As I was reading scripture this morning, I read the verse below. At that point, I paused to meditate on the meaning of this verse and how it would apply to my life. So often, when I am busy, I rely on His leading and rightfully so. Yet, I asked myself, when do I slow down enough to examine myself deeper then just the surface. Embarrassingly. my answer was not often enough.

I encourage all who are in Christ to take the time to do so. Allow His Spirit to instruct you, to reprove you, to show you who you really are. Humility in this process will go far as we are not always who we think we are.

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.

Very good point Onelight. That is a scary thing to do. To closely examin your inner self. Can we handle the truth. LOL

I do not understand. How do I do this? :emot-handshake:

Hi Gauntlet,

This is a very good question to ask, but one that is hard to answer, for there is no one special way to do this.

For a really deep search, I do this during a time when I will not be disturbed by anything. Most of the time, it is either alone in my room or sitting in a quiet, solitude place in the surrounding woods and fields. It has to be a place where nobody will interrupt me, during a time when I don't have to be anywhere soon. I also can quickly do this in the spur of the moment while I am about to give a reply to someone or a response to something that has happened.

When I am doing a quick examination, which I had call examining the surface, it usually pertains to how I respond, what I say in response and if it is of my flesh or the Lord.

When I dig deeper into myself, the Holy Spirit usually is in control, showing me who I am. I do not stop the process or hinder His moving in my spirit and mind. I have to be surrendered to His will as much as humanly possible. Usually, He brings scripture back so I can compare who I truly am to them. This shows me where I have fallen in certain circumstances. An couple of examples of scripture are ...

What is bad.

Examples of the flesh:

Galatians 5:19-21a (New King James Version)

Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like

2 Timothy 3:2-5 (New King James Version)

For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

What is good.

Life in the Spirit:

Galatians 5:22-23a

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Am I living up to these two commandments?

Mark 12:29-31 (New King James Version)

Jesus answered him,

Psalm 139:23-24

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24 See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.

Well Onelight, you know with our recent chat discussions that I have confessed that I need some cleaning up to do on my own self.

That all depends on what you call Christian Meditation. I call it examining myself.
