Some Christians "give up everything" and band together in communities where there is no personal ownership of things (cars, houses, furniture, etc.), and where they pool all of their income.

That sounds like the Amish :mgcheerful:

There are many modern Christian communities around the world.

I am interested to hear this. can you give a few examples?

There is a directory of Christian communities at the above link, and some relevant books at the link below:

The Christian community that I am most familiar with, personally, is the New Creation Christian Community, which has been around for about 35 years, as part of the Jesus Fellowship Church, based in Northampton, England.

Those are in the main "spiritual" communities, not christian, but it makes interesting reading.

Does anyone know if anyone of the 12 had families that they left behind? I have not look into this but I always thought that they were all unmarried men with no wives or chilldren.

Matthew mark and Luke all three speak of Jesus healing Peter's mother-in-law.  Don't know of kids but he had to have a wife.

also in one of the letters to the Corinthians Paul talks of having the right to bring along a christen wife as did the other apostles.

Hmm, my sister attends a New Creation church (in Colorado); would that be affiliated, prolly? Ty

No, I don't think there is any connection.
