How come Bible scholars, for over 1500 years, used candles to study and write by if the candles contributed to "evil" forces?

Go Bro go... you tell

Mark 4

21 And he(Jesus) said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

Jesus talks about candles i don't think its a sin...

"Are your candles making you sick?

You love the warm glow and calming scents of your favorite candles. But you probably won't be as enamored of the prospect that these same candles may be emitting lead particles into your home.

"The last thing people would imagine is that candles can be little lead smelters," says Sidney Wolfe, the director of Public Citizen's Health Research Group in Washington D.C.

The group examined 285 candles from twelve different stores in the D.C. area. Eighty-six had metal wicks, and laboratory tests found that nine had wicks containing high amounts of lead.

The group says burning a lead-wicked candle for three hours can cause lead levels in the air to be nine to 33 times higher than federal safety standards. Airborne lead can be inhaled or it can settle on surfaces, where it can be ingested.

Wolfe urges people to check their candles for metal wicks. You can tell by looking straight down at the wick to see if there is a metal tip in the center. Not all metal wicks contain lead, but to be on the safe side, don't burn any candles with metal wicks.

Lead poisoning may damage the central nervous system and cause abnormal development and behavior and learning problems in children."

There are more people that use computers every single day, than those that burn candles every day and if you're concerned about candles making you sick, you should probably be EVEN more concerned that your computer could be making you sick. Read the article below.

In response to your question...I don't feel that burning candles is a sin or will bring evil into your house...I do have to say that in witchcraft they do burn candles and incense to call demonic spirits and cast spells but; in the case of us as Christians who have not practiced witchcraft, candles are not a sin.

People can use almost anything for "evil" The objects arent what are evil, it's how we use them. We burn candles all the time for their scent, etc, in our home. We're not using them for evil.

Is using chalk a sin? Is cooking with herbs a sin? Is face-painting a sin? Are bonfires sinful? These things are all part of wiccan or pagan rituals...if we tried to say that everything that has ANY connection to pagan tradition is sinful, we'd probably be left naked in a field eating grass.

I agree that burning candles is not sinful.

Right after I was saved a preacher's wife told me that an owl and some other kind of little knicknack was a host for evil spirits and that I should burn them. I broke them and burnt them as she suggested because I thought she knew more than I did. :oww: See anyone can say that anything is evil.

Someone already kinda answered this question.

It all boils down to why you are burning a candle, or why you do anything else, such as wear a crystal amulet....etc. !

It's the motivation or reason. Are you doing it to honor or worship another god???

To light a candle is not sinful. To light it as to illuminate a shrine of an idol.... then it is sinful/wrong!

Im a rock hound. I love the beauty of rocks. I am sitting here at the computer with a large couple of hundred pound chunk of petrfied wood next to me. I would love to have a nice crystal to wear as a necklace. But I cant. It would have no harm to me spiritually, but it would ruin my witness completely. Candles would not do so however, since there is far less association between candles and anything spiritually wrong.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
