A question here is raised by me as to what kind of a military man was Kerry?

I've been in since 1987 and have seen my share of officers put in a command slot and how they carry out there duties. I am not a military history expert, though, so I will give illustrations mostly from my own history.

Serving in the military is not the question. John Kerry served and went to Vietnam. That much is fact. (in case you haven't heard yet :t2: )

But what was he like as a leader. That is what should be looked at. He made it subject to public debate by cramming it down our throats every time he speaks. His center point of his campaign hindges on his leadership in vietnam.

In the military, leaders are as about alike as finger prints. Each one has his/her own way to do things based on the implied duties connected to their position, military law, personality, and a host of other things. Though every human is different, it seems like, to me, most of these officers fall into a few basic types.

1. One type is a born leader do to their caring nature. They love the military and the troops that make it work. They have a sincere love for the developement of their troops and will do all things in a way that will give credit to themselves, and their country.

2. Another type has the desire but not the skills. They try harder than their peers, but usually seem to get the short end of the stick. They love the job and troops, but, well, maybe the military is just not for them. These always seemed to be my favorites as they seemed more human than other types. Having the support of your subordinates goes a long way towards the leader's success.

3. A third type is the glory-seeking, high school jock turned army guy that is out for the uplifting of his/her own name at all costs. They storm into a leadership position thinking they will change the world, only to realize that maybe they were'nt the first one to hold that slot. They could care less about who they stab in the back to get that next promotion. They usually enter a career in the service because no other career field would tolerate their worthlessness for much longer than it took to crush them in the mop closet. Spoiled little kids that got beat up too much in high school and seek jobs of authority so it never happens again.

4. Another type is the rich little insignificant bug that is there only because they figured out that their schooling would be paid for by the ROTC. They suffer their way through 8 yrs of military service and then resign their commision at the first chance. No desire to be there and, in turn, the unit suffers.

I've had the pleasure of serving under the best and had to bear through the worst. Just last year, while called up and training at Ft. Bragg, our then commanding officer for our battalion, and some of his staff (to include the unit Chaplain!) got drunk and then ran around some female barracks naked with Chem-lites tied to their manhood (boyhood, as described by some of the witnesses). They got busted, he got canned and we finally got someone worth it to lead us in Afganistan.

He was a definite #3. I know in my heart that we would've gotten someone hurt bad had he been over there. Thank God he was found out before it was too late.

From Kerry, I see a combination of #'s 3 and 4.

It's not that hard to see. The number of people that have come foward to set the record straight in recent months is not a trick. He's got a few that will speak on his behalf, but not many.

As for Bush?

Well, what record?

There's nothing there except a few training flights with the National Guard. (aint knocking that, mind you, I switched to the Guard three years ago)

The point here is that Bush isn't running on his military service, Kerry is. He thinks he can shake that 4 months in Vietnam in Bush's face and all of America will fall in behind him.

Bush's service IN the military is not as important to me as his service FOR the military! I would have respected Clinton if he would have apologized to the military and tried to support us in his term. What did we get? "Don't ask, don't tell"! Gays allowed in the military! Thanks, Bill! :t2:

It's the same way for Kerry. I can scan all of his votes over the last 20 years in the Senate and see just how he has supported us. He went to Vietnam to look cool on his resume. He came back and quickly figured out he could look cooler by blasting the war. 30 years later, he's back to being proud of his service again. Why? Because it's the cool thing now to be a military man, isn't it?

It's really not that hard.

Wow....let's look at this again....

February 14, 2004

Dallas, Texas

Dear Senator Kerry,

Since it has become clear that you will probably be the Democratic

nominee for President, I have spent a great deal of time researching your

war record and your record as a professional politician. The reason is

simple, you aspire to be the Commander in Chief who would lead my sons

and their fellow soldiers in time of war. I simply wanted to know if you

possess the necessary qualifications to be trusted in that respect.

You see, I belong to a family of proud U.S. veterans. I was a Captain

in the Army Reserve, my father was a decorated Lieutenant in World War

II; and I have four sons who have either served, or are currently

serving in the military. The oldest is an Army Lieutenant still on active

duty in Afghanistan after already being honored for his service in Iraq.

The youngest is an E-4 with the military police. His National Guard unit

just finished their second tour of active duty, including six months in

Guantanamo Bay. My two other sons have served in the national guard and

the navy.

In looking at your record I found myself comparing it not only to that

of my father and my sons, but to the people they served with. My father

served with the 87th Chemical Mortar Battalion in Europe. They landed

on Utah Beach and fought for 317 straight days including the Cherbourg

Peninsula, Aachen, the Hurtgen Forest, and the Battle of the Bulge.

You earned a Silver Star in Vietnam for chasing down and finishing off

a wounded and retreating enemy soldier. My father won a Bronze Star

for single handedly charging and knocking out a German machine gun nest

that had his men pinned down.

You received three purple hearts for what appears to be three minor

scratches. In fact you only missed a combined total of two days of duty

for these wounds.

The men of my father's unit, the 87th, had to be admonished by their

commanding officer because: "It has been brought to our attention that

some men are covering up wounds and refusing medical attention for fear

of being evacuated and permanently separated from this organization..."

It was also a common problem for seriously wounded soldiers to go AWOL

from hospitals in order to rejoin their units.

You used your three purple hearts to leave Vietnam early. My oldest

boy came home from Iraq with numerous commendations and then proceeded to

volunteer to go to Afghanistan and from there back to Iraq again. My

sons and father have never had anything but the highest regard and

respect for their fellow soldiers.

Yet, you came home to publicly charge your fellow fighting men with

being war criminals and to urge their defeat by the enemy. You even wrote

a book that had a cover which mocked the heroism of the U.S. Marines

who raised the flag on Iwo Jima.

Our current crop of soldiers has a philosophy that no one gets left

behind; and they have practiced that from Somalia to the battlefields of

the Middle East.

Yet as chairman of a Senate committee looking into allegations that

many of your fellow servicemen had been left behind as prisoners in

Vietnam, you chose to defend the brutal Vietnamese regime. You even went so

far as to refer to the families of the POWs and MIAs as Professional

malcontents, conspiracy mongers, con artists, and dime-store Rambos. As

a Senator you voted against the 1991 Gulf War, and have repeatedly

voted against funds to supply our troops with the best equipment, and

against money to improve our intelligence capability.

I find this particularly ironic since as a Presidential candidate you

are highly critical of our pre-war intelligence in Iraq.

However, you did vote to authorize the President to go to war, but have

since proceeded to do everything you can to undermine the efforts of

our government and our troops to win.

Is this what our fighting men and women can expect of you if you are

their Commander in Chief? Will you gladly send them to war, only to then

aid the enemy by undermining the morale of our troops and cutting off

the weapons they need to win?

Our country is at war Senator, and as has been the case in every war

since the American Revolution, a member of my family is serving their

country during the war. Now you want me to trust you to lead my sons in

this fight?

Sorry Senator, but when I compare your record to those who have fought

and died for this nation, and are currently fighting and dying, the

answer is not just no, but Hell No!

Sincerely,

Michael Connelly

From what I gather, Kerry was what is referred to as a "Butterball Lieutenant." Is that right? If so, that means Kerry did not enlist, but went to officer's school right out of college. Most Marines I know can't stand those guys.

 Butter-Bar bro :t2: 2nd Lieutenant insignias are a single gold bar - thus the resemblance of a bar of butter. 2-Liter is anther name we used to call them ( 2 Lt. ).

:t2: sorry....not laughing at you :oww:

God bless,

Bob

Actually, I think Kerry was in the Navy. I might be wrong though.

Army, Air Force and Marine 2 Lt's wear the "Butter bar" but I'm not sure what the Navy's entry rank looks like.

I'd rather see John Kerry re-inacting his time in the service that George Bush re-inacting his. Watching George snort cocaine, slapping the backs of his frat boys and chasing skirts for two hours isn't my idea of meaning entertainment either.

Better Kerry's bio than W's.

Big difference here Bro, Kerry is trying to claim he was a war hero of some sorts while GW makes no such claims. Kerry threw away his medals (dubiously gotten at best) and criticized his country and the war. Even those that served with Kerry say he was a pompous jerk, and caused his own injuries to get a medal, which he later trashed, along with his country.

A navy ensign also wears a single gold bar. -- I liked all the butter bars I remember from the AF.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
