"If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. ......" (Luke 6:29)

It sems to be impossible for me. I would choose to run after getting one rather than turning other cheek or strike back. In the middle of the quarrel, if someone give me the first strike, I would definetly strike him back. :):wub: lol

Ok, I went through the verse. Found myself to be questioning, "Why would someone strike on my cheek? What would be the condition for that?"

If I have really done damage, harm or have committed crime against someone and still the victim can't get justice for that or simply I am so strong that the victim is so hopeless and helpless. Now, what would that victim do? Surely the desperate victim would at least strike on my cheek if he get chance to.

Now what happens if I am not that old criminal anymore and knows Lord Jesus and repents before him for sins committed and that desperate victim strikes me on my cheek? Now I would turn other cheek to him and even compensate for the loss done.

It seems like it is possible for me now. lol

I remember once G. Bush got two shoes thrown at him by Iraqi Journalist during news conference. :24::emot-questioned::emot-questioned: Nothing to do with it ! Stupid ! lol lol lol :teeth_smile:

It is consider a great insult to slap someone on the cheek. It is more of the insult to the manhood then anything else.

Can you explain? From what I have learned, an open handed slap is an insult, especially if done with the wrong hand.

I've always looked at that verse to mean, don't answer violence with violence.

A good example would be what happened to Christ just before His crucifixion.

If you notice, Jesus actually said, "If someone strikes you on the right cheek...."

The only way a person can be slapped on the right cheek is if the other person uses their left hand or strikes them with the back of their right hand.

In that culture, to be struck in such a way was a demeaning insult.

The closest equivalent for today I can think of would be if someone gave you the finger.

The real implication is that if someone being jerk, don't be a jerk back.

"man" ! Reading your comment, "confusedpiece" thought even more.

In conclusion, he thinks that the verse (Luke 6:29) isn't that easy like what he thought in his earlier post.

He remembers the verse he has been quoting recently in the chat room which he thought he liked it. Here it goes....

"But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God." (1 Peter 2:20)
