  1. If you believe your house is on fire . . . "Oh, I believe my house is on fire. Thank you so much for telling me." Will you keep watching your TV? One time, on the way to Sunday School, I saw a fire in the leaves behind a house. No one was there. So, I went to the house and asked if they had the fire there on purpose. NO! But because he believed what I told him, he did something about it. If we believe Jesus is God's own Son who died on the cross for us . . . if we believe that how Jesus is is good and the only way to become, and how He loves is the only real and right way to love . . . and God's grace changes us so we share with Him in how Jesus is and loves . . . If we believe this, we leave what isn't . . . believing we can't get our own selves to do this - - - depending on how our Father shares with us so we succeed > in sharing with Him > "one spirit with Him" (in 1 Corinthians 6:17). "we who first trusted in Christ" (in Ephesians 1:12) We believed and therefore trusted. If you come to personally trust a person, this can be very deep and intimate and sharing. And in such loving, we can be so glad we are no longer so independent and isolated. And Jesus has us be one family with each other. So, indeed salvation does become a family blessing. And how simple is family?? lolololol
  2. In any case, I offer that I understand what you are saying. But . . . There is "the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." (in Ephesians 2:2) This is Satan's spirit which "works" to have people do what Satan wants. Plus, Jesus says to Satan's children > "the desires of your father you want to do." (in John 8:44) Plus, we have how Satan keeps his people in bondage by means of "fear of death" > Hebrews 2:14-15.
  3. To call on the Lord can mean not to only name Jesus, but to trust in Him (Ephesians 1:12) . . . to call upon Jesus as our one and only Resource of salvation. So, in case a person says a prayer naming Jesus, but the person does not trust in Him by submitting to Him . . . now we have a problem! The person can take things into his or her own hands and free will controlling things. And this is what is really complicated! And perhaps an unsaved person will mix with people who seem to be working wonders or really are. And then the unsaved person might "piggy-back" on what others do or seem to do, supposing he or she is part of it. But Jesus does not believe them. Their saying it is so does not make it so . . . especially if Jesus never knew them. If they have been children of the father of lies (John 8:44), certainly they could be claiming what Jesus knows is not true. And this deception stuff is what is complicated. Trusting in Jesus by submitting to Him is good > "you will find rest for your souls" > in Matthew 11:29. "But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him." (1 Corinthians 6:17) When someone trusts in Jesus, God joins the person to Himself. And His power almighty does this and His power almighty keeps the person and changes the person into how Jesus is and how Jesus loves. So such is the person whom Jesus will know on the day of judgment > 1 John 4:17 > "Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world." (1 John 4:17) The simplicity is that God does this, and He knows how . . . so better than we can.
  4. But, DeighAnn . . . faith is not under the Law . . . right? And Galatians 5:6 says faith works by means of love . . . whose love? Is God's love under the Law? And Abraham did a work of faith > James 2:21, and was "justified". And Abraham believed God; and because of believing God, Abraham was blessed with righteousness > Romans 4:9. So, he was above what the Law could do.
  5. When I looked into becoming a park ranger, I was thinking of being out in the wilderness . . . doing I don't know what. But it was a profession in high demand, and the local school specializing in it had high standards. And now I see . . . those park rangers standing at park entrances, with even more than a mile of cars waiting to be cleared to enter the park . . . while may be they are smelling the car fumes, all day. And then there might be guarding the parking lots against bears, and guarding camping areas. One time, I did spend time with a "real" ranger in a state forest, I think it is . . . the Adirondacks in upstate New York. One time, we came ashore in his canoe, and I started pulling it up on the ground . . . while he had just stood up to come off of the canoe. And he was screaming crazily, at how I could have dumped him in the lake. Well . . . it occurred to me, that he might have such a great job, but he might have some deep problems. He had me wear his jacket with a ranger's patch, one evening, while I went out to check and visit and assist campers. With that jacket on . . . everyone was offering me food. And I detected some guys sneaking near some girl campers from an island camp I knew. I told the leader, then went out in the brush and called out in the dark, that if they were hiding there, they needed to get back to their camp and I would be there shortly. They seemed kind of nervous, when I got there. And I stayed on the ground near the girls' lean-to, and got my first experience with hypothermia. So, I got a sample.
  6. I failed in various professional things. Then I lived on purpose with outdoor homeless people, in order to see what could be done for them free of charge, with me as their Christian neighbor. But this did not set well with a number of church people and my mother. But when she was getting older, and I might be staying a while with her, I could be the one who finds her keys; and in that moment, that could mean a lot more to her, than if I was a successful multimillionaire and had a family at the other end of the country. And now I am available to help my senior lady friend, since I never got "married" to a profession. So, now I can be more personal with people, not answering to some ministerial or professional schedule. So . . . do you stay with her?
  7. One time, I was visiting a Spanish-speaking church, and the preacher said, if I remember correctly > "No hay nada problema demasiado grande por Dios." I think this means > "There is no problem too great for God."
  8. This is why I consider that "encantado" could be meant to show some deep and personal appreciation for having met someone, or after having had a good first conversation with the person.
  9. Thank you I looked it up. It can also mean to be charmed or delighted. Also, encantado has part of the word for cantar, to sing or a song. So I am curious if the two words are related. I mean . . . possibly encantar means to put a song into someone's heart . . . and so delighting and charming someone.
  10. I would say encantado or encantada could be a response to someone saying "Que Dios bendiga", because it would mean you are glad to meet the person blessing you. Also - - "mucho gusto" I think means I am glad to meet you. @BibleStudent100 And can't encantado/a mean enchanted?
  11. Hi Jesus wants us to love any and all people; so I try to pick up things to say to love people in different languages. But it seems to me, that right now where I am we can have people who speak Spanish and little to no English. So, I am specializing in learning Spanish, and it is fun to share, at times with people from Mexico and south of there. At first, I did not know how to say much, and I did not understand well. But I memorized Bible verses that say things I might want to say to people. And even though I might not know all the vocabulary and grammar in a verse, still I could say the verse to bless people. And now I have more Spanish so I can say things not memorized from the Bible. I meet Hispanics often in stores. And we can say hi and Que Dios bendiga, which means God bless you. And Igualmente, which literally means "equally", I think. And so, if someone says "Igualmente" back when you bless them, I understand they mean, "likewise". Does anyone here know English and Spanish well? How do you understand "igualmente"?
  12. Once Adam sinned, he could be controlled by "the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." (in Ephesians 2:2) And this evil spirit of selfishness corrupts a person with anger and hate and stress and fear and worry and degrading demands for pleasure and excitement, and boredom and loneliness and arguing and frustration and unforgiveness, trying to control people for what someone expects from others, and self-righteous criticizing. And this messes up people emotionally so we can't love sweetly and gently and pleasantly. Plus, Satan's anti-love stuff is destructive in how it effects our physical bodies and wrecks self-control so we don't take good care of ourselves. And so you can see this, how ones with self-centered emotional stuff can also have even major physical and medical trouble. And so, I would say, we can see how people's lifespans after Adam got shorter and shorter because of his sin which introduced the spirit of evil into humans. And then Satan's spirit took more and more effect so people's lives got shorter and shorter. But with Jesus we have how the Holy Spirit affects us > "'Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.'" (Matthew 11:29)
  13. Right now, what I get is people at that time were living in sin which was passed on to them by Adam. And with the sin came death. It reigned, by the fact that no matter what anyone did, still he or she would die. So, death reigned, in the sense that it had power over every person: no one could get away from it. And spiritually, how might it have reigned? Hebrews 2:14-15 says > "Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." (Hebrews 2:14-15) So, people in sin were in slavery to Satan, by means of "fear of death"! So, in a way, maybe we can say, Deigh Ann, that death ruled by means of how sinners were fearing death. The evil spirit of disobedience worked in them to keep them in slavery to fear of death, so Satan could control them in his kingdom. First, Adam and Eve disobeyed God; and so they became infected by the power and working of > "the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." (in Ephesians 2:2) And this evil spirit was able to move on to their children, infecting them also. And so we have how so many people had sin and death passed on to them, to rule them by means of Satan's selfish spirit working.
  14. "nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3) "Then Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, everyone at the door of his tent; and the anger of the LORD was greatly aroused; Moses also was displeased. So Moses said to the LORD, 'Why have You afflicted Your servant? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You have laid the burden of all these people on me? Did I conceive all these people? Did I beget them, that You should say to me, "Carry them in your bosom, as a guardian carries a nursing child," to the land which You swore to their fathers?'" (Numbers 11:11-13) "But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children." (1 Thessalonians 2:7) "And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved." (2 Corinthians 12:15)
  15. "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
  16. "nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3)
  17. "Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him," (in Mark 10:21) What happened is the man asked Jesus what he needed to do to get everlasting life. And Jesus asked Him if he had kept commandments which Jesus mentioned. Then the guy said he did keep those commandments. Then Jesus looked at the guy and loved him, and told him to sell all that he had and give to the poor, and come and "take up the cross, and follow" Jesus. But the rich man was sad when he was told that, because he possessed much. So, what I see is how Jesus knew the guy wasn't being real with Him. Oh yes, he obeyed the commandments that Jesus Himself listed. But Jesus saw through that. But even though Jesus knew the rich man was wrong, Jesus looked at him and loved him and then told him what to do. So, instead of just judging and criticizing the wrong guy, Jesus loved first, then spoke. And Jesus is not conceited. He is willing to talk even with ones He knows are not being real with Him. And He personally loves ones who are not right. So, I definitely need to get this! I have been very swift and ready to judge people and want to straighten them out, or even dump them . . . wanting to show how right I am, and feel my time is too good for dealing with certain people who have played games with me. I, then, can just talk or judge, and not first love a person who I might see is wrong. lecture lecture lecture "He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is fully and shame to him." (Proverbs 18:13) So, a wise person hears a matter and then speaks. It is wise to hear from Jesus, about people. And what I can get is that God has us have hope for anyone > love "hopes all things" (in 1 Corinthians 13:7). Jesus on the cross had hope for any and all people. "So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God." (in James 1:19-20) Jesus loved first, and then spoke, in dealing with how He knew the guy was wrong. And here we see James speaking to us with love . . . as "beloved brethren" . . . while confronting how we could need major correction, even. So, James is even confirming how Jesus has given us His example of loving people, even while dealing with great need for correction. And Paul and Silvanus and Timothy related tenderly with the Thessalonians while ministering to them > "just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children." (in 1 Thessalonians 2:7) So, Jesus on earth, and through James, and through Paul and Silvanus and Timothy has loved us tenderly while dealing with us about our need for correction and maturity. And so this is our example of how to relate with love and caring for even wrong people . . . and ones who do not change the way I think they should.
  18. If people believe in free will, they might think predestination means that God knew ahead of time who would freely choose to trust in Jesus (Ephesians 1:12), and He therefore predestined those people to be saved. But there are people who believe predestination means God has made the choice of who will be saved. Arminian people are one group who believe each human makes his or her choice in his or her own free will, and Calvinists are one group who believe God has decided who will be saved. And people can use the Bible to support their "free will" belief, while others can use the Bible to support their belief that God has made the choice of who will be saved. You consider it to not be logical to have predestination plus preaching, if people will be saved anyway. But in case God does choose who will be saved, He also is personal and He pleases to share as family with His children. And so, even if He makes choices, He includes His children in doing what He has decided to do. Plus, He has us help people to get saved, so we can share as family with other saved people and prepare together for eternity with Jesus. And He uses His word > His word is guaranteed to accomplish what He desires . . . doing exactly all He Himself pleases > "'So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.'" (Isaiah 55:11) God's word does God's own meaning so better than we could know to choose, even at each moment. And it is like how God said for there to be mankind. God spoke it, then He Himself had it happen the way He meant it. Adam did not choose to exist. But Adam and we have indeed made choices, haven't we? And we now are reaping so much more, including emotionally, than we thought we were choosing earlier in our lives! We will reap > Galatians 6:7-8 > however we really have been becoming in this life. So we need, then, how Jesus changes us to become and love like Him so we reap in ourselves how we will be and love like Jesus, for eternity. So we need, then, to constantly depend on God in us, and not trust in our own human will's ability. We need to stay attentive and submissive to God, all the time, how God has us grow and succeed in this > "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." (Philippians 2:13) This is what we need to always be choosing. But it seems a number of people in their wills are not freely choosing to change in their character so we are and love like Jesus. So, I do not recommend that you depend on what you are humanly able to do in your own will, in any case. "Therefore submit to God." (in James 4:7) "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15)
  19. Deuteronomy 14:22-29 According to this, the tither eats from his or her own tithe, at the place where the LORD directs, plus every third year reserves the tithe for the Levites and needy.
  20. "Therefore submit to God." (in James 4:7) "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." (Philippians 2:13) "the Father who dwells in Me does the works" (in John 14:10) So, yes surrender. But there are soldiers who can surrender but they do not defect and become loyal and submissive to whoever they surrender to. We need to surrender, plus trust how Jesus changes us in our character so we are submissive to how He rules us in His own peace > "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15) We need how God corrects our character (Hebrews 12:4-14) so we are submissive to how He rules us in His own peace > how He changes us, transforming and renewing and tuning us to how He is in His love. Seek this in prayer > "praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God" (in Jude 20-21). And this has us "in one body" with all of God's obedient children . . . therefore in family caring and sharing prayerfully together, not praying for this in isolation with ourselves, but praying "for all the saints" (in Ephesians 6:18). So, this surrender is submissive to God who is so beautifully kind and personal . . . not distant from us while we try and struggle in the isolation of our own free wills > "But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him." (1 Corinthians 6:17) And we have Jesus Himself praying for us to so succeed. Jesus is praying for us . . . according to His faith (Romans 8:34)
  21. "'Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.'" (Matthew 11:29)
  22. "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." (Romans 13:14) "I am gentle and lowly in heart" (in Matthew 11:28) "be clothed with humility" (in 1 Peter 5:5) "not in passion of lust" (in 1 Thessalonians 4:5) "with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love," (Ephesians 4:2) "swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath" (in James 1:19-20) "without complaining and disputing" (in Philippians 2:13-16) "as a nursing mother cherishes her own children." (1 Thessalonians 2:7)
  23. Is love gentle and patient? Emotionally gentle . . . versus how lusts can be controlling and dominating and demanding . . . yes, godly and trustworthy love does not turn us crazy and blind because of charm and hope for pleasure. There is a major difference between love's intimate sharing with another, and being intimate with my own pleasure sensations, while merely using someone else to get my pleasure experience! And so, in love we are patient, hoping for the other to become genuine in God's love so we can enjoy the benefit of sharing in God's kind of love. And so, we are prayerful. Love is prayerful, also, we are in sharing with God, not only isolating with some one person we desire to possess and use.
  24. Well, if you need to be gentle and patient with a person you love, I suppose this can mean your love needs to be gentle and patient.
  25. One thing I get is that God gave Jesus, and only God can come from Himself. Because He is love, God gave His best.
