  1. 2 a man to whom God gives wealth, possessions, and honor, so that he lacks nothing of all that he desires, yet God does not give him power to enjoy them, but a stranger enjoys them. This is vanity; it is a grievous evil.
  2. 20 For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.
  3. So sorry for your loss brother, keeping you and your family in prayer.
  4. Sure, I know some people who excel at pushing buttons. Some thrive on it, just to get a reaction. Will pray for you (that you can absorb it and respond correctly) and for them (that they learn to not be an annoyance or derive pleasure from irritating others). God bless
  5. I am unfamiliar with the content, but if brutalheart summarized things correctly as to what it represents, I would not want anything to do with it myself.
  6. 18 Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot.
  7. You may be exposing yourself to these spiritual attacks in some way, perhaps there is a conviction you are not addressing personally. Often times our guilt comes from knowing that we are being disobedient in some manner, and the enemy is an opportunist that loves to chip away at our faith. Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. If you are questioning your standing with Him, then your faith has been shaken by something, or you have become stagnant in your pursuit of righteousness. Sometimes we all need a wake up call, so maybe some time in prayer would help with clarification. Understand I am not leveling an accusation, just sharing what was put upon my heart to share for your consideration. God bless
  8. 15 As he came from his mother's womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.
  9. It would not. The why is because Jesus laid down His life for all, not one or two, or even a hundred. The other difference is because Jesus is blameless, whereas the rest of us are not. We all deserve death, He did not. God bless
  10. Has he converted to something else, or just fallen away from Christianity? I think this makes a difference as to advice. If he is just choosing to not participate, you can still raise your kids up in church, but if he has taken up an alternative belief, then a tug of war could ensue.
  11. 13 There is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt,
  12. 11 When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?
  13. 8 If you see in a province the oppression of the poor and the violation of justice and righteousness, do not be amazed at the matter, for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them.
  14. 4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.
  15. I think everyone gets so focused on the legs part, the rest is overlooked. Genesis 3:14 The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Could it be that the phrase on your belly you shall go is figurative, and not literal? For example, the expression, cut the legs out from under you. The reason I bring this to attention is the part I bolded and underlined. What snake eats dust? All the ones I know of eat insects, mice, or larger living things based on their size and capability. Verse 15 is interesting, enmity between the serpent and the woman. And in regards to her offspring, "He shall bruise your head." I don't believe this is meant literally. I also think it is important to note what else is said in scripture specifically in regards to satan. II Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. He has to disguise himself as an angel of light, which indicates that is not what his actual physical appearance is. God bless
  16. 3 For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words.
  17. Job 41 should clarify that question, also keeping in mind that he is later described as a dragon. And this passage from Isaiah speaks volumes. Isaiah 27 In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.
  18. Ecclesiastes 5 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. To draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil.
  19. 15 I saw all the living who move about under the sun, along with that youth who was to stand in the king's place.
  20. Glad you joined in, and thanks for posting that from Hebrews which I was referring to before. I guess that is the question, what did Enoch have faith in, and/or is it possible to have that kind of faith without the Holy Spirit? I mean it would appear that in order to have been taken, he must have had the Holy Spirit, in order to agree with all of scripture. Romans 8:7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
  21. I agree with you in regards to the captives, and I also agree it applied to all of them. I am not trying to be argumentative, this just to me is a very interesting topic. I have heard the distinction made before, and while I certainly agree there is a difference following the advent of Jesus, I still do not see the difference between someone being filled with the Holy Spirit between the Old and New Testaments. I do see this distinction on the numerous examples where it is said the Holy Spirit came upon them, but being filled with or having Him abide in one seems different to me for a reason. In regards to Joshua, scripture says the Holy Spirit was in him prior to him being handed the mantle, so to speak. I also am curious, what you would say in regards to Enoch, who pleased God so much that God took him. Is that possible for someone without the Holy Spirit? Or isn't that somehow equating Enoch's ability to one of works, rather than that of faith which Hebrews attributes to him? I guess the reason Enoch stands out is, how could he have pleased God without the Holy Spirit, when people today who are filled with the Holy Spirit do not please God as much to be taken before death? Again, not asking to be argumentative, but because I think this is a great discussion. God bless
  22. I think the difference is that God poured His Spirit out after Pentecost. In the Old Testament times God was more selective in regards to who was filled with the Holy Spirit, and whom the Spirit came upon. That is what the examples I posted indicate to me, that there was a difference before. In regards to the question you asked Wayne about the captives, they were captive until Jesus was risen. He could not lead them out of captivity until after He was resurrected.
  23. I am not sure about this, there is a distinction found even in the Old Testament? Genesis 6:3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” Exodus 31 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, Numbers 14:24 But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it. Numbers 27:18 So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him." Psalm 51:11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

  25. I think any time there is a refusal to communicate, it is a sign of serious issues. How does one commit to another when there is no communication? Also, it is not clear in your OP if this is a real life relationship, or an online one? It sounds like from what you are saying that this is a long distance relationship, and I can say from experience that often in those situations nothing is as it seems.
