-1- Thanks.  But I really don't have any guns to stick to here. Just looking for an answer with a consistent rule of interpretation

STEVE---DO NOT -INTERPRET---READ--UNDERSTAND---ACCEPT---WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO TRY TO INTERPRET SOMETHING THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN INTERPRETED BY THE AUTHOR-????---THE HOLY-SPIRIT-HAS ALREADY STATED HE HAS INTERPRETED HIS WORD FOR YOU------

-2nd Peter 1:vss.19-20-21

-We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Shadow2b,

I have had many a conversation with our brothers in the Cessationist Camp over this. Ecspecially the ministers. I always ask them when they heard the call into the ministry. As soon as they acknowledge the hearing of the call, I ask them how they heard that calling. Western Telegram? Phone Call from Billy Graham? Or did the Holy Spirit lay it on your heart? And that is what we call "Prophetic!"

"My sheep hear my voice." I believe that they do, but out of theological fear, are afraid to acknowledge it. It has been my pleasure to see some of them come to the realization that God still does the stuff.

My favorite story about this is when a brother in Christ sat me down in a local coffee shop to rebuke me for my involvement with the Toronto Blessing. He went down the list of the errors in the movement. Some he might have even been right about. He was a cessationist, and this stuff wasn't allowed.

I shared with him the fruit that I had seen in my ministry since the TB movement, and he just scoffed. This man is one of the top artist in the Chicano community. His stuff has shown next to major names in Europe and Mexico City. His mind though artistic was also ruled by his UCLA training in Philosophy where he was Valedictorian. He could not fathom the idea of God moving like that. It was demonic to him. We agreed to disagree.

The next day he was ministering in the park preaching his normal sermon. 25 people gathered around him listening. But this time God showed up, and may I add, quite to his consternation. People fell down. People began to experience uncontrollable laughter. People shook uncontrollably.

Now he was faced with one of two conclusions. He was of the devil, or this was God.

"Catch the Fire" did an article on my brother about a year later right after he spoke at Toronto on God and the arts. He was swamped in the movement. His work on worship is extraordinary. And he is a laughing fool. :x:

-With the completion of the Canon and unification of Jews and Gentiles in One Body many of the gifts ended. This is the testimony of the Scriptures and of history.

-Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God

-UNLESS:

There's some reasonable scriptural reason why we shouldn't.

I've asked this question to Pentecostal and Charismatic people for the past 20 years, and to date no one has even attempted to explain this for me.

Can you help?

-THE scripture states "they shall take up serpents & not be hurt{paraphrased--right}THE only example of this is where Paul got some wood for a fire a snake Jumped out bit Pasul & HE shook the snake off INTO the fire--was Paul hurt? can you find in--any of the scriptures where PAUL--Deliberately went out picked up a snake & made it bite him or let it bite him deliberately???NO YOU CAN'T!!!!--IS there ANY scripture where "Someone" deliberately drank POISON??NO THERE IS NO SCRIPTURE for that--other than JESUS STATED-IF THAT SHOULD happen HIS Disciple would NOT be hurt!!!-"That" is called FAITH--Steve--FAITH--IN-ACTION------

-I just EXPLained IT STEVE IF YOU'RE intelligent enought to ACCEPT IT!!!!

-DON'T BE ABSURD--steve-:t2: :oww: :oww:  :sweating: :suspect:

-=WE USE THE ENTIRE BIBLE STEVE--you just don't want your little--scriptural-safety-zone to be invaded----you might actually have to think about the reality of GOD'S WORD----YOU might have to admit you don't actually KNOW every single thing in GOD'S WORD...........

Thank you all for the insightful responses. I have read and meditated on all that has been said - I really like the objectivity, sometimes agreeing to disagree. One thing I have to say is we cannot afford to ignore the place of the gospel's relevance to our generation: meaning for it to attract the people we are sent to minister to, it will have to provide solutions to their needs. This is the reason I believe Paul said, "1Co 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power". Now this is the power of God that enables the believer to overcome his human limitations and minister life to the dieing world. In view of this I really do not have a doubt to the need and reality of the gifts of the Spirit in the Church today. I would just like to reorient this discussion to my original question by maybe rephrasing it.

"What is the difference between the prophet in the old testament from the one in the new testament and how should the saints submit to his authority?"

Thank you all once again.

"What is the difference between the prophet in the old testament from the one in the new testament and how should the saints submit to his authority?"

Prophets in the New Testament operate heavily in the gifts of prophecy (obviously), word of knowledge and word of wisdom.

Today's prophets are to be held to the same standard that Old Testament prophets were held to, namely 100% accuracy.

As far as submitting to their authority is concerned, I think it best to remind you of what Nebula said:

Well, I would guess the simple answer is:

1 John 4:1

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 Corinthians 14:29

Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.

Because we have the Holy Spirit inside of us, we need to learn to recognize HIs voice and leading for ourselves. That said, He does still speak through prophets, but we need to "test" them - to be sure they are prophets of God. And we need to seek confirmation of the words of prophecy we receive.

Then when you have assurance it is of the Lord, follow through!

The above quote was attributed to nebula, although I can't seem to locate the original post.

I think you've just given me yet another reason to question the need for modern-day prophets.

Oh well, thanks guys for trying. I just might never get it.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
