Most forums have a rule that insists on debating the subject and not the person. Few forums enforce this rule well.

We like to use tools to tear down an apposing debate which are designed to show the opponent is disreputable.

Derogatory associations and sarcasm are very popular.

Here's something I've learned to use as a measuring device in my spiritual walk:

1Corinithians 13:4-7 states:

"Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; Love does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things . . . "

Now, because GOD is Love, insert Jesus' name where the word "love" is used.

Next, insert YOUR name where the word "love" is used.

I believe that the greatests problems are three

1. where we are: normally, if we speak about Jesus with someone we met, we're standing before him, listening to the words and answering. In this way is easy to understand what a person thinks, we can hear her tone, see her expressions and so on. In a forum It's another thing. I find that the most difficult thing is remember that I am arguing with a real person, not with a string of words.

2. Remembering to love the debater more than the debate. We're, as was said, planting a seed. Planting a seed is a difficult thing, you have to be very careful, when you excavate and whe you bury the seed, otherwise it will be lost even before it can grows. To make it grow is God's work, but It will be easier if we plant it kindly and well!

3. Sometimes we see something we think is wrong and we immediately strike: "No, how can You say that, It's obvious that the comma was BEFORE "Peor" and not AFTER! This will totally change you understanding of the successive three words of this versicle!" Maybe It's true, maybe not, some things are better argued only between christians that even with nonbelievers.

4We really, really, must remember to pray! Anytime, we read, anytime we thing and anytime we write!
