This Thursday I will stand before my old high school bible club, stand before three hundred weeping teenagers, three hundred teenagers who are worried and confused, and I will be forced to go through the dreadful and unfortunate routine of explaining death to them. During my term in high school I had to endure six deaths...unfortunately this pattern has not stopped and they have lost another student tonight. I was scheduled to teach Thursday and had a message of hope, of relying upon Jesus, of casting your cares onto Him...and suddenly Jesus seems so far from these youth.

How can I look these kids in their eyes and tell them that Jesus loves them when they just have a friend die? How can I tell them that God has developed a plan for their lives when a life has been snuffed out amongst them? It's easy to say, "tell them anyway" but I've been there. I've lost my best friend in a car wreck. I have stood in their shoes six times before and can say with confidence that there is no easy answer.

I am sick to my stomach with grief and confused as what I am to say. I am sending a letter to them (the bible club sponsers) to express my feelings...and I guess I just want to share it with all of you as well:

I heard the news about Robert's death tonight. I am so sorry to hear about yet another death. The sad truth is that in times like this it seems like the only hope we have is that some day death will be but a distant memory while we enjoy eternal bliss. I hope you don't mind if I just send you some words of encouragement. I know that you, as a teacher, have to appear strong in these times even though basic human nature tells you to be weak.

Remember my affliction and my wandering, the wormwood and bitterness. Surely my soul remembers and is bowed down within me. This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord's loving kindness indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. - Lamentations 3:19-23

SJ, what you are saying holds true to most of us in our lives. What is laid on my heart for you, is the saddest line in the Bible.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John 11:35&version=50

John 11:35 (New King James Version)

35Jesus wept. 36Then the Jews said, "See how He loved him!"

Since our Lord wept at the death of a friend, how are not also to feel the same grief? Rather than letting his friends death consume Him unto bitterness, Jesus was PRO ACTIVE. We should be following his example and ministering to the family of the deceased one. Whilst we cannot raise our dead friends and family back to life, certainly can share in their grief and in their healing also.

Hope I've been some help.

With love

YSIC

Why not start with this?

May I add a Word from Holy Writ that will soothe and comfort those who believe?

Revelation 7:16/17

16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun strike upon them, nor any heat: 17 for the Lamb that is in the midst of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them unto fountains of waters of life: and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.

Hey There,

I thought what deut had to say sounded good. Starting off with how you have been through this before. Also, my prayer for you is that God will use you as his faithful servant and the Holy Spirit will fill the hearts of those young souls. You seem like a kind soul, I know God will work through you.

Hey SJ,

Where to start, eh? That's a tough one Brother.

I lost six of my dear friends too, all at once, in horrible circumstances, pleading for their lives. I don't know why it happens either bro, to good people, if you find an answer let me know.

What you wrote in the post is comforting though, so i'd suggest as deut did, start there.

God Bless you brother, I pray that whatever message you decide to give, will show the glory and grace of God.

Your Sister in Christ Jesus

Anne

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
