Sorry Botz!! I just went back and re-read. I see where you put the dictionary definition of 'geez'. YIKES! Who knew that would even be in the dictionary? I'm gonna work on that one.

Hmm. I thought Botz added the "alteration of..." parts himself after the definitions (Sorry, Botz!). I just went to dictionary.reference.com and sure enough those parts are there. I was curious so I also looked up "gosh" and this is what it said:

gosh

interj.

Used to express mild surprise or delight.

[Alteration of God.]

Guess that one is definitely off the list too... :x:

I am going to just start copying Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter and say "woo hoo" and raise my arm in the air. That way I won't be taking God's name in vain! :)

i say the word 'luck' all the time, and have never once conjured up an image of lucifer!

nor have the words geez or sheesh ever conjured up images in my mind of the Lord.

i guess if God ever convicts me for saying 'good luck', or saying 'geez', i'll quit using them.

I just never say it because there is no such thing as luck. Not because I am afraid of the devil. :)

i think this is where i stand on this issue. i think one must intend to take the Lords name in vain. its a heart issue, not necessarily a definition issue. i dont think we need to culturally define every piece of verbage we use in fear that we could be sinning w/o knowing it. again, God is concerned w/ our hearts intent. imo

Great attitude Willow...perhaps He is doing so now.

I have by no means 'arrived' or am the authority or be all and end all of discernment, but I can say when I am saying something even bordline unacceptable, the Holy Spirit checks me but good!!! Many times I thought things I was saying wouldn't be interpreted in any way as bad, but God has shown me otherwise. So he does this all the time and I listen. I did once take the Lord's name in vain when I was 14. I remember where I was and how I felt and what I did afterwards. I felt aweful. And I never wanted to say that again - in any form.

So I would say no Botz, perhaps He is not doing so now, because He always has and is continuing. I don't see the same as you do on all these points - however I see you making valid points. I agree to disagree and also will try not to use words like the ones mentioned in areas we both are in to avoid offending. If I do, please know I will understand if you say....hey um watch it, and please know that I do not seek to offend you or God. Like I said, this particular view of this is not a conviction deep in my heart, therefore it may slip out from time to time.

I will do my best not to offend. :D

starts singing " Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow "

wanna know something crazy?? I know we are to praise God in all situations, but funny and oddly enough, this would offend me more! This is almost sarcastic. Oh I know he may not have said it that way, with any kind of sarcastic tone or intent, but that is what something like this strikes me as. ;):P

Maybe we all just need to get a little more creative.......

Is ouch a derivative of anything bad? what about or how about hitting your head on the car door frame and yelling "Are you kidding me?" :)

**So here is an idea - let's come up with and post as many creative ways of expressing oneself in various situations to help each other not use words that offend. Since there will always be something in some culture, and we have many represented here, lets try to help each other out!

Wadya say?**

Stub your toe and yell YEHAW! YEHAW = Yup, expect hurt and whining. :P

A word I've been in the sorry habit of saying is "crap".

One of the ways that I knew I had been born again was that my mouth stopped cussing. It also felt like being hit with hot arrows whenever I heard the Lord's name being used as a curse word.

I grew up in two different worlds. Mammy, my dad's mom, was a heathen and could make a sailor blush. Nana, my mom's mom, drug me to church every week and would freak out if I would say something like gosh, darn or heck (oh my goodness wasn't allowed either).

I don't know if the words are that important or not, but I know that my Mammy and my Nana both loved me. The only difference is that I felt like my Nana's love was conditional.

When I read the command: "thou shalt not take My name in vain", I think that it means alot more than the words we speak. To me the command means that if I'm going to "take" the name of the Lord, that is call myself a Christian, then I should live my life worthy of the name of Christ.

Oooow Willow you make me sound like some religious do-gooder who is looking for offence at any opportunity...my comment to you was a gentle dig...and I admired your heart attitude. I understand if you or others disagree with my observation although it baffles me slightly when the definition is so clear cut and even the words sound like they obviously derive from the L-rds name. If you were my daughter  ..I would advise you and leave the rest up to your conscience.

I am glad you are sensitive to the Holy Ghost...it is surprising how many different ways He can get our attention.

1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Lady C...

I guess if God ever convicts me for saying 'good luck', or saying 'geez', i'll quit using them

Hows He going to do that...send you a personal hand written message!.... (please don't hit me  )

Sometimes some of us would need a Holy Ghost steamroller to roll over us before we realized G-d was trying to convict us of anything.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
