Gen 2:17

(KJV) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Does this mean physical death or spiritual(separation from god)?

Rev 21:4

(KJV) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Does this mean physical death or spiritual?

Adam and the Woman (named Eve after the trespass), had just went into league with Satan. Pretty serious, and not from a fallen nature, a direct willful act almost as serious as the Devil's own. (Satan's transgression is worse, it's first, and an untempted challenge to God, in that he "tempted" himself; complete willful lieing evil, pre-planned and in envy of God, the first).

The key to understanding this, is to know death is as real as the resurrection, thus dead ones need to be resurrected to live again, as Jesus proved (Revelation 1:18), and this world still challenges, albeit, they cannot resurrect a fly, lol.

Another key was in the statement after, "dust you are" (Genesis 3:19), which is a metaphor of nothingness, used again later in Genesis, as Satan was also consigned to "eat it" too (Gen 3:14), eventually, and finally (Gen 3:15). Also significant is Satan receiving death sentence first, since he is the first "dead one", the Father of the Lie (John 8).

Adam and the woman, are apparently pretty much toast, just plain goners, eternally dead, as they chose to doubt and challenge God's rights. They already had the Knowledge of Good, of course all mankind now, as they learned then, are becoming quite the connoisseurs of the Knowledge of bad and evil, the only thing left to learn after being perfect in paradise, it WAS good. Ironic: Many today can't tell the difference between good and bad.

That's why there is the "Last Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:20), Jesus, perfect spirit, and perfect human DNA, delivered to the very altar of God Almigthy! (Hebrews 9: 11,12,24)

Death is death, and Jesus is life! (eternal; The Immortal King, 1 Timothy 6:16)

I guess in their case, it is both, as Satan will soon join them as well in complete obliteration. It's pretty hard to do anything with a crushed brain and skull; a smashed angelic head, a mind destroyed; Thank God. (Gen 3:15, Numbers 24:17)

"I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades." -

Revelation 1:18

The Word of God speaks of 6 types of death:

1. natural

2. spiritual

3. eternal

4. Christ's

5. Saints

6. wicked

God speaks of them as two categories of the six deaths:

Rev 20:6

6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

NKJV

First death: natural,Christ, saints, wicked. (all pass through this door)

Second death: natural, spiritual, eternal, wicked (God takes no pleasure in this)

Notice what is removed from us in the eternal state... that which is naturally, willfully, eternally, spiritually wicked! They were of their father the devil, a liar from the very beginning! A being that looked upon His maker; yet thought he was everything and his Maker nothing and all who are not thankful to the life given them by God gather to this heart of death! Because the Father has taught us that which is first will be last and the last first and has completed His Word to us, His children; He meant all of the above when He spoke

Gen 2:16-17

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."

NKJV

As we walked down through time with Him in His Word and have learned the fullness of the word death and it's results we also have learned Life in His Son the Hope of all who hear the call of The Father and respond. Love Steven

We can discern this from what actually happened. Adam and Eve did not kick over dead on that day. Buth they were separated from God on that day. So spiritual death was the immediate result. One symptom of spritual death is that their bodies began the process of decay. So physical death is a symptom of spritual death

I think your first question is the death of the flesh because we find in: 2nd Peter 3.8 that a day with God, is as a thousand years. And we find no one living over that amount of time in scripture.

I also think the answer to your secound question is both physical and spiritual.

Give: John 17.12 a read and look-up that word 'perdition' also ckeck out Revelation 6.8, I hope all this helps you.

Both. Before they disobeyed, they were not going to die, physically or spiritually.

So this means Judas was eternally physically and spiritually dead?

We are told that Judas repented in Matthew 27.3. But the dragon; that old serpent; the devil; who is satan, the utter and final ruin that can't be reversed: this is death, or the son of perdition (if you like).

And thanks for the interesting thread.

You answered part fo my prayer by giving the diffrent definitions and looking at the passages. But what I wanted you to see is that all of chapter 17 in the book of John is about you. Then also to search out the words Christ used (son of perdition) in other places, so that it leaves no doubt in your mind who that son of perdition is ! Like:

2nd Thessalonians 2.3-4 "Let no man dedeceive you by any mean: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped: so that he as God sitteth in the Temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Edited to say, it's only satan thats going to do that.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
