The word of God, the actual words are what are important. The words on the paper Or more recently words on a computer screen are curruptable. You can take a E-Bible and delete it. You can take a printed Bible and burn it. But yet Gods word still remains. You see the print is only a record of His words. It is not Him. As you can see from the following...

(yes I am going somewhere with this)

*Edit for clarification*

Now Since some people are confused about what I meant by that. Yes the words of the Bible are the inspired word of God. I am talking about the paper its printed on, the computers screen its on, or the other device on which is recorded. Also Jesus is the word as evidenced below. I am more talking about the man made items that can be corrupted and or destroyed.*

QUOTE John 1 (King James Version)

John 1

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

QUOTE John 1 (New King James Version)

John 1

The Eternal Word

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend[a] it.

QUOTE John 1 (Amplified Bible)

John 1

1IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word ([a]Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.(A)

2He was present originally with God.

3All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.

4In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men.

5And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].

QUOTE John 1 (New American Standard Bible)

John 1

The Word Became Flesh

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

QUOTE John 1:1-5 (American Standard Version)

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not.

Many versions of the Bible and they all agree. The Word is not the Bible. I have seen some people argue about the Bible, which version is the best, but I believe they miss the point. The point is not what words were added or subtracted but if they get you to know the true living word, Jesus.

Yes if you are worried about accuracy pick your version based on what you have read and researched. But remember this. Not one of them are going to be 100% accurate as for as translation goes, and not one of them has everything God ever spoke in it.

Now you do need to be wise though, as some translations are, way way off the mark and they do twist the words to fit their private theology. Notably, the J.W. and the Mormon versions of the "bible".

If you prefer one version, and you are fed off of it, then keep it. If you are worried about if its accurate or not, do what I do, and read several versions of the Bible, and read the notes on the bottom. They tell you what was added or subtracted.

Also try to learn a bit of Bible historical context. If you know what the culture was like that the particular passage of Scripture was aimed at, you will better understand its context and meaning.

But to be wise you need to get to know the good Shepherd, and know his voice. You will not be taken off on false avenues.

-Isaiah-

You miss read me. I am speaking of the text and paper books. The corruptible books.

You are so focused on one version, that you are not preaching Christ Crucified but preaching about a translation. My point exactly. This is why I did not mention one single version in my post.

As for the King James is not a 100% accurate translation any more. I have traveled around the world, its near impossible to translate anything 100% accurately with out losing something. It uses words that do not apply here in modern English, or words that have changed in meaning. If you would like to use all the same texts to translate into a more modern version of English, using terms that people nowadays would understand more readily I would be glad to read it. For instance the word steward. Originally it meant the manager of the estate of the lord. A more modern term would be asset manager. I have had people try to discover God, read the KJV and give up on the whole idea.

I know that it is not the "original" I never mentioned the term why did you bring that up.

Oh and I am not going to debate translations. This is a horse that is dead, and has been beaten to death on many threads here.

No debate here, I totally agree and I always said that you can destroy a Bible but you can't destroy the word of God. In history governments tried to destroy all the Bibles but to no avail and praise the lord, his word remains just as strong today as it did in the beginning. :whistling:

For the word of God is quick (alive), and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Izzy, the bible IS the Word of God.

Jesus is the spoken Word of God (rhema) and the bible is the written Word of God (logos).

The words of the bible truly are the Word of God.

Do you agree?

Now you cannot kill Jesus, so that the spoken Word lives forever. And you can burn copies of the bible, but yet the written Word will remain true regardless of if or how it is recorded by man. Is this what you meant?

Confused!

The title of this thread says 'The bible is NOT the Word of God' but YES it is! It is the WRITTEN (logos) Word of God.

From the SOF...

We believe that the 66 books of the Canon, from Genesis to Revelation are the exhaustive, inerrant and inspired word of God.

Actually, the entire 119th Psalm refers to the written Scriptures as the "Word of God."

In Luke 8:11 the Scriptures are depicted as "seed." Jesus says that the seed in that parable symoblizes the Word of God. There numerous places where the term "word of God" is used to refer to Scriptures partcularly in Acts where it is said that the Word of God was growing, or that peoplpe were hearing the Word of God. The Apostles were devoted to studying the Word according to Acts 6.

Firstly: Shiloh357 [(I have trouble referring to anyone this way - Shiloh = Jesus ..... the cepture willl not depart from Judah until Shiloh come) Please no harm intended and I know you ended w/357.... you have sparked my curiousity I imagine]

Shiloh is the name of an Israelite city and is the first place the Tabernacle was built in the promised Land.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
