1. How do you define someone as being "a winner"?

2. Can you give examples or an example of a winner according to today's social standards? Why are they winners? (Tiger Woods? Donald Trump? Oprah? Bill Gates? Mark Zuckerberg?)

3. How do we as Christians define being a winner according to the Bible? (Hint: Jesus is the biggest winner ever... :) )

1) i define a winner by how much credit they give God in all thought or deed.

2) society defines a winner by how much they have achieved or accumulated by apparently their own merit.

3)

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

imo, there are many non-believers(and fellow Christians alike in some cases) whom believe their worldly possessions or accomplishments were gained solely by their own doing.

in part they are correct, and yes some of us are born with certain inborn exceptional traits and talents(God-given).

but ultimately, we are spiritual beings in a physical experience, thus much of what is accomplished in this plane of existence is the direct result of influence from a higher power...knowingly or unbeknownst to us...acknowledged or ignored...evil or Holy.

as Christians, our true victory has long since been claimed through our Lord Jesus Christ who in one gloriously benevolent gesture, humbled Himself to experience what we must experience as human beings..

lived a perfect sinless life, voluntarily went to His death, conquered death and arose in 3 days in all of the Father's Glory..and then ascended to the right hand of Him that knew us before the foundations of the world..

so that any and all who believe in His name will not perish, but partake in everlasting life together with Him who loved us so..

Praise God~!

Jeremiah 9:23-24

23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.

1. How do you define someone as being "a winner"?

I personally don't believe in an "sustained winner" for the simple fact that you will always run into someone better than you; within that statement, to me, a winner is someone who praises God in all things, gives the glory all unto Him as which where it belongs. They walk in great favor and grace in God, reaching out their hand to whomever God places before them, putting others before themselves and loves. Not just any loves; but with all their heart; mind, body and soul; taking up their cross and walking with the Lord. A defined winner is God; for He has overcame all things !

2. Can you give examples or an example of a winner according to today's social standards? Why are they winners? (Tiger Woods? Donald Trump? Oprah? Bill Gates? Mark Zuckerberg?)

To me, society "creates" winners; by making the strong look weak and the weak look strong. Both by imagery and of course money; they can defy social standards; bring on the media, and there you have it; your "winner." Which in this case makes them worldly; seeking first their own desires/ their own god (money)

3. How do we as Christians define being a winner according to the Bible?

Winner by definition :One that wins, especially a victor in sports or a notably successful person. winner [ˈwɪnə] n. 1. a person or thing that wins.

1 John 5:4-5

"For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"

IMO, a winner is being of He who saved us; accepting Him and being lead by Him in truth, love, and in His righteousness and grand plan. One thing to consider is that a winner is gonna be more hated then loved; because a true winner is a leader, and most of time they will go against the grain of the "natural world." By biblical a winner is God; because He is the one who pulled us out from the gutters and saved us.

1. How do you define someone as being "a winner"?

My definition is simple: How obedient am I in following God’s Word.

2. Can you give examples or an example of a winner according to today's social standards? Why are they winners? (Tiger Woods? Donald Trump? Oprah? Bill Gates? Mark Zuckerberg?)

These people may be successful according to the worlds standards. But without Christ all this is in vain.

Mark 8:36

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Matthew 16:26

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Luke 9:25

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

So while Tiger Woods may have a lot of success according the world, money, fame, sponsorship deals he has a broken family and various addictions that have crippled his life. Not to mention I’m not sure if He knows our Savior Jesus Christ which is the most important aspect of being a winner. See next post.

God bless,

3. How do we as Christians define being a winner according to the Bible? (Hint: Jesus is the biggest winner ever... :) )

When I think of a winner in the Bible I think of Joshua.

Joshua 1:1-9

1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. 5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

1. God’s Promises to Joshua:

A. God promised Joshua the land his foot walked on. (v. 3-4)

(see above)

B. God promised Joshua no man would be able to stand before him all the days of his life. (v. 5)

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life (v. 5)

C. God promised to be with Joshua as He was with Moses. (v. 5)

as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. (v. 5)

D. God promised not leave or forsake Joshua and further to be with Joshua wherever he went. (v. 5, 9)

I will not leave you nor forsake you. (v. 5)

for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (v. 9)

2. God’s Commands to Joshua:

A. What was Joshua’s attitude to be? God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous three times. (v. 6, 7, 9)

Be strong and of good courage (v. 6)

Only be strong and very courageous (v. 7)

Be strong and of good courage (v. 9)

B. Further what kind of attitude should Joshua not have? He was not to be afraid or dismayed. (v. 9)

do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, (v. 9)

C. Who was Joshua to aspire to? God commanded Joshua to follow in Moses footsteps and not turn to the right or left in order for Joshua to be a winner. (v. 7)

that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. (v. 7)

3. God’s Plan for Joshua’s Success

A. What was the key to Joshua’s success? To observe God’s Word, meditate on God’s Word day and night, and obey His Word (do what is written in it). (v. 8)

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (v. 8)

Thoughts on this passage? How do these 3 points apply to us today? Specifically what are God’s promises to us today as Christians, God’s commands to us as Christians, and God’s plan for our success?

How did Jesus exemplify this in His life? What were the keys to Jesus success?

God bless,

GE

1. I like the definition BlessedByTheBest (BBTB). If I may I would add that obedience to God’s Word is key. Obedience out of love not duty though. ;) Would you agree?

2. I agree with this definition. :th_handshake:

3. I agree with John 16:33 and I think it’s an excellent verse to determine our victory in Christ (we’re winnaaaaarrrss!)

I agree everything that is good is given by God.

James 1:16-18

16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.

I agree with everything underlined.

What do you think of the story of Joshua I mentioned? Specifically what are your thoughts on what are God’s promises to us today as Christians, God’s commands to us as Christians, and God’s plan for our success?

Great post Joe!

I agree we’re to be still and know that God is God. (Ps. 46:10)

I agree we’re also to trust in God (Jer. 17:7) not in man. (Jer. 17:5)

We’re not to be surprised as we’re told we’ll suffer persecution as followers of Christ. (2 Tim. 3:12)

And as John the Baptizer said we’re decrease and let God increase! (John 3:30)

We’re also to dwell with the Lord in humility (Is. 47:15)

God is the one true glorious God a jealous God! (Is. 42:8)

I agree our calling (1 Cor. 7:17; 7:20) is to love God and love people (Matthew 22:34-40 see below).

I agree we’re to serve the Lord with fear and rejoice in our Mighty God. (Ps. 2:11)

The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?

Matthew 22:34-40

34 But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.[b] 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

What do you think of the story of Joshua I mentioned? Specifically what are your thoughts on what are God’s promises to us today as Christians, God’s commands to us as Christians, and God’s plan for our success?

God bless,

GE

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
