I'm new to this board so perhaps this subject has been discussed at length though I've yet to come across it. My Mother in Law is a faithful supporter to TBN(Trinity Broadcasting Network) and thats fine until she can't pay her light bill. I think she is afraid that she will fall from grace if she dosen't. I can't say that I truely know the hearts of the folks who run that thing but I will say that to me, it just comes across as phony beyond belief. It seems like they are always drawing people in for the sale. Television could be a great tool for spreading the Gospel but instead and again, to me... (TBN) comes across as a false doctrine super highway or something. Also, if you were a non-believer and just channel surfing one day and you came across that circus like atmosphere with the eye lashes and silly props and forgive me but, horrific wardrobe, wouldn't you kinda think Hmmmm these people are just a few bricks shy. I think it would drive people away from Jesus. Just my thoughts and if I'm wrong... God forgive me.

Dan....

I saw several minutes of it for the first time the other day...what little I saw had me reaching for the barf-bag until I realised I wasn't on a plane. :x:

dgolvach, you're right. I've seen Jan Crouch try and make people feel guilty for not sending money. I've thought all the same things about TBN that you mention in your post. I watch EWTN now. Even a non-Catholic can enjoy that station and they don't beg old people for money.

NIV)1 Tim 6:3If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

6But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

"who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. "

but Paul says in Phil 1:15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.[3] 18But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

I rejoice that Christ is being preached however you can't buy the gift of God and I wish they would stop telling people that the only way they're gonna get a miracle is by planting a seed into TBN. They are rich and it seems the poor keep them that way.

In his love,

Brian

gypc ...Thanks, That pretty much confirms my feeling about those people. The other part of my story concerning TBN started back in 1991. My father had just turned 72 and had never accepted Christ. He taught me that God was man's invention and heaven and hell was right here on earth and when you die? lights out and thats it! Im not saying that I did not love my Father I did. I still do. I asked him in May of 91 if he would reconcider the Lord. His responce was" I'll never bow to any God". Mine was "No sir your wrong...you will bow and maybe sooner than yoiu think". Then we started the testy debate and he said to me, "let me show you why I don't believe in Jesus". He took me inside and turned on channel 14 (TBN) and there they were doing the things they do. I tried to tell him that not all Christians were like that and he said " well a good many of them must be or these people would not be on the air". About a month later we found out that my Dad had stage 4 lung cancer and was given 4 to 6 months to live. He died October 30th 1991. I don't know for sure where my Dad was with God when he died. My brother told me he had a death bed conversion when I wasn't there. My brother to this day stands by that but it's always in the back of my mind that he was just making that up for my sake. I guess I won't know until the Lord calls me home. Im not saying that TBN is at fault for my Dad's choices but I can tell you they didn't help. As a matter of fact, I think they are dangerous and repel people from the Gospel because of there antics. I resent them very much. I dont know how you can even believe there is a God and do what they do. You sure don't fear him. I would rather my catch my sons looking at porn on the internet than find them watching TBN because it would be easier to explain why porn is wrong and against God. I guess I've said enough.

Dan......I'm very sorry about your Dad.......but hang on to the hope that your bro led him to the Lord before he died.

When someone starts in on the TBN thing and they just want your money, I'll show them scriptures in the Bible like.........

Matt 7:15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

I show them that in vs 22 Jesus says MANY..........the oppisite of many is few!!

13"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a FEW find it.

I wouldn't even have a problem if all they were doing was telling folks about the free gift of salvation that Jesus gave us. They go off into these crazy rants. I saw this Copeland guy and I have to tell you, it sounded like white witchcraft or something. Don't we have a big enough challenge in making the case for Jesus without these people convincing unbelievers that were all nut jobs? Satan is a hard worker and this prooves it.

God Bless...

I have never been a fan of religious TV, period.

From what little I've seen, I was not impressed with all the various trappings of wealth with the fancy furnishings and (yes!) the artificial appearance of Jan.

But then again, where the money is concerned, it almost seems like a victimless crime. The people are too quickly impressed, methinks, to give away their money. Without these thousands (?) of supporters, they would be gone in a week or so.

Give me human fellowship over broadcasting, any day.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
