Gen 41:41-42: "Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph's hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen, and put a gold chain

around his neck.

Acts 2:36: "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made Him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you have crucified.

~~~~~
Joseph also typified Christ as the One enthroned with authority. On the same day Joseph was released from the dungeon, he was enthroned to be the actual ruler over the whole land of Egypt. In like manner, after Christ was resurrected, He was enthroned with authority. On the day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter seemed to be saying to the Israelites who had rejected the Lord, "The One you rejected,
put on the cross, and killed, God has raised up from the dead. Not only so, God has made Him the Lord of all." This refers to Christ's enthronement. What a great matter this is!
When Christ was enthroned, He received glory (Heb. 2:9). Joseph also typifies Christ in this regard, for when he was released from the dungeon, he received glory. Joseph's opposers not only sold him and despised him, but cast him into
a dungeon. Those who put him there did so with the intention that he would be severely distressed. But God lifted him up and not only placed him on the throne, but also gave him glory. His being clothed with fine linen was in contrast with
his being stripped by his brothers of his coat of many colors. When people saw him clothed with such beautiful garments and sitting in Pharaoh's chariot, they must have realized that here was a man in glory.
ooohhhhh! I love the story of Joseph, Ovedya! There are so many similarities of Christ throughout his entire life! One is this:
When the brothers were told that they were to leave Benjamin with Joseph, and return home to their father without him, they refused. Judah said (paraphrased) "How can we do this thing that will kill our father? Take me in the place of Benjamin."
These same brothers that threw Joseph, their father's favorite, in a well and then sold him into slavery, refused to give up their youngest brother, who was also their father's favorite. They repented from their sin, and turned from it. And, Judah offered himself in place of Benjamin. (Jhn 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. )
Immediately, upon their repentance, Joseph began to cry, and ordered all the Egyptians to leave. He cried so violently that he was heard even in the pharaoh's rooms. Joseph then revealed himself to his brothers. And... Gen 45:1b says..
And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. ;) It happens one on one. :emot-hug:
Imagine, as a picture of Christ, Joseph showing such emotion at the conversion of his brothers. I think that this is a truly amazing and wonderful look behind the scenes into our Lord's world.
wow.
Amen Trav,
Here is another interesting parallel between Jesus and Joseph. Should you have a chance to read it, let me know what you think.
Here is the site
I found it to be an intresting parallel and a pretty good read.
God bless
Interesting that it was Judah who offered to take Benjamin's place.
Here are a few other parallels from the link I posted above that are really neat:
The first seven
1. Joseph was despised by his own brothers. (Gen.37: 4)
1. Jesus was despised by his own brothers, the Jew. (John 1:11)
Joseph was despised by his brothers because they believed that their father loved Joseph more than he loved them. They were jealous of him and the dreams that God had given him. If they were to believe his dreams, they would also have to believe that someday Joseph would rule over them. They despised him for this. When Jesus came to Israel, Israel rejected him over the same basic reasoning. He declared to them that he was the Messiah. The scriptures said that the messiah would rule over them.
Mt:2:6: And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
In John 1:11 the scripture says that he came unto his own and his own received him not. The Jews rejected Jesus because they did not want him to rule over them. The idea was absurd to them. Who did he think he was? see?
2. Joseph was sold for pieces of silver. (Gen. 37: 28)
2. Jesus was sold for pieces of silver. (Matt. 26:15)
Someone who should have cared for him, his own brother, sold Joseph for 20 pieces of silver. His own disciple that he loved very much, sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. In both cases the money they received was the price of a slave in their day.
3. Judah was responsible. (Gen. 37:27)
3. Judas (New Testament name for Judah) was responsible. (Matt.26: 14-15)
Judah was the one who sold Joseph for 20 pieces of silver. It was Judas who sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. The remarkable thing about this is that Judas is the New Testament name for Judah. The name is one and the same. In the Old Testament it is pronounced Judah, in the New it is pronounced Judas.
4.His own wanted to kill him. (Gen. 37:17-20)
4. His own wanted to kill him (John 7:1& 11:53)
Gen. 37:17-20; 17.And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.18. And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. 19. And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. 20. Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
John 7:1 & 11:53; 1. After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. 53. Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
5. Joseph was turned over to the Gentiles (Gen. 37:27)
5. Jesus was turned over to the Gentiles (Mark 15:1)
Joseph was sold to the Ishmeelites who sold him into Egypt. His brothers had delivered him into the hands of the Gentiles. Jesus was betrayed and sold by Judas to the Jewish leaders who delivered him into the hands of the Romans who were Gentiles.
6. Joseph was placed under the dominion of an officer in the strongest army in the world (Potiphar of Egypt, Gen. 37:36)
6. Jesus was placed under the dominion of an officer in the strongest army in the world (Pilate of Rome, Mark 15:1)
They were both put into the hands of an officer in the strongest army in the world during their time. Egypt was the strongest at the time of Joseph. Rome was the strongest at the time of Christ. Pothiphar was an officer in the Egyptian Army; Pilate was an officer in the Roman Army.
7. Potiphar sentenced Joseph to the KING'S PRISON (A special prison for people who sinned against the king.)(Gen. 39:20).
7. Pilate sentenced Jesus to death; in death He went to HELL (a special prison for people who sin against the king, Mark 15:15; Acts 2:29-32)
Joseph was falsely accused and sentenced to prison. Jesus was also falsely accused and sentenced to prison. These prisons were not ordinary prisons; they were for special offenders. Joseph was in the king's prison in Egypt. Pilate sentenced Jesus to God's prison for those who offend him. Hell.
Here's another:
The Ring Being a Seal
Gen 41:42 And Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph's hand...
Acts 2:33 Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father....
Eph 1:13 ...in Him also believing, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of the promise.
~~~~

When Joseph was released from the dungeon and uplifted to the throne, he received gifts. Christ also has received gifts. In his glorification Joseph was given three things: a golden ring, some garments, and a golden chain. The ancient Egyptians used their ring as a seal. Whatever they sealed with their ring was something important to them. Thus, the ring, the seal, received by Joseph typifies the Holy Spirit received by Christ. At the time of Christ's ascension and ethronement, Christ received of the Father the Holy Spirit that He might use Him as a seal to put on all His believers. Whenever anyone calls on Him, He puts this seal upon him.

Before we were saved, we were among the common people. But on the day we received the Lord Jesus, we were sealed. The seal of our salvation is the Holy Spirit of God. From that time onward, we have had a seal upon us. As a saved one, you have a living seal on you. Even if you were to go to a gambling casino in Las Vegas, you would still have this seal upon you, and it would make you feel that, because you belong to Jesus, you should not stay in such a place. As our Joseph, Christ has received the seal from the Father, and with it He has sealed us. Now this seal is within us and upon us.

WOW!!

Praise the Lord, Ovedya. This is a great study, I really like this:

Christ received of the Father the Holy Spirit that He might use Him as a seal to put on all His believers. Whenever anyone calls on Him, He puts this seal upon him.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
