"The Simpsons" will have gay wedding episode

The Simpsons creator Matt Groenig reportedly said one of the U.S. animated series' characters will come out of the closet for the show's first gay wedding.

Groenig let the news slip at the San Diego Comic Convention in Southern California, but would not disclose which character will be featured in the episode, the New York Post said Tuesday.

Speculation as to the outed character ranges from Waylon Smithers, the timid aide to evil nuclear-power tycoon Montgomery Burns, who has harbored an obvious affection for his aging boss, to one of Marge Simpson's chain-smoking sisters, Selma or Patty, who, although married several times, typically scorn men.

During the wedding episode, Homer reportedly becomes an ordained minister over the Internet and begins performing gay marriages.

Well, this isn't good. Even though I dont watch the Simpsons, this is just getting out of control. First we have lesbian shows, and now they are turning to cartoons? I mean, any child could turn on the television, and see that stuff. This is going too far.

I wonder what the angle would be? The show is filled with social issues and it'll be interesting to see which side of this issue it will support.

I'm surprised to see anyone on a Christian board saying they like it and watch it. It's never been watched in my house either Jamie. When it first came out, my boys wanted to watch, so I 'screened' it. This bart brat ( a child) gave his mother a gift, she didn't like it, he slaps her and yells "What the H*LL is wrong with you?". That was enough for me. Trash. Why on earth would I put my kids in front of something like that to laugh at when they'd be punished for the same behavior?? And my husband and I don't care for our intelligence being insulted with the canned laughter and what we are supposed to think is hilarious on these shows. Just our opinion though.

Ted, please don't apologize. Just stating my opinion. I was surprised. Sometimes when we read someone else's words, we take it as a condemnation of our actions. It's natural. If I play the lottery, and you give your opinion in a thread about how awful the lottery is and no Christian has any business in it, I'd feel like I was put down. It's a natural reaction. But you wouldn't be putting me down- you are just stating your strong opinion. Likewise, I didn't mean to put you down.

And, as Jamie said - there are things in my life that I am sure you would raise an eyebrow at. We bear with each other.

If someone is worried about their children seeing something risque then they really shouldn't be watching this show in the first place IMHO.

I wouldn't be worried at all about my own children watching it. I DO have control over what they watch so I'd just shut if off. It's all those other kids and youth whose parents just don't care if this stuff is on or not.
