Trying to be someone I'm not??

Lately I've felt like I'm trying to be someone that I'm not and can never be. We as Christians are suppose to follow Christ and in doing so be transformed into the likeness of Him. I've tried and I've tried to be like my Lord and Savior, but lately I've felt like it's an no win situation. There's just so much of me that is not of Him.

And yet even with this feeling I know that He is every thing to me. All my dreams and hopes and faith lies within Him.

I've come across a few people in my life who after we've talked made statements that more or less said that my faith in God is stronge and that I'm grounded in my belief. After I'm alone I've found my self questioning that. If that was really true wouldn't these questions and feelings not exist in my walk with Him.

Have you ever felt this way?

Hi Jacqueline,

I think these are questions that pop into every Christians mind from time to time. And as I read your post I realised that it is the very fact that we recognise our faults and are not boastful nor ignorant of them, our constant striving to please Him, that endears us to Him.

Everyday I find myself falling short of the person I believe He wants me to be, but I love Him, so I'm gonna just keep picking myself up and keep on trying, afterall look what He did for us on the Cross!

Keep your eyes on the Father, and do not become disheartened sister, for you are not alone in your trials.

I feel like very often. I think it is normal. In fact I lived in a state of denial about who I really was and what I was like on the inside for a very long time--at least 10 years. Only in the last year or so I have I come to understand and appreciate the feelings you have expressed. It is like I look around me and everybody seems to have there life under control and they are "good" christian people and my experience is so different. I have learned to apply the simple truth that God looks on the inside and man looks on the outside. I only see what people want to project about themselves and not their heart. I can't compare myself to them, because there is a good chance that inside they are a mess just like me.

Jacqueline, that's a common feeling among Christians. Rejoice - that is the Spirit working in you. It does us good to feel that way sometimes too, believe it or not. It's very humbling to measure ourselves against God and His standards - and then realize exactly what He has done for us.

You're doing everything right. Keep up the good work.
