I still haven't seen the true answer on here yet, so here it is Jerry:

YES, speaking in tongues is for EVERYDAY. I personally speak in tongues daily. Just about every Believer I know does also. If you are a BELIEVER, that qualifies you to speak in tongues.

The main problem to address is that there is a difference between speaking in tongues as your heavenly prayer language and speaking in tongues as the gift of the Holy Spirit. They are 2 different things.

SIT (speaking in tongues) as 1 of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit is to deliver a message from the Father to the local Body of The Anointed One and His Anointing. The person is able to control themselves and they will speak what utterance has been given them by the Spirit (and contrary to the religious lie that this and the other gifts have "passed away" they have NOT (to those who say it has, where, pray tell, is that expiration date in the Bible? For tongues or any gift, such as healing to pass away, God would have to pass away, because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. So if He has us speaking in tongues back then, He has us doing so today, if He healed back then (even going back to Exodus 15:26), then He does so now).

Jesus said in Mark 16:17-18 that ALL those who BELIEVE, these signs will follow them. And the second one is that YOU, as one who BELIEVES, will speak in tongues.

Now notice: THERE IS NO EXPIRATION DATE ON THAT. He also said that ALL those who BELIEVE would lay hands on the sick and they would be healed/recover...no expiration date...very important. It is a religious tradition lie that these things have passed away (the only person who benefits from Believers thinking this stuff is gone is the devil - he tries it with riches, health, healing, victory, tongues, etc).

Notice also how important tongues was to Paul, that PAUL, the anointed Paul, the one God used to write 2/3 of what Jesus taught the disciples in the 40 days after He resurrected to us, Paul who saw the Lord face to face, that in Acts 19 the first thing he asks new Believers about when he meets them is whether or not they received the Holy Spirit and thereby spoke in tongues (because the REALITY of the Scriptures says that WHEN you believed on Jesus, He came as His Holy Spirit to dwell in your heart. Now if He's telling the truth (and of course He is!) then how can you receive the Holy Spirit after you've already believed (proving that this is not some miraculous connection to speaking in tongues but rather the result of receiving the Holy Spirit)?

What Paul is referring to is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (where Jesus said John baptized you with water, but I shall baptize you with fire). The evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is that the Believer now speaks in tongues.

When Peter preached the Good News to the gentiles, what happened? God thought it was pretty important that these guys speak in tongues, because again, it is written the Holy Spirit came on them! Now why would God do that? Why did God have the 120 in the upper room in Acts 2 speak in tongues?

Is it or is it not written that your Heavenly Father ONLY gives GOOD gifts? And that He would give the Holy Spirit to whomever asks? This is the promise spoken of by Joel, the Holy Spirit poured out on in the last days (which began at Jesus' resurrection). Clearly, by God's own words, speaking in tongues is GOOD.

In 1 Cor 14 Paul says I wish you ALL spoke in tongues, and he said thank God he spoke in tongues more than they all, and that he would sing in tongues, praise in tongues and pray in tongues, and not to forbid anyone to speak in tongues. This was a huge deal to the early Church - and it should be to us. The only one who benefits from a Church that doesn't speak in tongues is the devil. Because SIT edifies (charges up) your spirit man, the hidden inner man of the heart. And what is being said is understood by God, not necessarily you (though you can pray to receive the understanding of what is being said too), and the devil, being a dead spirit, cannot understand what you are saying, because it is the Holy Spirit speaking.

Notice that Jesus said to the 500 to wait in the city until they had received POWER FROM ON HIGH TO WITNESS about Jesus. Want to power to witness? Well 120 held out the entire week (it was just 7 days after He ascended!) and they received the gift of the Father!

Now I can tell you from experience too Jerry, in the 6 weeks I was saved BEFORE I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (as I write this, I can feel the anointing on this testimony - take it and act on it!), the devil sent some Believers to try to talk me out of it, saying it was of the devil or that I should not do it, or that it would bring division or that it wasn't for today (he tried so hard!). But I challenged them, even though I was only a baby Christian at the time, I knew to make them show me in the Word where it said what they were trying to get me to accept. But they couldn't, and I asked my campus pastor about it and he looked at his wife and said, "He's ready."

So they stood around me and laid hands on my head just as in the Word (though my wife received when she was in a room by herself with the Lord, which is also Scriptural) and I received the gift of the Father and spoke in tongues. And there was power (I should add that my hands felt as though they had power or some kind of Holy Spirit fire in them)! I have never been the same since, and there was a night and day difference in me spiritually afterward as well.

If you, or anyone reading this, has not received the gift of the Father that Jesus sent for us, let your faith be stirred up now. Forget all the religious correctness you may have been exposed to, forget all the lies from the devil, get alone with the Father and ask to receive your baptism in the Holy Spirit NOW with the evidence of speaking in tongues. And whatever comes to you in that time, it will likely sound like baby talk or nonsense to you, let it out - it is the Holy Spirit giving you utterance. Even if it's just one syllable. That first night, I received 4 syllables. Then weeks later I asked for more and I received many words and the Lord has given more and still more since. Let it out and receive that power to witness of Jesus. Keep praying in tongues everyday, for it edifies (charges) you in your spirit. And the Holy Spirit is praying through you at that time (though you are still in control of your mind, your body, etc). God is AWESOME! Go for it!

I just want to know if speaking in tongue is heavenly or earthly language,i believed Jesus Christ speak in tongue,do you guys think it's biblical that every correct born again must speak in tongue, does those people that speak in tongue understand the language they where speaking at that moment:are those who speak in tongue more spiritual or closer to God than those who do not, does every christian who receive the holy spirit speak in tongue,is there any special benefit in speaking in tongue,I pray and believe that you guys will help me to answer all this question,I detest to rely on my own understanding,A brother who newly gave his life to christ, went to a church, according to him most of the members where speaking in tongue when the prayers was going on,He was the person that asked me those question i listed above"let assume you were the one what will you tell him?

IMHO, I think that most (but not all) Christians should speak in tongues.  I come to this conclusion by reading the Book of Acts and combining it with the Book of James.

7)  For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8)  But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poision.

9)  Therewith bless we God, even the Father, and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

James 3:7-9

God has given the human race so many abilities, such as taming the animal world.  Yet with all the gifts that God has given us it is impossible humanly speaking to tame our tongues, to keep them in check.  In the next three verses of James 3 we see something of great interest to the believers:

10)  Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing, My brethren these things ought not to be.

11)  Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12)  Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

James 3:10-12

Notice that James asked can the  fountain bring forth sweet and bitter water at the same place in verse 11?  When Jesus refers to the receiving of the Holy Spirit He describe it in a similar fashion, see John 7:37-39, that is ... out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.  John 7:38   So that it could be said of a man or woman who is full of the Spirit, the mouth will bring out sweet water of fresh water of life.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

James 1:26

This verse which James wrote before the third chapter of how no man can tame his tongue leaves us with a great problem, that is a religious man can bridle his tongue.  But no man is able to bridle his own tongue.  So the way I see it is the Holy Spirit does this by either getting a believer to speak in tongues in most cases or in some few cases causing them to prophecy thus the Holy Spirit has hold of our tongues which we cannot tame, but He can.

When Cornelius was saved he was given the Gift of the Holy Spirit, which to the Jews was evidence by speaking in tongues; Acts 10:45-46.  But later we see that the Gift of the Spirit was also evidence by speaking in tongues and prophesy; Acts 19:6.  If you are wondering what prophesy could be, I will give an example of a Baptist Minister who is a famous evangelist in the United States, who was telling the story of preaching but in the middle of the service he froze and something took over him, as he tells the story he heard himself speaking in English but never understood or knew what he was speaking he thought he had gone crazy.  He told family members about it later but they all couldn't figure it out maybe he zone out.  A little while later his daughter came up to him and ask him if he could give her the transcript to a service saying it was the best she had ever heard him preach, she than stated it was the best message she ever heard anyone preach, he said thanks Pumpkin what sermon was it, she describe the day that he had zone out or in other words the Holy Spirit took control of his tongue and he prophesied.  The Holy Spirit does need to get hold of the believers tongue or we will never be much use to Him.

Likewise the Spirit, also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Romans 8:26

19DuggarFan the only thing you need to know aboout whether or not ALL Christians have the authority is Mark 16:17-18. Jesus said ALL (I repeat ALL) those who BELIEVE would speak in tongues. That doesn't leave any Christian a way to escape the validity of speaking in tongues and whether or not it is God's will. That Scripture 100% proves it is Jesus' will (the Father's will) for ALL Believers for all time to speak in tongues.

Might want to read 1 Corinthians 12 - 14.

Question: Why are tongues the only gift that people claim can be or is for self-edification?

Some examples...

Is the gift of prophecy for self-edification or for the purpose of the Holy Spirit aiding the Body of Christ?

Is the gift of teaching for self-edification or for the purpose of the Holy Spirit aiding the Body of Christ?

Is the gift of evangelism for self-edification or for the purpose of the Holy Spirit aiding the Body of Christ?

Is the gift of healing for self-edification or for the purpose of the Holy Spirit aiding the Body of Christ?

Seems to me the answer is the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the common good according to Scripture.

1 Cor. 12:4-7

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Again, gifts are for the common good and yes they're given by God who empowers them in everyone. Would you agree?

As not everyone is an apostle, prophet, teacher, etc. we shouldn't expect everyone in the Body of Christ to be given the gift of tongues. Don't you think?

1 Cor. 27-31

27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts.

I believed every spiritual gift is giving and empower by God,does this gift have anything in common with what God say to moses,i will show mercy on whom i will show mercy, does it mean that nobody can get the gift of speaking in tongue thru asking for it,unless God will to give it to the person, just asking, and base on what Jesus said"mark 16:17,they shall speak with new tongues, that mean every genuine born again, has been giving the power and authority to speak in tongue,

There is always so much misunderstanding, concerning The Holy Spirit...Rodain!!! Thank you...You have given me a verse that I won't forget now...Hahaha...Love you!!! In Him!!! I believe because of all the different denominations, the beliefs out there and just the plain fear...Having experienced so far-all that I know exists-and all that God has for me-All that God has for us is good!!! It is only the selfish desires and the knowing by the enemy how he can separate us, etc. etc. and believe me that's his job and he does it very very well...and if he can keep us ignorant then all the better for his agenda...and because we all know only in part...that's why we need ALL of us and ALL The Bible...and we need to walk around with understanding...I love ya'll so much and NeedYou and NeedHim really really bad...and will attempt to shed more understanding on the subject...as humbly and in as much love as is possible...It appears to me that the scriptures keep running together when they need to be looked at real slow and carefully...I read in slow motion alot of times because God has a real still quiet voice (except when He is trying to get my attention!!! Hahaha) and He is real simple...

All Scripture Given In The New King James Version

Ephesians 4:1-16

I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,

Even though apparently, we all don't believe the same way...Are we walking in our own calling-not jealous of anyone else-and in Love? In The Unity of the Spirit and in the Bond of Peace...

3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore He says:

“When He ascended on high,
He led captivity captive,
And gave gifts to men.”

He gave gifts to men...Whew...

9 (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)

11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, or the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Don't be tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine...

1 Cor. 14: 1-5

Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts,

Are we to desire spiritual gifts? The Bible says we are and that's what I did...(What if...for a second...What if...and what if this was given to me by The Holy Spirit because I'm praying in tongues right now...What if Jesus gave the gifts to us before we were even born...but we had to do the believing for them when we heard and learned of this...Wow...and then what about Faith...Oh my...I want what God has for me! All of what He has for me...and I have to Seek to Find...and if I don't find...I'm still content in all things...but I do not speak against any possibility of God...because With Him All Things Are Possible...and I'm the type that I'm not content until I have it all!!! Hahaha...anyway...continuing on In The Word...

but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

That's right...I can speak in tongues in my house, in my car, in the shower...or anywhere that I am led to...because I am speaking to God...and that God is up to something!!! Because He Is Up To Something!!! (and this is where the teaching comes from that the devil can not hear what is spoken in tongues) because The Word says: that in the spirit he (me and you...little "h" speaks mysteries...(See sometimes The Holy Spirit teaches us-there are words (understanding) between the lines of ink) but some get all (hocus pocus about it all) which is a lie...

3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. (self explanatory)

4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself,

Edification: improvement, instruction, or enlightenment, especially when morally or spiritually uplifting!!! (From the online Dictionary)

From Strongs: edifies From 1 Cor. 14:4 edifies (actually King James Version: edifieth: #3618: to be a house-builder, i.e. construct or (fig.) confirm--build, edify, builder, build up, be in a building, embolden.

Now it appears to me that God created us and that we are individuals and come together collectively as a whole...And it appears to me that God supplies "all our need" and He knows we need building up-individually-as well as collectively...

but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

I truly believe that God has our best interest at heart and desires that we build up and not tear down...that we have understanding above all...So even The Bible says: I wish you all spolke with tongues...But prophesying is better unless the one with tongues also interprets!!! So many times this is misquoted...Tongues get thrown out with the bath water when indeed that is not so!!! Understanding and experience is needed...and even in that we grow up from babies to maturity...Much Love to you, In Jesus Name'...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
