I am a Court TV junkie. One of the shows that is on regularly on that channel is "Psychic Detectives". My first tendency is usually to change the channel, since I don't want to involve myself in anything "psychic". I do believe that Scripture clearly says to have nothing to do with that stuff. And, don't know if I'll say this right, but I figured that if I watched it, I would start to doubt my conviction that it is evil - which is exactly what satan wants when he lures us in. Well, I did it. I got lured, I pitched my tent. I had the station on one night, and the next show was Psychic Detectives and the preview looked interesting and I bit hook, line and sinker. I was hoping that it would be silly and I would see it and say "oh please! Anyone can see that the pyschic did nothing a regular person couldn't have done." But it wasn't like that. The psychics (I've watched two shows) really did know things no one else knew, with police investigators backing up that the information could not have been known. And they drew maps and described things in detail that the investigators didn't even know - and solved the cases.

I do believe that there are pyschics. Someone is whispering in their ear - I just don't believe it's God. I believe it is of satan. My question is - why would God allow their abilities to be used for good, to make them appear credible and 'okay'?

The Bible states that Satan controls the world and a quick glance at any newspaper will show that God has given him the opportunity to do almost anything he wishes to do.The reason for this decision is tied into the purpose of life.Contrary to popular opinion,we're not here to raise a family,serve the government or become rich.Life is like one very long and difficult civil service exam to see if we are worthy to be selected to serve in the kingdom of God.Satan's role in the life exam is to test our faith and loyalty to God.His most common ways to do this are through deception,fear,lust and problem creation.Satan loves all aspects of the mass media,especially the internet,and he uses them constantly.People even become demon possessed over the internet through the prayers of satanists they have established chat room and instant messenger connections with.

Concerning Matthew 10:34 which is mentioned on the bottom of the message,Jesus is very properly called the PRINCE OF PEACE because He NEVER authorized war for any reason or cause.In fact His warning was "ALL WHO TAKE UP THE SWORD SHALL PERISH WITH THE SWORD."Since Jesus did not contradict himself,Mat.10:34 needs to be interpreted as just another statement from Jesus that His controversial teachings delivered through the cutting and penetrating sword of truth and justice ,would create disagreements among people..This is confirmed in verse 35 when He goes on to state that He will turn children against their parents,not physically trying to attack them of course, but mentally and spiritually once the children accept His teachings that are rejected by the parents.

I'm curious about psychics too. Have you ever watched "Crossing Over" with John Edwards?

He is another one who seems very credible. and if you everread about his background, this ability came to him when he was young. This kind of ties in to my other post about kids who seem to have psychic abilities or memories of things that happened before they were born.

There are others too like in the show you were talking about, who regularily help police and rescue workers in various situations. I can't believe all their information comes from evil sources. Don't Godly angels come into play sometimes too?

I have a Christian freind, whose neice has his ability. Not sure of her age, but she is younger than 10, I know that. Along with seeing "people" that no-one else can, she has talked of a "past life" and given details of what happened to her then. Her parents have looked into it, and confirmed the details of what she has told them.

I don't know what to think of it. She is a very normal little girl, and just comments things like, "Oh, there goes so-and-so walking by" and things of that nature. She says they are all over, everywhere people go, they are just not seen by most. And she indicates they DO know that she can see them.

Steve, no I've never watched John Edwards or any other psychic before. I do not believe they are "good", but were evil disguised as 'good', so never tuned into their shows, or shows about them. I also am very careful not to open any doors in my life for demons to enter - another reason why I usually change the channel when "Psychic detectives" comes on.

I saw an expose on television quite some time ago (I haven't had television since last July) that exposed John Edwards, and others, as frauds.

I don't doubt that some people have these so-called psychic abilities, but they aren't getting that ability from God. Satan doesn't have an original idea in his head. Everything he does/has/produces is a counterfeit/perversion of what God does/has/produces. Look at it as Satan's way of perverting a word of knowledge from God, if you will. These people claim they get their ability from God, like Sylvia Brown. They say they "use their ability for good." But God does not operate that way. This is the sweet seduction of the devil to lure people into participating. Once they do, the devil has a legal right to attack that person's life.

The Bible is clear that entertaining these things... the occult, horoscopes, etc., is opening a door, or crack, that Satan can use to enter your life and attack. These things should not be dabbled in for entertainment's sake, even if you don't really believe they're real. That is the beginning of the opening of that door.

It's good to know the devil's ways, but it's a dangerous line to be walking for the sake of curiosity or plain interest. One must be well-armoured with the Word and use wisdom.

The whole point of a counterfeit is to pass as the real thing. We have to remember that if something isn't of God, it's evil. Period. Of course it won't appear evil...satan is a master of disguise. I believe he rarely tempts us or persuades us with things that are blatantly obvious. Instead he peaks our interest, he intrigues us, he woos us with things that are entertaining and seemingly "good". Our enemy is sly....we should be on the alert so that we won't be deceived. I think it's very dangerous to under-estimate him.
