Well.. hum.

Rock stars are indeed talented, yes.. but, they are also backed up by producers and marketers, which tell them what is in, whats cutting egde.. what people are into. The producers often get them to write songs that appeal to specific demographics they are shooting for at the time..

But, anyways.. As far as Im concerned, Kobain didnt kill himself, Courtney had him murdered. He wanted to get out of the music business, but she wanted him to keep making lots of money for her.. but if he was leaving the business, he was worth more to her dead than alive. Theres evidence that points to it.. like, on the shotgun that he supposedly used, there were no fingerprints. Dead men dont wipe fingerprints off of guns... :)

believe it or not, yes, nirvana is still quite popular. it's like the rocky horror picture show... the cult following just keeps growing and growing. both my daughters are crazy about nirvanah.

oh, where DID i go wrong?  :)

You didn't go wrong anywhere.

Why do you think they are bad children for listening to Nirvana?

I would have to agree with Bodhi here, Most of Nirvanas songs although of a secular nature, are not against God and have some great meaning to them.

btw... Whether Kurt actually killed himself is still in dispute, he was planning on leaving Nirvana around the time of his death and his wifey wasn't too happy about her Prize stallion going lame :x:

The only people who listen to them are christians because they feel that's the only thing they should be listening to. Let me rephrase that. The reason they're not successful in the REAL music industry.

Agnostic,

You may wanna check your sources again. Many Christian Bands are breaking into the mainstream music industry now.

Switchfoot

The Calling

MercyMe (getting alot of radio time as of late)

POD

Just to name a few.

And many of the "secular" bands have Christian members.

God Bless,

Psalm 37:1-4

Don't worry about the wicked.

Don't envy those who do wrong.

For like grass, they soon fade away.

Like springtime flowers, they soon wither

Trust in the LORD and do good.

Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.

Take delight in the LORD,

and he will give you your heart's desires.

Lady C: There is plenty of variation in different genres, you are just unaware of them. You are taking your opinions from mainstream music. You are no better than people who hate christians based on the perception of a few crazy fundamentalists.

1. i said i didn't know about bob marley.

2. kurt cobain was a "sex symbol" in the eyes of millions of teenagers, both male and female.

3. his sexual antics with and without courtney love were more talked about than even his music, though maybe not by much. i managed a pool hall during the height of nirvana's popularity, and a large percentage of our clientelle were teens and young adults, and i never heard a conversation about nirvana and kurt that did not include sex. lyrics don't have to be sexual in nature for a person to be 'selling sex' to the masses.

4. i am very familiar with music in general, mainstream and underground. don't make assumptions about people. my personal taste in music covers a broad spectrum, and includes bands that the majority of the world has never heard of. the musical taste of my daughters covers the rest of the spectrum, also including underground bands, many of whom gained popularity among the deep ellum crowds of dallas where i used to hang out, and where my oldest daughter now prefers spending her time.

5.

I DID NOT SAY MY KIDS ARE "BAD".

to the contrary, i'm very proud of both my girls, despite their questionable taste in music, and their secular lifestyle that rejects Godliness.

I've been reading this thread and I can think of two rock groups and I'm sure there are more, that reflect sexuality and that's Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. Whether or not Bon Jovi's song lyrics reflect sexuality or not, John certainly does. He's a sex symbol and the girls go wild for him.

The point is Cobain died at an early age, regardless of what or who caused his death. He died at the age of 27 like so many other rock stars have, Morrison, Joplin, Hendrix. They all died before their time, because of their lifestyle and the rocky road that rock music stars follow using drugs, etc. Rock stars don't have God's protection on their life. Christian groups have God's protection on their lives. I haven't heard of any Christian music artists dying at the age of 27... :t2:

Sometimes some of the sinful and wicked DO prosper and go unpunished.

For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked... They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men... Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish. They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily... Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. - Psa 73:3-12

The prosperity of the wicked seals their destruction

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. - Psa 73:17-19

Sometimes, those whom God wants to destroy, He leaves them alone.

The wicked who go unpunished on this side of the grave will be punished on the other side. In death, all wrongs will be made right.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption... - Gal 6:7-8

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores... And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am torment in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. - Lk 16:19-25

Sorry LadyC I was not agreeing with BOdhi first statement to you, the only thing I agreed to was what I quoted and that was his opinion on Nirvana, And I am talking about there music, Not Kurt's Image. I didn't think there still was an image of him anymore? I donot myself any longer listen to Nirvana, but as i said most of there music is good and has good meaning, although they were still a secular Group.

God Bless,

Dave

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
