

It's about vampires and has a lovestory woven through it. Now one of my boys wants to read it - but I let him know clearly, I would rather he not.

Has anyone here read the book or seen the movie?

Of course I can't control what goes on outside my home - but I can put things in place at home for him.

I didn't make a big deal with Harry Potter and they soon lost interest - I am also not making a big deal with Twilight - I have told him why I don't want him to read the book - of course he questioned me but has since dropped the subject as I have.

Currently Supernatual themes are very in vogue - and Hollywood makes it look appealing and cutting edge...

I knew you thought I was making a big deal of it... :)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
