  1. In L.A. the older buildings such as I live in have rent control. However, we still get a rent increase each year of either 3% or 4%. So it does add up, the increases get larger and larger as time goes on. And since we didn't get Social Security raises for four years, that didn't help at all. Thankful that under President Trump, we finally got an increase. Also, the apartment management company that took over about four years ago is very shady and really awful to us tenants. They do illegal things also, to try to get more money from us.
  2. I always thought San Antonio sounds like a nice city. Is that Central Texas? But for now my elderly mother and I seem to be in a holding pattern. She is 89 and in a couple of more months, I will be 69. Years ago we had a friend that moved and bought a home in Tyler, TX....little did we know our rents would go crazy high. I don't have a car anymore so also rely on taxis for marketing and taking my mom to the doctors. Appreciate your prayers that we will be led in what we should do in the future.
  3. That is funny.... I've been in L.A. for most of my life after growing up in PA. But the past years the rents have gone up tremendously....many fancy apartment buildings, and more under construction. Even the older buildings have high rents. So many people are starting to leave California. I am a senior citizen so it's hard for me to make a major change....for now it's day by day as the Lord taught us.
  4. True, true...I always try to see the humor in things. One can't always be too serious....life can sometimes be hard enough. That's why I sometimes like to post lighter or funny topics. I have alot in the Wierd and Wacky News section here, you might get a laugh from some topics! Some of them are animal related. I also have some brief animal videos in the general video section. https://www.worthychristianforums.com/forum/82-weird-and-wacky-news/
  5. That's really horrible...the poor girl and others like her. May the Lord protect them all, and give healing and comfort to those already abused.
  6. I was just thinking of one of my rescued kitties (now in kitty heaven)....she used to come running like crazy whenever I blew into a harmonica! She loved it....none of my other cats ever reacted like that to it.
  7. A woman sitting in a Buffalo Wild Wings here heard something in the ceiling above her. All of a sudden a rat dropped down like a Mack truck and landed on her menu! The manager took the still living but stunned rat away. He claimed the rat was due to nearby construction. He did comp her meal. That reminds me....years ago at a Denny's, I finished my salad to see a dead roach drowned in my salad dressing! All the manager did was give me a free dessert!
  8. Is this near Phoenix? I have an elderly uncle there. Also, a couple of cousins in the White Mountains.
  9. My mom received her much needed hearing aids from a charity. I took her in the taxi to get them and see how to work them. Afterwards we ate at the McDonald's next to the audiologist. So this week was a blessing of God supplying these hearing aids. She finally was able to hear the TV after many years of just reading captions.
  10. Yes, that would be great! Last time I visited Pittsburgh was in 1989! Caring for my elderly mom so won't be traveling anytime soon. Also, my aunt in Pittsburgh died some years ago. Have some cousins there but they don't keep in touch.
  11. Thanks for responding, Shel! And also loved the photos! Did you go to Phipps Flower Conservatory in Pittsburgh? Sure is a beautiful one....flower displays change each season. I understand they enlarged Phipps alot. Alot of good memories from Pittsburgh...even taking a hugh paddlewheel boat up one of the rivers. Would visit the aviary and zoo alot, too. Also, the inclines are nice, and a great view from above.
  12. Don't know how I missed your hilarious cat stories, Neighbor! Must have been a glitch....luckily I went looking for my topic and found them now! Really enjoy your funny, descriptive way of explaining things.... especially about cats!
  13. P.S. Beau, I never saw that Andy Kaufman video. Maybe you could post it as a video at Worthy?
  14. Just went to YouTube to rewatch him....you are both right, he's funny! Had me lol. Since he passes the Christian inspection of the three of us, here's the video!

    Joel Osteen...

While I don't watch Joel Osteen, I have seen some of his sermons while channel surfing. The sermons I heard were messages of encouragement to people....to keep trusting in God, that the Lord will get you through the trials. He also invited people to believe on Christ as Savior and Lord at the end. One of my younger cousins who suffered greatly with many cancer surgeries, double radiation treatments (double usually never done), hyperbaric chamber treatments for infection, failed surgeries to reconstruct her jaw bones which broke due to double radiation.....well, this cousin listened to Joel Osteen and his preaching helped her through this. Doctors told her she would die soon....but she never did. Doctors thought it was a miracle. So I think if Osteen's encouraging sermons help people in despair, that is good. He does direct people to believe on Christ as Savior and Lord at the end of the program. Most people do go on to learn more about the Bible, perhaps even at another church. Perhaps the encouraging sermons were what they needed at that time, and the Lord used it to reach them.
  16. Scientologists have many strange beliefs. It's a cult totally removed from Christianity. Just several things about them: They will deprogram (audit) a person, but they charge alot of money for doing that! As a person goes higher and higher in the organization, the beliefs get stranger and stranger. In upper levels, members are finally told aliens inhabit them. The leadership is extremely controlling and can be punishing as well...even separating families. Their founder, L. Ron Hubbard, said he was abducted by aliens. He also said a good way to make money is by making a religion.
  17. Not all of us are called to be a street preacher, and it often does seems like they and their message are ignored. But I don't want to say anything bad or critical about them....if that is what they feel called or led to do.
  18. This made me smile and laugh a bit. Check it out!
  19. So kind of you to help them and go the extra mile to keep them warm! Half Persians must have been beautiful. Yes, if more people would spay and neuter, it would help the overpopulation so much. Then if people wanted kittens or cats, they could adopt from an animal shelter or rescue group. I don't know how my current cat ever ended up on my street. She is a beautiful, black and white long hair. She looks like an expensive cat. I adopted her in 2010. Yolanda who helped me years ago to get the strays spayed and neutered....she also got Miss Kitty spayed for me. L.A. has alot of free spaying and neutering offered year round. Sam Simon Foundation even has a mobile facility that visits various neighborhoods regularly. Then there is also FixNation near the Burbank Airport.
  20. Sower, I do think you are correct that the reason so many are suffering from PTSD is the change in warfare. As you said the soldiers are experiencing much more warfare and prolonged warfare than say soldiers during World War 1 and 2. (Not saying they didn't see atrocities.) One soldier in the TV show said he was on high alert every single day in the Middle East...and he was deployed for well over a year. So when he came back home, his fight or flight response just wouldn't quit. Of course, our faith in Jesus and prayer, Bible reading and church are great helps. But I do understand that when someone's nervous system has been overwhelmed, they sometimes need medical help, too.
  21. Maybe you can share about when you had the cat sanctuary?
  22. One of the soldiers in the TV show I saw was prescribed a tremendous amount of drugs by the VA, no good results....then he tried this new treatment and got relief in one day! He wished his friend who committed suicide could have known about the new treatment. Thank you for your service....my uncle served in Viet Nam, too. Apparently the new treatment helps depression, too. One soldier couldn't help smiling and his family noticed the good change in him, too. The soldiers in the TV show said they didn't have side effects. I didn't read up on it but according to the soldiers in the TV program, they had no side effects. They felt the treatment made them feel normal and able to respond to other help as well.
  23. As long as you are sincere in asking for forgiveness from God....yes. Of course, believe on the Lord as your Savior, too. I notice you have asked this same question other times in two other topics.... ??
  24. Was watching 20/20 and they told of a new treatment for PTSD which actually works, and works immediately! It is called SGB for short. An injection is given in the neck. The substance helps to calm the fight or flight response which is out of control due to the severe trauma experienced by those with PTSD. Soldiers were interviewed after their treatment and felt they finally had their life back. The injections can last up to six months. If you know of any PTSD sufferers that are veterans, tell them to ask the VA hospital about this new treatment.
