So individuals have not suffered, died, and struggled through life as a result of God allowing human beings to have free will? Why not just create people perfect without the ability to sin?

We're talking evolution here, Lurker, not free will or the fall. You know the 'ape to man' thing that never happened?

What were their souls carried gently to heaven as God put them all to sleep? How exactly would this not be considered a "dead end"?

Of course not; they weren't human and they didn't have souls. Who said it wasn't a dead end? It surely was...for homanids.

Lurker, Im a bit confused. Correct me if im wrong, but is your stance that there is a God, but evolution is the mechanism he uses to create life?

And if this is the case, where do you get your source of truth from, the Bible, or something else?

No, evolution is the mechanism through which the diversity of life was created. How the order of the creation of life itself was carried out is still in debate, it's certainly possible that God supernaturally intervened to form the first single-celled organisms, it's also possible that he created a universe ordered so that the chemical evolution of life was pre-determined. I get my sources of truth from the Bible and from observing creation, after all if God is the author of both and God is a god of truth then the stories in both should be true since two truths cannot contradict each other.

Then how do you choose what in the Bible you take as truth, and what is just a story. The book of Genesis and evolution would clash with one another. One problem I have in this is that the book of Genesis tells us about the fall of man, about Adam and Eve. This is the very reason Jesus came to save us. The New Testament references Genesis several times, not to mention Jesus does.

I guess my question is, if you can throw out the story of creation as not being true, then how can you believe anything else in the scripture?
