God's Amazing Grace!

Law is...

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. (Rom 3.20)

A picture of a butterfly shown to a dying caterpiller.

Grace is...

For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1.17)

God giving a gift to someone who doesn't deserve it.

God giving eternal life to a person who has earned eternal damnation.

God giving love in return for hatred.

Christ dying for us while we were yet sinners. (Romans 5.8)

For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. (Rom 6.14)

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Eph 2.8-9)

Law demonstrates mankind's sin.

Grace demonstrates God's love.

  Law's penalty is death.

Grace's gift is eternal life.

Law is for people of a fallen creation.

Grace makes people a new creation.

Law seeks to change people from the outside by giving them rules.

Grace changes people from the inside by giving them new hearts.

Law demands righteousness of you.

Grace bestows righteousness upon you.

Law is you trying to climb high enough to reach God.

Grace is God stooping down to lift you up.

Law is what you must do for God.

Grace is what God in Christ has done for you.

Law says, "Be holy and you MIGHT get to heaven."

Grace says, "Be holy because you ARE going to heaven."

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work. (2 Thes 2.16-17)

Wow did you get it------Law is what you must do for God.

Grace is what God in Christ has done for you!

Love in Christ,Angesl

Psm 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.

How can this be?

Blindseeker, at the time of writing of this and all of the other Psalms, the Mosaic Law was the latest instruction from God.  The era of grace, or the "Church age", had not come yet.  Therefore, the Law is given in reference to man's inherent way.  That it is meant to show God's standard for man.

Here are some good scriptures on Law and Grace

2 Corinthians 3

14But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

2 Corinthians 3

For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

John 1

16From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Matthew 17

4Then Peter answered and said to Jesus,

Angels statements are accurate.  The law is not bad - but it is only a temporary safety until the perfection of love comes.

It's like training wheels on bicycles - they're a safety if you're a little kid and don't know how to ride (and don't want skinned knees).

But training wheels are rediculous and a hindrance to someone who can ride well.

Paul says, "Do we therefore negate the Law by our freedom under grace - God forbid!  Rather we UPHOLD the law."

What this means:  When you learn how to ride without training wheels do you then let yourself fall and get hurt?  God forbid!  Rather, you UPHOLD yourself, just as the training wheels once did for you!

Therefore all who are under the law of grace do not have to follow all of the laws of the old testament all the time...  but the basic purpose of those laws - love and righteousness - will be fulfilled even more.

Make sense???
