I don't think I agree with you. What I really don't understand is your concept of acceleration.

Acceleration is the covariant derivative of the 4-velocity quadrivector on proper time. This is a covariant object, that is, it does not depend on the observer and her state of motion. Either you accelerate or you don't; it does not make any sense to say that I accelerate relative to the earth and the earth accelerates relative to me.

This object measures the rate of deviation from the local geodesics in space time, and it is always zero in free fall. In other words, even if you are falling into a 2 billions solar masses black hole, your acceleration will be zero, and this is what all other observers agree upon.

You're right. I was thinking of something totally different from Newtonian physics (where free fall is the acceleration due to gravity alone, accelerating frames...) and as a result was badly mistaken... anyway, I am humbled, and glad no one I knows reads my junk here

Well, since this thread is about relativity, it is possible that your junk is my treasure and your treasure is my junk. IOW, treasures and junks are not covariant but depend on the observer.

Because timespace is curved near a massive object like the earth. All you are doing is following the geometry of time space, that means, the shortest path between two close points. These paths are called geodesics and in your case they point towards the center of the earth. Only when you deviate from this natural path you feel a force (a bit like feeling a force when you drive a car and take a sudden turn from the natural straigth line). Staying on the surface of the earth forces you to deviate from this natural path and that is why you experience a force. Your body "wants" to go toward the center of the earth but it can't.

Misrepresenting the concepts behind general relativity is junk... and actually, that is a covariant measure.

And why mass would cause 3-D space and time to bend.

The only thing about time as a dimension that I can understand is how our view of the universe is under time-distortion - things are not now as and where we see them to be.
