The Obama administration is leading a global effort to deploy "shadow" Internet and mobile phone systems that dissidents can use to undermine repressive governments that seek to silence them by censoring or shutting down telecommunications networks.

I like the idea; it's a variation on the old 'pen is mightier than the sword' thing. We simply can't go into every country that oppresses their people. This would allow them to organize and undermine right under the noses of , say, Achmadinejad or Assad, even Kim Jung Il. :)

I agree with your thinking. And you know what if us tax payers are going to be paying for others cell phones, etc. then why shouldn't everyone get free cell service? I do have to wonder outloud if Americans ever do come to such protesting in this country as we see in other places, will we get our net and phones cut off and if so whose going to give us these great things so we can tell others whats happening? :noidea:

Isn't it interesting that Obama supposedly wants to encourage freedom in other countries . . .

. . . all the while curtailing it in this one?

Blessings!

It just makes me wonder if 60 years from now someone even worse than Obama will go on an apology tour for us fighting for their liberty to use the internet.

What freedoms have you lost under the Obama presidency?

Funny you should ask.

Obama care - Passed by Congress and signed into law by Obama, over the objections of the majority of American voters and still wildly unpopular - is the biggest assault on freedom since FDR's New Deal.

But you may not understand . . .

Blessings!

What about Obamacare will cost me freedoms?

Here's an excerpt from the commentary at the link I posted - the writer states it better than I

The excerpt from the article is..

1. Speculation which has not been proven.

2. Insulting and unchristian. Asking a reasonable question does not make one a "dim lightbulb."

I am glad you admit that you have lost no freedoms under Obama.

Personally I hope everyone is made to take responsibility for their own health care bills and insurance. I am tired of paying 5 figure insurance premiums and then having to pick up the tab for those too irresponsible to ensure they and their families are covered.

I agree with the article that a part of freedom is "having the opportunity to work hard in order to earn the money and personal property necessary to reach one's potential and goals." Freedom also includes the responsibility to pay your own way. If this was done by everyone, we would not need healthcare reform.

Since the poor have been around since the beginning of commerce, I would venture to guess that humanity has never experienced true freedom.

I am glad you admit that you have lost no freedoms under Obama.

Yet.

But in all fairness - he's just carrying on the grand tradition of past Congresses and Presidents.

Turning your question around - I can't think of any recent (say in the last 50 years or so) instances where freedom has increased.

Which brings me back to the point of this thread - i.e. Obama seemingly increasing freedom abroad while trying to curtail it (once Obamacare is fully implemented) here.

Blessings!
