It is all over the Tenach (OT for some) but the most obvious reference is probably Isaiah 49 and/or Ps 117

I don't mean to be obtuse but...

Psa 117:1 O praise Jehovah, all nations; praise Him, all peoples.

Psa 117:2 For His merciful kindness is great toward us; and the truth of Jehovah endures forever. Praise Jehovah!

Where is the church in this? I understand all nations refers to gentiles as well, but this doesn't speak to the "how". Just that Jehovah is has great merciful kindness towards all. :rolleyes:

again...as Parker has pointed out....that is the mystery which was revealed.

Isn't that what you asked for?

:emot-pray:

Are you saying that this passage shows the mystery, that was later explained to Paul through special revelation?

Apologies for the confusion, because I was looking for detail in the OT, not about the fact that the gentiles would be reconciled to God, but how.

Throughout the the Old testement you will find prophesy concerning Israel, the Messiah, and the thousand year reign when the nations of the world will become the nations of the Lord, but there are several verses that speak directely to Gentiles comming to faith, depicted as recieving light.

Isaiah 11:10And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Isaiah 42:6I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

7To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

Isaiah 49:6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

In Jeremiah 16 verse 19 it appears to be subtle, but if you read it in context the day of affliction was when Israel was removed from the land in A.D. 70, but to fully appreciate prophesy concerning Israel, you must view it from the prospective of the church being hidden, because much of it points to Gentiles coming to Zion with Christ reigning there during the millennium.

Jeremiah 16:19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

'~andy~' date='Apr 13 2010,

I have often wondered where to find this teaching hidden in the OT. I have found a few references in the Psalms, and in Isaiah, but I don't think I have the knowledge at the moment to be able to fully support Paul's teachings concerning the gentiles from the Old Testament.

Is this because Paul received it as a special revelation, apart from the scriptures?

Similar scriptures are found in Colossians...

Col 1:25 of which I became a minister, according to the administration of God given to me for you, to fulfill the Word of God;

Col 1:26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.

Col 1:27 For to them God would make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the nations, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory,

Numbers 14:21--But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.

It was ten different times that the children of Israel tempted the Lord and wouldn't listen to his voice God had enough of it. There was alot of the children of Israel who died in the wilderness because of their unbelief.

But God said this time that as he lived all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord. This saying, that all the other Gentile nations would experience salvation through Christ because of the disobedience of the Jews but salvation still comes to the Jews and Gentiles alike would experience the glory of the Lord.

One that is seeking for answers must read and underline what is related in the OT mostly the answer of the plans of the Lord is found but one has to seek and start reading from Genesis and go from there and you will find.

Now this was good news to the gentile nations as salvation would come to them in dew time and that brought joy and rejoicing as Christ would be in us the hope of glory.

Apostle Paul was preaching the gospel to the Jews until he was finally accepted by the church. And the church of Galatia saw that the gospel of the uncircumcism (the Gentiles) was commited unto me, as the gospel of circumcision (the Jews) was unto Peter;...........Galatians 2:7-9............

......Acts 22:17-21.....Because Christ would send Paul far hence to the Gentiles. Ultimately whenever Paul would do this, the Gentiles was eagerly recieved.......Israel announces that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles.......All this was what the twelve had been proclaiming to Israel in the book of Acts.....

His glory shall fill all the earth. And because of the Jews rejection of God as told us in.....Numbers.....that salvation would come to Gentile nations.

Romans 11:11-12--I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

Anytime you see "circumcision" it is always referring to the Jews and anytime you see "uncircumcision" it always is refering to the Gentile nations

Isa 55:4-5 MKJV

(4) Behold, I have given Him for a witness to the people, a Leader and Commander of peoples.

(5) Behold, You shall call a nation that You do not know; a nation that did not know You shall run to You because of Jehovah Your God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified You.

Is"Him" and "You" Jesus?

Oh boy am I confused now.

3 " Incline your ear and come to Me.

Listen, that you may live;

And I will make an everlasting covenant with you,

According to the faithful mercies shown to David.

4 "Behold, I have made him a witness to the peoples,

A leader and commander for the peoples.

5 "Behold, you will call a nation you do not know,

And a nation which knows you not will run to you,

Because of the LORD your God, even the Holy One of Israel;

For He has glorified you."

Isaiah 55:3-5 (NASB)

Isaiah 55 is a prophetic voice speaking to the nation Israel; therefore the "you" in v.5 is speaking to Israel. I believe this is a reference to the call of the Gentiles in the New Testament through the preaching of Paul and the other apostles-- remember, the original apostles were all Jews and only a few actually took the Gospel to the Gentiles. We must never forget that the Gentiles were included when the Gospel was taken to the world by the early Church.

I hope this helps...

The place to begin is Genesis, where God told Abraham that through him, all the nations of the world would be blessed. Remember that in Galatians Paul states that the gospel was preached to Abraham.

I don't have time just now, but will get back to this later.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
