  1. I'm just wondering if you have been recently saved? (as you say you have only started reading the Bible lately) I think you have some good answers here...the ones I agreed with haha...but seriously, don't let people condemn you especially when they do not even know you
  2. I heard that one about the wild turkey. good for the man and the turkey! I agree about the hummingbirds...we used to have them come right to the window if they were out of food and they could see if there was a person inside they would just buzz in one place and when someone would go out to fill the feeder, they would buzz around their head in excitement. I love the little wrens. once had one try and try to get into the house and finally it did. it flew all over presumably looking for a place to 'call home' but I redirected it outside. they are such determined little things. we have one now that comes into the pool cage looking for things to eat and then gets out again. a regular visitor we also a had a wild turkey showing up and sitting on the roof and on top of the car. the following year, a momma wild turkey and a gang of babies showed up in the pasture across the road. one day, a hawk showed up flying above them and went into an oak nearby. the mother flew into the tree after it and there was a disturbance and the hawk busted out and kept going. mother turkey rejoined her crew. yah don't wanna mess with a wild turkey! ???
  3. I always heard he drove the snakes out of Ireland National Geo states it was the ice age.........
  4. While I do believe that Christians cannot be possessed, it should not be thought that the devil leaves them alone either. Sometimes, the tendency is to act as though the devil cannot challenge a believer...I don't mean the devil personally of course...but demonic spirits This is not something to fear as we know we have the victory already won by our Savior. Unfortuneatly, Christian bookstores harbor an inordinate amount of books by authors who propose far more about the devil then the Bible allows. The Bible does not ignore the devil or his interaction with believers, but the focus is on Christ's victory over the devil and our victory in turn if we are in Christ.
  5. That is not exactly how Jesus put it. What He actually said was this: 43“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” Matt 12 The emphasis is on the 'house' being unoccupied. In other words, the person did not fill up on God. I do not believe the Bible indicates that Christians are possessed. But the Bible never states that the Holy Spirit cannot be in the presence of a demon. If the Holy Spirit cannot be in the presence of a demon, then how is anyone ever deliverd of a demon? Demons can and do harrass Christians. Read about the apostle Paul for example.
  6. I was just going to post what you have posted Willa. I had that thought in mind exactly...sin is missing the mark...falling short of God's perfect holiness And I don't think we really understand just how far we miss even when we think we may have hit the bull's eye...
  7. Well, I doubt that it his intent but you are free to believe that if you want. Anyway, as you cannot change history, you can at least learn from it. I didn't know Iran was building centrifuges 2500 years ago. Perhaps he was speaking of the future after all I'm not sure why you are so insistent on trying to prove me wrong. I'm not wrong, but you have another go if you like Just remember what both myself and other one said
  8. This is false regarding wealth. What is a decent wage? A decent wage is what the market says the labor is worth. No employer forces you to work for them, you are welcome to leave for a higher paying job if you are worth more. Employment is at will, and this relationship only exist because it mutually benefit both participating parties. This entitlement mentality is wrong and is greed itself. If a person's labor is not worth more what they are getting paid now, why do they have the right to demand higher pay. The employer does not owe you anymore than what they agreed to pay you. But a wise employer would pay you a good wage to keep you motivated and stay at the job. Well this is a side topic, but scripture actually does speak of fair wages. Scripture covers alot of ground. Perhaps a quick examination of foreign countries such as Pakistan or China would reveal that millions are paid far below their actual worth. Ever heard of sweat shops? As far as not being forced to work, if the only job a person can get is one that is underpaid and they have a family or even just themself to feed, then guess what.....in most countries they will take the job Over simplification does no one justice. There may be a so called entitilement mentality in the US and even Canada, but in most countries people work to be able to just eat...no fringe benefits. End of side issue.
  9. Because your president seems not to be on Israel's side Shiloh. Israel may well be some small little country, but I don't think most people understand the big stick they carry...... I got the message that he thinks that the agreement that Obama and Kerry are proposing is guaranteeing the destruction of Israel within ten years. He says that simply isn't going to happen and I take it, God help us if we get in the way... Never again means more then what happened 70 years ago
  10. It is my understanding that some people who are anti-semitic are sometimes those who adhere to the teaching that God has removed His hand from Israel and all the blessings now fall upon the church I've come across that from time to time, but it sure is not what scripture teaches And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed." Gen 12:3
  11. I didn't see you trying to promote legalism. We have different styles of expression and I tend to take a broader form and include more in my observations Just a different way of expression, so no worries
  12. uh huh. Yet to some, watching tv might have the appearance of being fleshly...or a glass of wine might mean fleshy lust The word appearance is quite subjective actually, in spite of the denial that it is not. At any rate, I take objection to the statement that one generation is worse then another when coupled with the belief that the older generation is obviously so much better. I'm not Alex's age....but I wouldn't make that kind of statement to try and demonstrate that everyone above a certain age is automatically in a position to judge everyone below them Way too many generalities given as 'proof' in this thread IMO. And I would actually be conservative in my approach as to how others viewed me....but I think the conversation here is trying to hard to prove something that is not necessairly so
  13. I didn't suggest it either. However, it seems legalism is suggested by the site I quoted. That is actually what is going on.
  14. Back sooner rather than later apparently The following is from the Got Questions site...that is not where I found my original post concerning the translation of the word that appears either as appearance or form (of evil) However, here is the conclusion from that site (which is a site that makes things easy for everyone to understand) and it seems the conclusion is pretty much undergirds the point I have been trying to make Read more:http://www.gotquestions.org/appearance-of-evil.html#ixzz3TMGYsPQ7
  15. um...I'm gasping for air LOL!...be back later
  16. uh...when I read the Bible it seems Alex's generation has alot in common with characters from Genesis right through the NT Alex's response is not weak...what you do not seem to understand, is that that is his LEGITIMATE response...whether you agree or not, that is how he views it
  17. Question though Shiloh if you don't mind How is that you can be such a stickler for scripture and yet say you don't care if the verse says appearance or form of evil? I am genuinely asking in the interst of an honest discussion thanks
  18. But we are not speaking of living in a way that would give credence to the belief a person is doing evil It is about how things appear and it is becoming evident that subjective is an understatement IMO
  19. Well lets go back to the op...I have followed the thread on yoga, so I'm aware of the process there If I read the op for this thread, I can agree that many situations might look evil...the dish, the wine or beer, nice house etc And I come to the conclusion that in each example, it will depend on the subjective view of the individual who is considering whether or not evil is a factor in the appearance of any one of the examples Here is what I mean: I come from a European background...kids drink wine at family gatherings...no big deal...mind you just a very little bit or mixed with pop I won't think it evil to have a glass of wine if you are a Christian. Some Christians will go into shock right there. So then we have to ask, is wine evil? Is the appearance of wine evil? Is the act of having some wine evil ? (note I did not say getting stone drunk and viewing the ceiling from the floor where one has fallen) well I guess you mean form of evil vs appearance Evil is a noun, an adverb, and an adjective (I looked it up to make sure) and also can be used in an idomatic fashion: ie the 'evil' one (devil) On the other hand, appearance is subjective....as I pointed out ...so I do see a difference
  20. Well I certainly agree about culture, but do we apply scripture to culture other then when considering our own modus operandi as believers? the verse is addressed to believers and I don't know, but I find it interesting to think that a better translation might be to abstain from every FORM of evil rather than appearance of evil I mean evil is a strong word And yes, i did mention liberal theology myself.....definately a decline in morality...almost like an 'oh well...if we want more people in church we need to agree with culture'...which of course is the opposite thing a believer should do But maybe in this discussion we could discount them...just for the sake of clarification...or not
  21. That's a very broad brush IMO. I don't think like that and most Christians I know do not think like that. Let's not confuse liberal theology with subjective criteria I'm sure you don't mean everyone I am serious when I state that many false accusations are made in the name of having to label something we don't have all the facts on
  22. I agree. I'm not getting involved in the meal scenario but I certainly know how busy little minds work in the subjective category I actually do think it is better to avoid iffy situations, but appearance can and has been taken to extremes...alot of rumors start that way
