I think their discussion is way over my head. I believe God created everything is the time frame of Genesis 1, but I also believe that since then, His creation has evolved by cross breeding. Simple, but what I believe.

but why? it just doesn't make sense to me that God would just plant some primordial ooze and add in some noxious gases , whirl things around violently and wait to see what happened. what's the point.

the only possible way old earth theory works if there is a gap between gen 1 and 2, the gap theory, i guess it's called. even then, nothing was alive on the earth so it explains only sedimentary layers. there is no way to get around the fact that death did not exist until the fall. therefore, animals and people at the same time. i don't see how that can be questioned at all.

if we could admit there are things we don't know yet, this would solve a lot.

If we could also admit that there are things we can't know, we'd avoid bickering and hair-splitting issues like these.

I think it is all very interesting. But in the end the center of our faith revovles around a man rising from the dead who was and is also God. Science is not going to get us very far.

Ah - but those of us who are Christians in the science field do have to deal with this issue.

Amen, but we shouldn't let it become a family issue. :emot-handshake:

It's a bit out of my league too, but I did read the following by Francis Collins "feels that intelligent design poses a serious problem to Christian belief because it rejects Darwinian evolution, which he feels is supported by overwhelming evidence."

Collins claims to be an Evangelical Christian yet supports Darwinism. Sorry, but you can't have it both ways. Either God created everything or He didn't.

Yes I know there is evolution WITHIN a species, but there is NO evidence for macro-evolution which is the whole of the Darwin Theory, so there is the rub. We did not evolve from some goo. Genesis clearly states otherwise.

I guess it really comes down to "hath God said?" and well, yeah, He did.
