PROPHECY AND WORD OF KNOWLEDGE

How can someone distinguish prophecy from word of knowledge, or are they,the same?do you guys think it's biblical that every correct born again,has been giving the power to prophesy and to receive the word of knowledge from God,my bishop in the church where i use to worship,said"I quote,while we were praying,the word of knowledge came to me,and he began to say exactly what a particular sister was passing through,i know the sister very well,and the goodness is that he give us the direction on how to over come the situation,

No, prophecy is a rare gift and you always have to be wary of false prophets. However, interpreting and understanding prophecy (eschatology) is a gift given to a greater or much lesser extent to those who have the holy spirit, and even then, not all prophecy reveals itself straightaway.

Insight into other things, however, such as knowing or understanding a person's heart may be revealed by God to certain individuals, at certain times and under certain conditions according to God's wishes. You have to be really careful here though.

When a pastor prays for a sermon topic and the message when delivered is inspired and spoken effectively in the power of the Holy Spirit so as to change lives, it is likely a prophecy. Our pastor speaks about when he was saved, he had walked into a church for the first time and when the pastor preached he reavealed everything he (who is now our pastor) had done that week. The pastor who was preaching was unaware of all this but was simply inspired to preach a salvation message. Our pastor was saved that sunday.

Prophecy is speaking the mind of God. It is for the upbuilding of the body of Christ.. Exortation so as to encourage the congregation or admonish them, and inspired teaching are also often delivered by the pastor in the power of the Holy Spirit.. Some churches allow others to exercise these gifts as well. Prophecy normally has little to do with the future. The elders who guide the church also may be chosen because they are gifted in wisdom.

One time a woman went to the alter for prayer. As soon as another woman saw her there she had compassion on her and she instantly knew both what the woman was worried about (a word of knowledge), and she also received a word of wisdom as to what to do about the situation. She went to the alter and quietly delivered the message to the other woman. This is something she had never done before and to my knowlege has never done since. They were barely acquainted but it all proved to be true. The knowledge and wisdom are not learned.

This is far different from fortune telling or going to someone who claims to have such a gift of prophecy to have them speak over you. I wonder if some of that stuff is of God. I don't know. When in need of wisdom we should ask God and receive the answer in what ever way God chooses to deliver it. Too often we ask people and get bad advice.

These gifts are usually exercised in blind obedience, risking making a fool of one's self.

You are better able to discern if the thing you witnessed was of God. If they have a history in the occult I would be more doubtful. If the message was given in compassion, deeply caring about the woman, it more likely was genuine. By their fruit you shall know them.

God bless you all,the above replies are good to go with,but not yet satisfy,iam super fan of all this spiritual gifts,i wishes to have them,i believe only "Apostle"among the five fold ministries can have all the gifts of the spirit,"not too sure" i need a reply from a person that has any of this gifts,or has the experience on how those gifts operate or work,the reason why i was eager to know the defference between prophecy and word of knowledge,in the year 2010" a man of God walk up to a woman, and said to her by this time next year,you will dedicate your child in this church,exactly 10 months later she deliver a baby boy,after 4yrs of marriage without conceiving, was this a prophecy or word of knowledge?"was the pastor instructed by God to go and tell the woman,or he just said it by faith,
