It might. I'm assuming you have a desperate cable for sound if your using the motherboard sound card. See your video card also has a sound card (for using HDMI) now if your hardware is setup to use analog sound (motherboard) but you accidently enabled the video card sound, it will override your motherboards sound causing it not to work, and if you aren't using the HDMI cable that sound wont work either. There is an option in the nvidia control panel to fix this, but I'm not familiar enough with it to know where it is. Perhaps mcgyver is familiar with it, otherwise I'll look it up when I get home from church (I'm on my phone right now)

alright, go to run, type in msconfig and hit enter. From there locate the startup tab. There should be a list of programs (these are called registry keys) locate the keys NvCpl and nwiz. uncheck them, press apply and save, and reboot, and see what happens. Sometimes, if you do not completly uninstall the old drivers before updating the new ones, it causes conflicts and issues like this. This is just a shot in the dark. If it doesnt work, you should be able to go back into msconfig, and recheck the boxes.

after reading through the thread, I think mcgyver is on the right track with the video card, it seems to be a hardware related issue, probably pertaining to your video card. I would go ahead and run chkdsk like suggest, and it would not hurt to download and run memtest86+ scroll down and download the pre compiled bootable ISO and burn that to DVD, then put into the DVD drive of the computer in question, and let run for a few hours, perhaps overnight, to rule out both the hard disc, and the memory. After it is done running, if it reads 0 errors, your memory is fine-if it reads any errors at all, its time for new memory. If its the video card, which I suspect it is, don't worry you can usually find them decently cheap, however, you got to be careful which ones you buy-something like this should work for your system. theyre easy to replace, but lets see if we can eliminate the hard drive (chkdsk) and memory (memtest86+) first just to be on the safe side. @ bopeep, check your inbox-you should have the solution to your problem there. I have a phobia with bees, wasps and any stinging insect. I also freak out over snakes. If I know the snakes there and non venomous I'm ok but if one pops up out of nowhere you will see a grown man screaming like a girl and running away, even if its just a bull snake or something lol.

OK sorry all just now came upon this topic I've been busy. Trying the chkdsk is a really good idea, if it doesn't work I have a few more things we can try. Just might have to give me time I am out of town at work right now and posting on my smartphone isn't always the easiest.

God put humans on a higher playing field then animals. We have dominion over them, they do not have a soul and don't go to heaven or hell no matter how much we want them to. I've got nothing against putting an animal down. If the animal is in so much pain it cannot function, in fact to me is akin to beating the animal. I love my dog-but if and when he gets to that point I will likely put him down myself. I'd rather be the one to do it then a vet in a cold lonely room. As far as humans go we have a soul we can go to heaven or hell and the bible commands us to preserve life at all costs. So naturally I am against human euthanasia and all forms of abortion. Its murder, pure and simple.
