from Faith Street:

"Lent is that time of year when Catholics smear ash on their foreheads and give up eating chocolate or checking Facebook or watching television, right? That may be the basic view from the outside, but for those who observe it, the season of Lent is a period of penitence that prepares the heart for the celebration of Easter — Christ’s resurrection.

"And it’s not the exclusive domain of Catholics. This season of self-examination and self-denial has found favor with Mainline Protestant and evangelical churches, too...."

If one is led of the Spirit to do such things then it is wonderful for God has a purpose in all things.

Lent is fine for those who choose to observe it but it is not for everyone.

I can understand how fasting is not for the physically infirm, the aged, etc., but penitence as well?

However does that not become a question of " us paying for wrongs we committed"? And making of no/ less effect the act of sacrifice Jesus completed I our stead on the cross? Do we not then say we must do something ourselves, instead of resting in the assurance of what Jesus did on our behalf?

Penitence: the state or condition of regretting sins or offenses; repentance.

And repentance is not atonement.

It along with the other unbiblical((opposed to the Bible)) things associated with it are not for those seeking Christ once they find Him.  He delivers all who seek Him from all sin, sometimes oh so gradually.
