Almost forgot Larry I know who Calvin is and I know who Matthew Henry is but if you don't mind my asking who in the world is Gill? I could always use commentary from great Christians. Really enjoy the reference to I Chronicles 4:31.

Thanks Shiloh we our of the same mind on Simeon inheritance I believe that Joshua 19:9 states that Simeon inheriitance was in Judah's inheritance. But that is neither here nor there. Appreciate the verses Larry, you gave me some good things to think on. Nebula thanks for your comments. Shoulditbe appreciate your thoughts too but I think you misunderstood the question I was asking about the Kingdom of Israel which split up after the death of King Solomon. I believe you were referring to the position of the tribes in the camp as the children of Israel were in the wilderness marching to the Promise Land (Numbers 2). Anitarose I most definitely appreciate your answer stuck to the main question instead of going on the wild goose chase I may have started. But do you have proof that the tribe of Simeon was in the north and if so please share cause I still THINK I repeat THINK Simeon was in the Kingdom of Judah, don't have any solid facts or evidence. Looking at Joshua 18, we see that Benjamin's lot fell between Judah and Joseph. The second lot did fall to Simeon (I do stand corrected). His lot was within Judah's borders, but it was because Judah wasn't big enough to fill his entire claim. A footnote in the Amplified Bible in Genesis 49:7 states that Simeon originally received only a few towns and villages in Judah's lot (the reason being that the portion alloted to Judah was too big), but Simeon outgrew these towns and villages and formed colonies in districts which they took from the Idumeans and Amalekites. (the last phrase a direct quote from the Amplified Bible).

So yes, I do stand corrected. Originally, Simeon was part of Judah. More than likely absorbed like Benjamin. However, due to the inclusion of Ephraim and Manasseh, there were still 10 tribes in Northern Israel. Ephraim and Manasseh were supposed to be half-tribes making up the house of Joseph, but because they had been adopted by Jacob (see Genesis 48:16) they were given full shares of Israel.

Hope that explains everything---it was fun trying to research it!
