Grace to you,

The Lord was attacking the practice of the Jew that called the Rabbi's, "Our Fathers." Masters of their Faith, when really God wants to have a relationship with each and every believer.

There is cause to honor those who have walked and are walking in the Faith, yet these men preferred and even loved the practice. They Loved the seats of honor and held it over men. They lengthened their Phylacteries. :emot-wave:

They turned the House of the Lord into a merchandise den. :) A den of thieves where mens very souls were stolen.

Religion is a tricky business.

Peace,

Dave

Too add to that, I really hated calling the priests at Church "Father" growing up.. I was always thinking "you are not my father". It brought up a lot of resentment because sometimes we were ordered to call them that.

1(A)Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples,

2saying: "(B)The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses;

3therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them.

4"©They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger.

5"But they do all their deeds (D)to be noticed by men; for they (E)broaden their [a]phylacteries and lengthen (F)the tassels of their garments.

6"They (G)love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues,

7and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called (H)Rabbi by men.

8"But (I)do not be called (J)Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers.

9"Do not call anyone on earth your father; for (K)One is your Father, He who is in heaven.

10"Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ.

11"(L)But the greatest among you shall be your servant.

12"(M)Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.

It's prophetic if you ask me. Considering how many Christians still call other men "father" and "Holy Father" and so on. But Jesus explicitly says "you are all brothers". We often speak of spiritual maturity as though some people are more holy or spiritually superior to others. According to what Jesus is saying here we are all loved equally and none is more valuable or important to him than another. I'm sure if you were in the presence of any of the first apostles they would not in any way act superior to you. This is why Jesus washed their feet and commanded them to do the same.

The Word "father" means "life giver." Spiritually speaking, only the Lord is our father.

Hi,

We have a earthly family who guides and teaches us from birth we both have a earthly mother and father and these titles are correct to use when addressing them in any circumstance. Our earthly father corrects us when we are in the wrong for our on good if we are blessed with a good dad.

We also have a spiritual family in heaven in the which we have access to the heavenly Father through his only begotten Son whose shed blood on the cross reconciled us back to right relationship with God our Father (2 Corinthians 5). Within the family of God it is the Heavenly Father whom provides for us his children (Matthew 6) all we have to do is seek his righteousness and the things that we are in need of will be added to us as our Father will meet our needs (Matthew 6:33). Our Heavenly Father is our teacher in spiritual matters and our provider of the things we have need of and he will correct us when we are out of line in our walk with him.

There is scripture that shows the comparison of our earthly father with our Heavenly Father in light of correction or chastisement from our earthly father and the chastisement from our Heavenly Father.

[Hebrews 12:5-11]--And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: vs 6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. vs 7) If you endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? vs 8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons vs 9) Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? vs 10) For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. vs 11) Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievious: nevertheless afterward it yeildeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

We are not to call and teacher on the earth teacher as exalting them above the teachings of our Heavenly Father. We also are not to call our spiritual leaders Father and exalt them above our Heavenly Father who corrects us for our good but our earthly fathers corrects us after their pleasure. It is God alone who teaches his own children whom have been born into the family of God. It is God alone that provides for us leads and guides his children whom is in the household of God. (Matthew 3:21)

Hello I believe with all of my heart that we only have one Father and that is Almighty GOD our heavenly father; I also believe Dad or Pop are acceptable; And yes we all should know who our father is...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
