  1. While there are verses that tell us to study and know the word (e.g. Acts 17:11), it seems to me there are a multitude of verses telling us to eat, drink and meditate on His word. "Your words were found and I did eat them and they became the joy and rejoicing to my heart." Jerimiah 15:16 And in 1 Corinthians 12:13 we're told that we "drink of one Spirit" There is the tree of life which we are to eat and the river of water of life we are told to drink. Then in John 6:64 Jesus makes this bold statement which caused many to turn away: "He that eats Me, even he shall live because of Me." So it seems while there may be scriptures telling us to study and know the word, there are a whole bunch letting us know that the things of Christ, and Christ Himself, is meant to be taken in through eating and drinking. It certainly suggests that there is something much more to scripture than head knowledge. And the bible opens and closes (Genesis 2 and Revelation 22) with the Tree of Life, which we are exhorted to eat of. What do you think is the significance of this idea of eating and drinking the things of God? Is this more than just studying the written word? And if so, how do we know the difference?

  5. Like many here, based upon observation of people providing pictures, I myself come from the generation long before the Internet and mobile applications. So I was studying the Bible for the history of God's people, the truth, even discovering interesting facts like why the Hebrew culture were instructed to eat Kosher [because along with the other Laws it separated them from the rest of humanity much like as a modern day Christian should be separated from the rest of humanity] and so much more. In fact, I was deep into my Biblical studies long before being able to come to forums like this and discussing topics like they do now and have been since the introduction of the Internet and chatrooms. I also have seen because of these discussion participation it has encouraged many to study the Bible for themselves in order to be a part of the conversation. And no matter the reason for people to begin reading and studying the Bible is something I celebrate because we want people to learn as much about God as one possibly can.

  8. I generally agree with the sentiment and information provided in the link. My only disappointment is that the information is not properly or thoroughly referenced. There are too many people just presenting their own side of the debate. The most compelling evidence to support this information is found in the primary documentation. The reason the anti-Israel movement has so effectively enslaved the minds of so many is because of this lack of easily accessible primary evidence. Many people therefore simply choose which side to believe without a proper, fair examination of the evidence. Note: the evidence is out there, and is abundant, and overwhelmingly sides with Israel - but one has to dig for it. The article is well written, but I fear it will change fewer minds than it could have - for lack of proper referencing.

  10. I assumed that light, life, and understanding would come along with the infilling of the Holy Spirit; as it is written "He (the Holy Spirit reveals all truth unto you). But you're right, it does not hurt to ask for it, in the Word also says, "you have not because you ask not"

  12. The study of Biblical Typology can be divided into several subsections, each focusing on different aspects of how Old Testament figures, events, and symbols foreshadow New Testament realities. Here are some key subsections: 1. Typology of People Adam as a Type of Christ (Romans 5:14) – Adam’s disobedience brought sin, while Christ’s obedience brings salvation. Moses as a Type of Christ – A deliverer leading people from bondage. David as a Type of Christ – A king ruling with righteousness. 2. Typology of Events The Exodus as a Type of Salvation – Israel’s deliverance from Egypt parallels believers’ deliverance from sin. The Flood and Baptism (1 Peter 3:20-21) – Noah’s ark as a symbol of salvation through water. The Passover and Christ’s Sacrifice – The blood of the lamb protecting Israel foreshadows Jesus as the Lamb of God. 3. Typology of Objects & Symbols The Tabernacle as a Type of Christ – God’s dwelling among His people. The Bronze Serpent and the Cross (John 3:14) – Healing through faith. Manna as a Type of Christ (John 6:31-35) – Jesus as the Bread of Life. 4. Typology of Covenants The Old Covenant vs. The New Covenant – Law vs. Grace. Circumcision as a Type of Spiritual Renewal (Romans 2:29) – A heart transformed by faith. 5. Typology in Prophecy Jonah as a Type of Christ’s Resurrection (Matthew 12:40) – Three days in the belly of the fish vs. three days in the tomb. Melchizedek as a Type of Christ’s Priesthood (Hebrews 7:1-3) – A priest without genealogy.

  13. I used to pray it; we sing it in songs.... then one day God showed me that I was praying selfishly! I used to pray.... "Lord come quickly or soon" That is a selfish prayer with so many about to miss the rapture, and be destroyed! God never said to pray like that; however He did tell us how to pray in the last days..... "Lord, send workers into the field for they are ripe for the harvest" In other words, pray that people get saved; pray that God sends evangelists to those that are lost!

  14. I like to listen to nature sounds like a gentle waterfall in the background while I pray. It's usually in the evening hours as the day is winding down and I pray for guidance of his will and imagine him walking in a garden with me.

  29. Yea, I have not smoked a whole cigarette in months. A few puffs at a time. I got to wjere I was not miserable in between for quite some time. I still do not carry my cigarettes with me, they stay at home. A little bit of a fudge on that though, I am quite the homebody lol. But, I knew from years ago my issue was, not having anymore cigarettes EVER AGAIN. I got stuck there. So I would give up and say i will start later. Later never came. So thanks for the advice and concern. I do need to really reduce or totally stop. As I had a heart attack in november and two stents put in:-(. But I am doing pretty good. It actually reduced my high blood pressure. so adjusting to lower my meds on that has kind of glued me to the bp cuff.

  32. I'll add Matthew 4:4 for consideration. It's where Jesus was tempted in the wilderness. Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” From that and other verses I see the eating and drinking comparison as an illustration of how important God in all three of His identities is to us. Without food and water we tend to die pretty quickly. Just as we know the eventual outcome of physical starvation and dehydration we also know the outcome of shunning God. Regarding studying I'd say it's definitely more than that. Communion, service, and having an actual relationship fit in. Satan knows the Bible better than any of us, and that knowledge isn't going to save him anymore than it's going to save people who study the Bible for the purpose of trying to poke holes in it. James has quite a lot to say about being active and touches on this topic in James 1:22-25: "For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does."

  33. Psa 2 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

  35. Hi @lrs68 Yes, well........... Decades back already, for young men and boys studding one's earlobes became regarded as a very masculine thing: seeing himself 'as a tough guy now...gotta do the ear piercing like the other tough guys', right? :) It does not always go with being prepared to care for the holes properly. Often girls are better at doing that than men and boys are. Similarly, tattoos need some care. Again, women sometimes prove themselves to be better at it than men (even though it used to be predominantly a man thing).

  36. For me this is one of the most edifying topics in Biblical Theology. The First Humans sinned by eating forbidden fruit, but in eternity the Redeemed of Humanity eat from the Tree of Life and drink Living Water.

  37. Hi @Anne2 My cousin just tried the nicotine lozenges & he is doing very well with them- I believe they are Walgreens brand, msybe give them a try to reduce cravings My Uncle( years ago) started out like you ,cutting back to xxx about per day and he said he felt " stuck" for some time and very miserable in between and waiting for the next cigarette- it might sound funny but he increased the amount of cigarettes to double and would not smoke past HALF!!! It worked, before he knew it he'd light one up,take 2or 3puffs & throw it out..... eventually he walked around with an unlit cigarette all day and never lit up again the rest of his days I mean it's a good idea because smoking 1/2 a cigarette has less exposure to tar because the amount of tar inhaled is proportional ( half the tar is far better) Don't ever beat yourself up over it,just keep at it Anne.... With love in Christ,Kwik

  38. Hi @lrs68 For generations now in some areas it's been a custom for young men. This is not untypical: quora dot com Often young men today have fathers who have had earrings for decades. Today it's clear that, around local churches in some areas there are many serious young men - having undergone earlobe studding as a totally straightforward event in adolescence - who are earnest about studying the Bible. Far from supposedly signifying being anti-church, etc., or rebelling against parents, it's simply what a lot of young men have been accustomed to doing. I guess ink in some ways is in a similar category, maybe(?)

  39. Hi @lrs68 I guess as regards tattoos on young men - and women - in ministry roles, I guess it would depend on what the tattoo design was of, to some extent........(faith-based, or whatever...) Young men getting ear piercings was very widespread decades back; and insofar as I even remember accurately at all some of the young men whose baptisms I attended decades back at conservative evangelical churches would have been wearing earrings. (It was so widespread; it was what so many young men just did.)

  40. I was thinking more along the lines of this...Years (many) ago I had 7 cigarettes left in my pack and said to myself, I want to quit. I won't buy another pack. Was gonna try training my brain (lol)to not respond to a craving, by taking a few puffs after the craving had faded. Those 7 cigarettes lasted me two whole weeks. Never touched them until my craving had passed. In the end of it all I failed.... Which can lead to doubt it is doable and give up....Sometimes we put more than we should on ourselves. So I am not going to judge myself either way. God allowed it before, he is holding me now (not nearly where I was) and wait to be able to go at it again is all.

  42. Thanks for your response. I will answer this way. As to spiritual verses carnal, with regards to the world we live in and decisions regarding that world.. When I said spiritual I spoke of all the things you mentioned above. Which things Paul possessed as a believer (heavenly citizenship). When I spoke of law which is by nature I spoke of those which are outside of that, among men, the world we presently live. Since we agree on Paul possessing all you just mentioned, I will continue into that area with Paul himself. Appeals to his Roman citizenship. The friction and dispute the people were taking up with Paul. Paul appealed to his Roman citizenship, and the rights given him under Roman law. Act 22:23 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air, 24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him. 25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned? 26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman. 27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea. 28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. 29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. {examined him: or, tortured him } 30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them. Paul's defense compliance to the law....also of Ceasar. Ac 25:8 While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all. Paul appealed to the judgement seat of Caesar's where he ought to be judged in his Roman citizenship, and not doing any offence under that law as a citizen. Ac 25:10 Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest. This I also think we agree...This appeal to his earthly citizenship, just judgment through it, and obligation to it, is not a denial of his heavenly Citizenship, nor an indication of him not walking in it, with his fellow citizens in it. Be blessed.

  43. Acts 17:26 - From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 1 Cor 15:45 - Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 1 Cor 15:47 - The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; (Gen 2:7) the second man is from heaven. Why don't these verses end all argument? No humans before Adam.

  44. @Marston Just a reminder of when you signed up -- Let me share a little bit of my vision for the ministry in a parable. Let's say I'm throwing a big party and am inviting the world to the party (the forums) and I want everyone to have a great time, eating (reading through posts being fed), drinking (being encouraged to walk in His Word), and having fellowship with one another. In Israel, we have Shabbat meals -- and whenever you have 2 Jews -- you have 3 opinions -- it's GREAT to be opinionated. I encourage discussions ... but during our Shabbat meals ... we never ever get to the point in disagreements whereby food is being tossed and seriously yelling takes place! And if someone comes into the meal ... and starts throwing food ... and yells at everyone -- what do you suppose the head of the Shabbat meal will do? He'll escort those causing problems out of the house! Why? Because the whole reason for the gathering was to learn from one another ... to have a great time of fellowship! Some people like to constantly throw food and yell ... they won't last on Worthy ... because they missed the point of the party ... it's a prequel to the true party -- the Lamb's Supper! All I'm trying to provide is a place to allow true fellowship ... and discussions in love ... in the hopes it will be a catalyst for true REVIVAL based on REPENTANCE! I hope you have a blessed time at Worthy! @Marston For the time being, I've placed you on Mod Review. Discuss in love ... if you can't do that ... you can find another forum! Be blessed, George
