I heard recently that Jonah died inside the fish and was resurrected by God after being spit back out.

Looking at Jonah two it does seem that Jonah was in fact dead at one point by the words he uses. (such as Sheol and referring to being in the pit)

any input, thoughts, anything?

Thanks and God bless!

Hey 'Sir Gareth'

There are many different thoughts and beliefs surrounding the story of Jonah. Based on Jonah dying inside of the whale's belly and t hen being resurrection by God after the whale burped :whistling: him up on land. However, I do not share that particular belief of Jonah dying in the whales belly there are no scripture references that backs that belief. There is a greater purpose that the story of Jonah reveals to us.

Jonah 1:17Now the LORD had prepared a "great fish" (a whale's belly to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The story of Jonah was the last sign that was given that prefigured the death, burial and the resurrection of Christ. For Christ stayed in the heart of the earth three days and three nights and resurrected on the fourth day being the "first"fruits from the dead.)

The scribes and Pharisees had came to Jesus seeking that he would show them a sign but Jesus told the that an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the "prophet" Jonas:

(Jonah lived in the belly of the whale three days and nights and on the fourth day the whale released Jonah on dry ground scripture does not say Jonah died in the whale's belly but instead he would be in it for a period of three days and nights then it would come to and end as he was delivered from the whale's belly on the fourth day.

Jonah 2 shows that Jonah turned to his God in his afflictions as he is telling the things he is going through while in the whale's belly he describes it as hell speaking of the darkness inside of the whale. A big whale lives out in the various depths of the sea and Jonah got a three days and nights ride. But Jonah turned to his God and he heard Jonah's prayer Jonah 2:2 "and he heard me;" and "thou heardest my voice" and in Jonah 2:7 "and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.")

The story of Lazarus fits right in with the resurrection of Jesus as it prefigures his triump over death, hell and the grave through the resurrection of the dead. This is what is being portrayed through the death of Lazarus.

(John 11:1-3 Lazarus had fell sick, and his sisters sent word to Jesus that Lazarus was sick.

John 11:4 When Jesus heard the news he says, "This sickness is not unto death," "BUT" for the GLORY OF GOD, that the Son of God might be "glorified" thereby." Jesus said, that Lazarus's sickness was for the glory of God so the Son of God might be glorified within it. There is something being revealed in the sickness of Lazarus.

John 11:6-8 also when Jesus heard Lazarus was sick he did not go down where Lazarus was at but he stayed there were he was at for two more days. After that Jesus went with his disciples over to Judaea again

as his disciples was concerned for Jesus and remind Jesus how they was going to stone him last time he was there.

John 11:9-10 Jesus response to his disciples was aren't there twelve hours in a day. Jesus was the light of the world and if you walk in the light you want stumble and fall because they see Jesus a light in the darkness. Jesus told them also that if a person walks in darkness, then he stumbleth cause they don't have the light of the world Jesus abiding within their heart.

John 11:11-15 After Jesus told them about the darkness and the light of the world he then tells them. Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. The disciples said, if Lazarus sleeps he does well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Jesus had been speaking of the death of Lazarus but his disciples thought Jesus was meaning that Lazarus was getting rest in his bed at home like if you work all day you go to bed at night and it is like your asleep but your not but nevertheless the disciples didn't get it. Then Jesus comes on out and plainly, tells them "Lazarus is dead" (it is interesting that Jesus knew Lazarus was already dead and know one came and told Jeses that Lazarus was dead.) Jesus came out and said, he was glad for the sake of his disciples

that he wasn't there when Lazarus had died for the purpose of getting them to believe; And Jesus says, nevertheless let us go on to Lazarus.

John 11:17 When Jesus get's down where Lazarus was at he found out that Lazarus had been layed in the grave for four days already. John 11:21,26,32 Both Martha and Mary tell Jesus if he had been there Lazarus wouldn't have died. Jesus told Martha that he was the Resurrection, and the life, he that believeth, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.

John 11:34,39,40 Jesus said where did you put Lazarus at they told Jesus come and see. Jesus told them to take the stone away but Martha Lazarus's sister says, that by now he stinketh because he has been dead now for four days.

John 11:4To Martha Jesus said didn't I tell you that if you would believe that you would see "the glory of God." John 11:41,42,43,44 They took away the stone where the dead was laid at. Jesus prayed to the Father and thanked him for always hearing his prayers but I said it because of the people which stand by, that they'll believe you have sent me. After Jesus prayed he said, with a loud voice, "Lazarus come forth"

and Lazarus came out of the grave where he was laid at and he was bound hand and foot with the grave clothes they put on him. Then Jesus said, Loose him and let him go.

The story of Lazarus was to show forth the resurrection from the dead. Allthough Lazurus was raised from the dead he did not have a glorified body as Christ had not went to the cross at this point but it was to show that the Father had sent him into the world to die for the sins of mankind and arise from the dead.

The story of the prophet Jonah was the last sign that was given before Christ came into the world and gave himself as a sacrifice to make atonement for sin. Jonah was told to go to Nineveh Jonah 1:2 and prophesy against them because their wickedness had come up before the Lord. Jonah 1:3 Jonah didn't want no part of preaching to the people of Nineveh so he ran from the prescence of God and ended up in the belly of a whale. After Jonah get's out of the whale's belly Jonah 3:1-5 The word of the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time and God told Jonah to go down to Nineveh and when he get's there he begins to preach as soon as he entered the city he began to preach and said, yet fourty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. And the people took the warning seriously and proclaimed a fast from the biggest down to the smallest.

Jonah 3:10 God seen that the people of Nineveh had repented and turned away from their evil ways and God spared them. Jonah 4:1 Jonah got seriously angry that God didn't destroy the people of Nineveh because he repented of the evil, he was going to bring upon Nineveh. God can change his mind at repentance and turning away from sin.

Just some thoughts concerning Nineveh and Jonah's strong feelings toward Nineveh. It happens that Nineveh was the capital city of Assyria. The Assyrians was noted for their cruel treatment of the Jews and it could have been this that caused Jonah to run the first time I don't know but it is a thought.

Another thought that I noticed that Assyria was a Gentile nation as God is turning to the Gentile nations as they could also receive.salvation through the work Jesus was going to do on the cross his death, burial and resurrection as this was what was shown to us in the picture of Jonah in the whale's belly as this was the last sign of Jesus coming into this world being sent by the Father to buy us back from the curse of the law.

So IMO and observation Jonah did not die while he was in the belly of the whale. Jonah 2:10 The Lord speaks to the fish and it vomited Jonah up on dry land. If Jonah was dead in the fish then I believe he was dead when the fish spit him up on land. Jonah 3:1 The Lord spoke to Jonah a second time to go to Nineveh and preach to them. There is no sign of Jonah dying inside the whale if he died inside the whale more than likely he would be dead when he came out but that didn't happen.

(sorry so long) :whistling:

Elijah prayed for a boy to be risen from the dead and he was. Also, before Jesus died, Lazarus rose from the dead.

In either of these two examples did they receive glorified bodies even Lazarus when Jesus told him to come forth Lazarus came out of tomb where he was buried at but Lazarus did not have a glorified body but this was for the glory of God as it depicts the death burial and the resurrection of Jesus in a glorified body and through Jesus triump over the grave we too will receive a glorified body not subject to sickness, death, sorrow, tears, pain and there will be no curse but the throne of God.

I believe that every example in the Word is an example of the resurrection.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
