Distant black hole holds surprises about the early universe
da_man1974 replied to MorningGlory's topic in Science and Faith
Do you have proof of this? -
I heard an interesting theory last night. Some people think that this story may be from Luke but it is actually recorded in John in the Bible. Have any of you heard this?

Very good. You have managed to assert that you rely on reification and elephant hurling fallacies all in one post. And how do you figure astronomy isn't a science? Astronomy (from Greek: ἀστρονομία) is a natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena. It applies mathematics, physics, and chemistry, in an effort to explain the origin of those objects and phenomena and their evolution. Objects of interest include planets, moons, stars, galaxies, and comets; the phenomena include supernova explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic microwave background radiation. More generally, all phenomena that originate outside Earth's atmosphere are within the purview of astronomy. A related but distinct subject, physical cosmology, is concerned with the study of the Universe as a whole.[1] -

I think we could point that finger at many others on this site.

So this is elephant hurling. Got it. The fallacy of elephant hurling, arises when the debater start to amassing huge quotes, accumulating a large amount of evidence supposedly supporting his position, to give the impression of weighty evidence, but without demonstrating that all the evidence does indeed support his argument. The debater has the undeclared assumption that accumulating a great deal of evidence out of context would make his ideas seem true. -

How do you know they are lying? You know when you point the finger at someone else you have 3 fingers pointing back at you. -

Thanks for sharing. I love looking at this type of stuff. My son's and I set my spotting scope up this summer to look at the moon. Thought about getting some photographs but couldn't figure out how. We had it set on 60X and could almost make out the craters. -
It's bad but we all know who wins in the end.

I think there are going to be negatives to any message board that a person goes onto. I personally take a lot of the negative stuff with a grain of salt. I know the world would run a lot smoother if everyone thought and believed the same things I do (sarcasm). But I have accepted the reality that that isn't going to happen. I enjoy the site and mainly use it for thought provoking ideas on other people's viewpoints. I am lucky enough that I have a pastor that I meet with for breakfast about once a week to discuss different topics of theology that I don't understand. He and I disagree of a few points but continue to meet and discuss. I personally think personal fellowship (being involved in a church, bible study, etc.) is more beneficial for me than what someone out in the digital universe says on a message board.

I was listening to Family Talk this morning and they had this scientist on there talking about outer space. He was saying NASA did a study with the hubble telescope. They found an area between 2 stars that appeared dark. So they pointed hubble that direction and took a picture and left the shutter on the camera open for 11 days. When they looked at that picture then what they saw was approximately 10,000 galaxies. It amazes me how vast our universe is. Put this into comparison that you are one person on one planet in one galaxy that has millions of stars in it. And God knows how many hairs are on your head. Just mind boggling to say the least.

I luckily don't seem to suffer from this too bad. If somebody does something really dumb I may mumble under my breath. I guess I try to put myself in the other persons shoes and if I were to make a mistake while driving. -

I think you should confront your boyfriend and let him know how it makes you feel that he is doing this. Maybe he needs to attend everyman's battle. And as Yowm pointed out. There are a lot of red flags with and maybe you should look at those.
