Baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the Gifts of the Holy Spirit were poured on the Gentiles of Acts 10 and the apostles in Acts 2. It was an audible and visible thing.

Here is what it means to be baptised with the Holy Spirit.

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

You cannot be born again (saved) and not be baptised with the Holy Spirit. Being born again means just what the scripture above says. This is done by way of the baptism. The false teaching that it is a second work of grace is built from the unique transtional period in scripture at and around Pentecost. It is incorrect to call this the norm for today for about a million reasons, all scriptural. It is incorrect and contradicts the clear meaning of the truth of His Word. Notice that in 1 Cor. 12:13, just after the birth of the Church, the transitional period, that Paul can safely say that all are baptised with the Holy Spirit. If this were a second work of grace this would not be true and would make his point useless.

Everyone gets baptised, Jesus is always the baptiser, believers are baptised with the Holy Spirit, unbelievers are baptised with fire (judgement), as Matt 3:10-12 is very clear about. Also see Malachi 4:1 and John 15:6.

When you are are born again you are baptised into Chist, His death and resurection, By Jesus, with the Holy Spirit. Hence the term born again.

Col. 2:10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ,

12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

2 Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Hebrews 6:2 Baptisms A better translation would be "washings" as in 9:10. The Greek term is never used of Christian baptism. The plural also is inconsistent with the singular concept of Christian baptism. In the OT Levitical system, there were many ceremonial cleansings, which were outward signs of heart cleansings (cf Ex. 30:18-21; Lev. 16:4,24,26,28; Mark 7:4,8 ). The New Covenant called for an inner washing (Titus 3:5 ) that regenerated the soul. (JMSB)

The water baptism is symbolic of the "one" true baptism. Much the same way the the blood sacrifices of the OT never took sin away, but were symbolic, a reminder that pointed towards Jesus.

Test everything to God's word, never take anyones word for it, even mine.

God bless

Dave

Welcome to the Board. LOL if you weren't sure about baptism when you first posted I would say you would be more confused now than you were when you started. That's why I dont like getting involved in the subject.

So to be on the safe side, if I were you, and you feel sure that you are a truly born again spirit filled forgiven christian, get yourself a fully immersed baptism by an ordained pastor and nobody can question it's authenticity. You will seldom get any two denominations agree on baptism, so dont listen to man, liten to the Holy Spirit. And the angels will rejoice.

Now I am not suggesting that this the only and correct way, but it will set your mind at ease.

Have a neat day,

eric.

Thanks for your replies everyone, I really appreciate it. Someone asked about my denomination, it's Presbyterian. Sorry for not saying before. I guess I'm just wondering what God thinks of infant baptism. Is he pleased with it or not ? Thanks again for your answers so far. I see there are a lot of different beliefs her and I think thats great as lobg as we all believe in the same God.

I'm gonna disagree here. Doesn't have to be an ordained minister. I would say that as long as the person doing it is a mature believer who clearly lives a life of dedication to God then you should have no problem. It doesn't matter if people question the authenticity if you are following God's commands from a heart willing to obey.

I agree too!

Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

This verse applies to every born again believer...not just ordained ministers. We are all called to make disciples and to baptize them!

God Bless!

Yes in Christian Tradition, going back to the Apostolic Fathers, una voce, the Church has always held any baptized Christian may baptize others.

Hey, Whoa down a bit here,

Read my post properly you guys. Nowhere did I say that Serendipity had be baptised by an ordained pastor. I was merely pointing out that if she was in doubt and for her own peace of mind to do it that way. FYI I was baptised by my own daughter and her husband. Everybody is getting jumpy. Read the post properly. At least if she did it the way I offered, then nobody could sat she was not baptised.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
