This morning my pastor said that until the flood, there had never been rain? Is this a commonly accepted theory? Is there anything to back it up or did he interpret "things never before seen" as meaning rain when I always interpreted that as meaning Flood?

Hello, I haven't done much research on this, but I believe your Pastor is correct.

Most likey he got his information from Genesis 2:6 "But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground."

It's believed that this is the only way the earth was watered before the flood.

I hope this helps somewhat.

Gen 2:5 And every shrub of the field was not yet on the earth, and every plant of the field had not yet sprung up; for Jehovah God had not sent rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground.

Gen 2:6 And mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.

Now, pardon the bluntness, but if even the animals could tell what went where, then human beings are without excuse. Even the animals knew to mate with the OPPOSITE sex.

Im not sure the pastor can back up his ideas with the text....

Im not really sure we can say that there was no rain,,,,to make such a blanket statement we might need to see that more clearly pointed out,,,

Perhaps a better way to look at the text is to say we 'dont read" of rain before the flood,,,,this way we have not shut the door at all the chance thaty there was tons of rain all the time,,,
