This is simply your opinion, not gospel. It says no where in the Bible that Gambling is a sin.

However playing a game of chance to kill time is not bad.

but when you get hooked and start trying to win, and chase your losses when it becomes sinful.

I have done both, and quite recently did that very thing. went overboard. See the danger came for us when, we under financial stress tried to win money to get ahead on bills. Bad plan.

We have prayed about it and decided to withhold from even playing a dollar for fun as that is what got us hooked when we won big, this Idea of winning big all the time got into our heads, even though we know better.

We are not going to play until we no longer have any debt or financial stress. then we can play fun money and have fun. Therefore play and not gamble I hope you see the difference.

Well It Does Say

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 1 Timothy 5:8

Some Won't

The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour. He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not. Proverbs 21:25-26

Some Do

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

1 Timothy 6:6-11

Some Will

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

And Some Just Butt Out

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 1 Thessalonians 4:11

I think you nailed it - the root of money- It is good to have money and have the ability to put it to GOOD use . In this case it is going into the hands of possible crime and what does it gain you - Loss. Casinos are not in the market to LOOSE money

they are there to make money - our money. While on a cruise I tried a slot machine and though I won some nickels or dimes I walked away feeling STUPID for loosing my $2 that I could have used to buy something that I could show someone. Yes you may win but one always thinks just one more and maybe. The some with the PCH Sweepstakes - what are the REAL chances of winning??

It all comes down to greed and the ones that need the money the most are the ones that play and pay with what they need.

LOL I know this is an old thread but I just had to ask. Bingo is gambling (many Churches do it), so is Bingo a sin?

Where In The Bible Does It Say Gambling Is A Sin?

I've tried to find where in the Bible it says Gambling is a sin and I haven't had much luck. Even doing a word search I never found the word Gamble anywhere in the whole KJV Bible. I've heard that gambling is a sin. Can anyone tell me where in scripture it shows this.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks,

Zotah

Those who hung Him on the Cross and made sure He died there as well gambled for His clothes! Do you think The Father of the Son thought this to be a good thing? Love Steven

This was a fulfillment of Messianic prophecy, Not a statement against gambling.

Now saying that, I don't believe playing a game of chance is "Gambling" Trying to win by betting is. I have done both. The gambling was sinful to me, as I was playing in a panic, scared about money, and hoping to win just enough to get me out of a hole. My sin was not Trusting Jesus for everything. My sin was not playing a game, but the way I played it. Just like overeating for comfort, just like any other sin of excess, using this to try to sooth my fears was the wrong thing.

I have also taken a dollar, sat down on a penny poker machine and had fun killing a few hours.

The game I played, I do find fun and have played it on an ipod, game version of it that did not use real money. I had a blast playing it for fun not spending any money.

I haven't gambled in years, but used to occassionally play nickle poker when I was laid over in Nevada. I would generally play $5 and do it one nickle at a time. It was just something to do for entertainment as I had limited choices being there with a tractor-trailer truck. I don't see any difference in doing that as opposed to spending $5 on a dvd, going bowling, playing putt putt golf, going to a movie, eating out when you could eat much cheaper at home, etc. The problems arise when you are gambling for the purpose of getting rich quick. Very few people get rich through gambling.

The entire system is set up to allow you to win a small amount here and there while gradually taking your money. They make the machines loud when they pay off, and you think the person next to you is winning a lot of money. What you don't know is that they often times blew $50 to win a $25 jackpot. Playing for small change allowed me the opportunity to observe what was taking place around me. The people that have a problem are those that lose money they couldn't afford to lose and then spend more money trying to win it back. In most cases, they just lose that money too. I have seen people blowing large sums they got from an ATM, conveniently located in the casino. If you don't have self control, it is better not to gamble. Since the Bible never mentions gambling, I don't believe it is a sin.

I used to be a Blackjack dealer. I once took 11,000 dollars off of 2 people in less than 20 minutes. They won 1 hand between the 2 of them, and before it was over, I took that money back too.

I've seen people lose homes, business', even their retirement. I quit after about 3 years. I couldn't be a part of it anymore. For me, I looked at it as stealing.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
