True, but try picturing this from their perspective. We have hindsight, they did not. At this point they were barely coming to understand what "Messiah" really was. Sure they'd seen Him heal and some may have seen the water to wine miracle, but do you truly believe they were thinking, "The Son of God is in the boat with us"? If you were them, would you have been regarding Him as "the Son of God" at this point?

I don't think I would have.

No they wouldn't have - but they knew He wasn't "normal" because they woke Him up -

did they wake Him up for physical help or supernatural help or simply "annoyed" that He was still asleep during the storm?

To be honest, I do not know what they were thinking He could or would do . . . beyond being another pair of hands.

Or even if they thought He might do "some" miracle to save them, it's quite clear they were not expecting . . . THAT!

Today, we still have problems with trust in Him during wild seasons and going from the verse in Matthew, lack of trust isn't a good thing.

I wonder if the faith they should have had during the storm was -

If this is the Messiah of God, then God won't allow Him to die in this storm, and to keep Him saved we all need to be kept safe.

:emot-hug:

**Note, I'm not denying the commentators claims about how they should have had faith, I just disagree with the claims that the disciples should have been thinking, "This is the Son of God." For I don't believe they were quite there yet in their understanding. If anything, I see this miracle as being one of the steps towards their eyes being opened to this.**

Yeah, like ~andy~ said. I just read her post.

He rebuked the elements and their lack of faith. Three things happened in the boat - one was a miracle.

Sorry, I'm missing your train of thought. What was the third?

I dunno about you guys, but I find it easier to trust in the middle of a storm, then I do when life is smooth sailing. During those smooth sailing times, it's so much easier to rely on my own strength. In the storm... God has stripped away all my own works, my own strength, my own solutions and left me with nothing to rely on but Himself.

I think Jesus knew it was going to storm before He took the disciples out there. It was a way of showing them how foolish it is to trust in man, show them the amazing awesome power of God, and that we can access that power through faith.

Do you think Peter would have walked on water if it were just a puddle of water in a ditch?

Actually, Peter walking on the water was a different storm.

But I think I see what you are saying. It takes us having to come to the end of ourselves and see the Lord bring us through to learn to trust in Him.

My words again here - 1st was Jesus ticking disciples bout lack of faith

2nd rebuke of the elements

3rd elements obeying Jesus's commands - calm

There is probably a "boat load" of others I have overlooked but these 3 stood out to me -

You know, just thinking of all the times in the Bible where it showed folks with lack of trust -

One major one that comes to mind is when the Israelites were in the wilderness...after having witnessed the Mighty Hand of God in His dealings with the Egyptians - (superpower of the day)...

I can understand the anger/annoyance of the Lord - we worry and are frightened but yet He who made all things and is in our future (Believers), is in control - if we just allow Him and trust Him. That is all He asks and yet we fail again and again - me being one of them....

We came to the conclusion that Jesus was not happy with the disciples lack of faith because, 1. fear is the opposite of faith and 2. the "storm" was survivable - because of His presence was with them.

Not just this but what he had already spoken before sailing out.

Matthew 8:18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.

And when one disiciple questioned him about letting him go bury his father first, Jesus responded with.

Matthew 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

They started out following...

Matthew 8:23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.

After Jesus had already commanded them to take him to the other side and speaking about following him, the first thing he heard from them when he was awaken was...

Matthew 8:25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

They really didn't grasp any of the words which Jesus had just spoken to them, I think this was one of the reasons why he was not happy after being woke up. :whistling:

Yes - He had every right to not have been happy with the disciples.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
