  1. WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You did not get yours this year? What were you thinking, we together could have eliminated all that CO2 from this years total amount!
  2. I work in retail, and our store does sell Nativity scenes and accessories for them. Customers can choose what they want. Our store also sells food stuffs for Jews, and Muslims. Just because one is Christian or not, they can find what they are looking for. As far as a private business, thank God I live in a small town, private business do express their beliefs. One Chinese restaurant here plays Christian music in the back ground. Its not blaring, but loud enough to hear it if you want. Another Chinese restaurant has Buddhas in it. People have choices to go where they want to go. I do avoid most stores where I would be offended by the products that are sold there. Unfortunately, some stores that carry what I need are also carrying things that solicit other people with different tastes. I don't complain. I just don't buy what offends me. (Except for fuel, its not the fuel that offends me, its the prices.) I honestly believe if Christians came together and celebrated Christmas and its true meaning and stayed out of the commercialism, it would send messages to the retailers. There are millions of people spending lots of money on Christmas, and many of them are Christians. Also, one last thing before I go.....there is awesome power in prayer. Let us pray for our neighbors and nations. Take our complaints before the Lord and let God move in our hearts and our towns. Merry Christmas everyone. Bty, in our public schools, the pledge of allegiance is still said "One nation, under God."
  3. Many stores with a pharmacy have blood pressure machines that you can sit down and put your arm in and check your blood pressure. I am not sure how accurate they are but I believe that it can give you a close rating. At least its free at most places. In the mean time, keep your dr informed and go in for regular check ups. Life is short, and who knows who you will meet when you are in the waiting room.
  4. NNNNNNNOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooo!
  5. It is a simple command to do........if you dont have neighbors like mine.....
  6. Wow, this thread really took off........I am glad too, for there was some learning involved. I am glad that the point for modest dress was for worshipping God in a service. Though this does not mean women should dress distastful while in public. And as for the beach......well good morals should go to the beach. At the very least, wear clothing attire that will help protect your skin from the elements like the sun. I do believe that we can set ourselves apart from the world, by the way that we live, and also the way that we dress. We do not have to keep up with the Jones' or our neighbors, which to do so would have some of us in debt that we cannot afford. We need to be open to God's direction in our lives, so that we dont fall into being greedy with money, time, things, clothes, etc. Our focus needs to remain on God everyday, not on sports, not on what we are driving, not on who is wearing what, but on our Father who has a purpose for our lives. His plan will be so much more meaningful, if we can keep out as much garbage as we can. There are many obsessions out there that keep the Church from unity. What are we doing to keep unity? Why do we let nit-picky things, that have nothing to do with salvation, come between us and set us apart? Non-christians are watching us. They are laughing at us. And for some, they dont want anything to with us. Is the Light of Christ shining in you or through you?
  7. At the retail store that i work at we have been told not to say Merry Christmas but to keep it simple like happy holidays. We have also been banned from wearing religious jewelery, I can no longer wear my cross neclaces unless they are underneat my top and hidden from view. However, when i enter the gate for my other job, the guard, born and raised in iraq, tells everyone "God bless you!" Go figure
  8. I really was not trying to push the burka's, but then again
  9. Hmmmmm I wonder does the OP have a thread to burka bathing suits Sorry OP, please forgive my sillyness
  10. hey now!!!!!!! do not make the burka so tempting
  11. One thing i can say about the burka, it takes all the guess work out of getting dressed! You will never see me in one, I enjoy the challenge of getting modestly dressed.
  12. Ok Thoughtful, I agree with you too. I was brought up with santa, the tooth fairy and the easter bunny. My children were not. Well they were brought up knowing that it was parents who played the roles in life. These characters were no more real to them than bugs bunny and mickey mouse. They are teenagers now and still believe in Christ Jesus. And I have grown to make sure, that under the tree at Christmas time, there are no Santas on the wrapping paper, and no santa or reindeer figurines on the tree. I do what I can to make the holiday a reminder for why and Whom we celebrate, that I purposely keep santa and the elves and reindeer out it. But this is just me. I just cant seem to find a better spot for them except in the fireplace and the city wont let me light a fire in the fire place.
  13. I appolgize for being defensive. I went back and reread the OP. I did not perseive it to be legalistic, the second time around. I do wholeheartedly agree, that women do need to dress modestly. Modesty itself, can be a challenge. The OP had questions as to how this woman dresses and checks herself to make sure she is not about to be seductive in anyway. Though I do think of some of those things when I am getting dressed, I dont think about all of them. Of course my closet doesnt have questionalbe attire to be adorned. IMO. And there is the other issue. My opinion is not necessarily the same as the OP's. Does this make me less of a Christian lady? No it does not. There are women who wear clothes that I would never put on for sake of me feeling less than modest. For them, they may feel modestly dressed. And I do struggle with some of the younger ladies, who shall we say, leave nothing to the imagination, on how to appropriately address the modesty issue. (This is in chuch bty) I agree too, that we need to take the steps necessary to not make others stumble. If that requires being more conscious about what we are wearing and what we are showing, then we need to be proactive in LOVE and dress apropriately. I do hope this is not coming across as legalistic. The biggest struggle today, and this may have been the issue long before my time, is what the godless society is telling ladies and girls what to wear and how to dress.
  14. While I do myself dress more modestly than many other women in my area, why is this about women dressing modestly? What about what men wear or dont wear? This need not turn legalistic, because, as several posters have pointed out, its from within and attitude. Even though, a woman may be dress less modest than others, its the responsibility for the man to turn his eyes away. Anyone remember King David and Bathsheba? Yes, we as Christians do have a moral responsiblity about ourselves. God will hold each and everyone of us accountable. Accountable how we present ourselves and how we treat/view others. Our thoughts are also accountable. Are we thinkinkg lustful thoughts or evil thoughts? Just because a woman or man is wearing less than what you think is appropriat, you as well have to control you thoughts on what you think about the person. Christ was not quick to judge a woman who was brought before him for being caught in the act of committing adultry. BTY, where was the other partner to the act of commiting adulty with this woman? Should we not be more like Christ and less like Pharissees and Saducees?
  15. LPT just dont tell anyone or show any one or admit it to any one
  16. Dragons cannot breath fire but a child can have two mommies or daddies? Is the Bugs Bunny show still too violent? My children never had any confusion over what was fictional and what was real. Why on earth do people think that today's children cannot separate fact from fiction? Are these people living a fictional life while the real world goes on unnoticed? Is Watership Down, by Richard Adams, or Dr. Suess banned from the school libraries? What is going to happen to the next generation if we feed them the warm and fuzzy world of fiction is all they can think about? I understand "child proofing" homes for infants and toddlers, to keep them safe from possible hazards in cupboards and kitchen drawers. There also comes a time when the children are taught about the dangers in the home and not to stick things in light sockets or touch a hot stove. Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, books that our parents read to us, that I read to my children, those that turned into movies, are these too going to be "edited" so that the future generation's fantasies are politically correct?
  17. Me too. Going to church does not make one Christian, and there are many reasons/excuses that a Christian might use to miss a service or two. But it has been my experience to witness those that skip on service then another and eventually quit going altogether, they do become starved for the fellowshipping with other Christians and with God himself. But as I state this, there will undoubtedly be those who would choose to not agree with me.
  18. Ummm who was president that set up the economy that Bill so non-chalanty walked into?
  19. That's true. We are told to celebrate Hid death, not His birth. It's really a secular holiday. So to me, it's just another day. I won't get into all the spending money I don't have, go into debt, and all the rest. But what political correctness has done still makes me angry. I do send cards, just to remember people at least once a year, but I won't buy cards that don't say Merry Christmas, and they get harder and harder to find. It makes me really angry. Though I do not buy boxed Christmas cards at the store anymore, they are just to generic, I do order them on-line, because I can choose what I want printed in them. As for Christmas being a pagan holiday, or any holiday being pagan, I can choose to celebrate Christ in my life any day, any holiday, any way that represents the personal relationship that I have with Christ. It is because of Christ, that I have any and all reasons to celebrate. How I celebrate with my family is between me and my family and Christ. There is something that is quite significant about the birth of Jesus. Its True that its His death which is important to us all. The Bible is full of celebrations and festivals. And God gives us many reasons which call for celebrations, and all through out the year. So celebrate Chrismas, Easter, weddings, birthdays, anniversarys, graduations, recoveries, and God.
  20. Awww Tigger, you should not fear. When these things come to pass, (not particularly this situation) we shall be able to chat in person with all of us together in one room or on one lawn. Internet will no longer be needed.
  21. Over jelly beans? That is really crazy. I remember a family would come into a store that I worked at and stand in front of the open bins of dog food and eat them. We would get costomer complaints ranging from "they are stealing" to "cant you offer them some real food at least". As far as sampling goes, I used to see it every day. I dont see it much since I dont work there anymore, nor shop there much either. But this mangager, even though it was in his right, was being overy outrageous. As for me, I would be more concerned about the $100's in upaid groceries that walk out than a sampling of a candy that would never ever be worth the $6.99/lb to be purchased.
  22. That was just simply beautiful.....Thank you for sharing!
